The update also refines search and adds several smaller workflow changes. Apple cautions that availability can vary by iPad model and region.
Which iPadOS 27 changes matter most?
The most useful additions depend on how you use your iPad: parents may value scheduled app access, people who move files may notice the transfer changes, and anyone bothered by Liquid Glass’s appearance can adjust it. Apple’s update notes describe these features but do not provide independent testing or numerical performance results.

What’s new for parents and Screen Time?
Apple says parents can schedule which apps children may access at different times, with schedules that distinguish weekdays from weekends. Redesigned Screen Time settings also provide at-a-glance information about children’s device use and controls for adjusting access.

How can you change Liquid Glass’s appearance?
iPadOS 27 adds a slider in Settings that lets you choose an appearance ranging from ultra-clear to fully tinted. Apple also says it has refined readability. The slider offers a choice rather than identifying one setting as best for everyone; the feature description does not establish a battery effect or a guaranteed accessibility benefit.
Are app launches and file transfers faster?
Apple lists faster app launches, AirDrop transfers, and transfers between an iPad and an external drive among iPadOS 27’s performance changes. It does not publish a benchmark or timing comparison in the update description, so treat “faster” as Apple’s stated improvement, not a guaranteed speed increase on every iPad. Apple’s iPadOS 27 update notes describe the changes.

The external-drive improvement may matter if you regularly move files off your iPad. It does not require a particular SSD, and no specific drive is established as compatible here; check the connection type and compatibility with your iPad before buying an accessory.
What has changed in search and everyday apps?
Apple says search results are more relevant and comprehensive in Spotlight, Photos, and Mail. The update notes do not quantify search accuracy or speed, so the change is best understood as a stated refinement rather than a measured improvement.

Other small changes include better Messages syncing across devices, the ability to resize iPhone apps while they are running on iPad, app names shown in the status bar, and enhancements to iCloud Shared Albums. These are targeted conveniences rather than a single major new capability.
What about accessibility and other Apple platform features?
Apple’s broader iPadOS 27 feature overview describes features including richer VoiceOver image descriptions and synchronized video subtitles that can translate existing captions. It also lists Calendar event editing from a natural-language description, enhanced Maps Flyover, AirPods Custom EQ, and Photos slideshows. Because this overview covers Apple operating systems broadly, check its iPad-specific context before assuming every item applies to iPad.

What’s new for IT administrators?
For managed deployments, Apple describes a consolidated configuration for privacy-consent prompts, remote AppleCare log collection on supervised devices, new network configurations in declarative device management, and changes to software-update management. These are administrator-facing tools, not core reasons most individual iPad owners would upgrade. Details are in Apple’s enterprise update notes.
Will these features work on your iPad?
Not necessarily. Apple warns that some iPadOS 27 features may not be available on every iPad model or in every region. Check Apple’s current feature-availability information for your device and location before relying on a particular feature.
