The best Cloudflare alternative depends on which services you need to replace. For an AWS-based site, start by evaluating Amazon CloudFront; for Azure or Google Cloud, consider the matching cloud delivery and security services. Fastly suits teams seeking a programmable edge, while Akamai and Imperva are enterprise-oriented options, Bunny is worth assessing for CDN delivery, and Sucuri is a narrower fit for WordPress security. None should be assumed to replace every Cloudflare service without checking the details.
Cloudflare can provide much more than content delivery: a site may rely on it for authoritative DNS, TLS, DDoS mitigation, a web application firewall (WAF), bot controls, rate limiting, load balancing, edge code, access policies, or tunnels. Replacing only one of those services is different from moving the whole stack. A useful shortlist begins with an inventory of what your site actually uses, then checks whether each candidate covers those functions, how it is operated, and how it is billed.

This is a guide to choosing what to evaluate, not a universal speed ranking. The available comparisons do not establish a general performance winner, and a specific recommendation depends on your cloud environment, traffic regions, security needs, support expectations, operating capacity, and budget.
What should you compare before choosing a Cloudflare alternative?
Compare the functions you need and the work required to operate them—not just whether a vendor calls its service a CDN or security platform. Products with overlapping labels can differ in DNS scope, protection features, deployment model, and how much configuration or support your team must provide.

List the services in use
For each domain or application, record whether Cloudflare is handling any of the following:
- Authoritative DNS: the DNS zone and records that direct visitors and services to the right destinations.
- Reverse-proxy CDN: the layer that receives web requests, serves eligible cached content, and forwards other requests to your origin.
- TLS: certificates and encryption between visitors, the edge, and the origin. Identify whether origin connections are encrypted and which certificates or settings are involved.
- Security controls: DDoS mitigation, WAF rules and exceptions, bot management, and rate limits.
- Traffic management: load balancing, health checks, or routing behavior used to direct requests among origins.
- Edge and access functions: Workers or other edge code, Zero Trust access policies, and tunnels.
- Operations: logs, analytics, client-IP headers, cache rules, and purge behavior that applications or staff depend on.
A service that appears secondary can be operationally important. For example, an application may use a client-IP header for security decisions, or a deployment process may assume that a cache purge takes effect in a particular way. Capture these dependencies before selecting a replacement.

Evaluate the operating model as well as features
Ask who will configure and maintain the replacement, how much control the team needs, and what kind of support is required. A cloud-aligned service may fit teams already operating in that provider’s environment; a programmable edge may be attractive when developers need to shape request behavior. Enterprise delivery and security options may warrant a scoped sales discussion. The right fit is the one that meets the required coverage without creating an operating burden the team cannot sustain.
Compare the complete arrangement, including any separate providers needed for DNS, security, or delivery. A bundled plan can simplify procurement, but its headline price does not prove that it includes every feature your current setup uses.
Which Cloudflare alternative fits each kind of workload?
Use these options as starting points for evaluation, not as one-for-one replacements. The comparison below reflects the use cases identified in available vendor comparisons; it does not establish equivalent feature coverage or independent performance results.
| Option | Good starting point | Verify before committing |
|---|---|---|
| Amazon CloudFront | AWS-native website or application | DNS, WAF, DDoS protection, edge compute, logging, origin protection, and whether its distribution model suits your operations |
| Fastly | Developer-led CDN or programmable edge evaluation | Security services and DNS coverage, package and support scope, and usage charges |
| Akamai | Enterprise delivery, security, traffic engineering, or managed-support needs | Workload-specific scope, included services, support, and quotation |
| Imperva | Security-first evaluation of WAF/WAAP and application or API protection | Whether CDN delivery and authoritative DNS need separate providers |
| Azure Front Door | Azure-centric HTTP delivery, routing, and failover | The deployment’s exact WAF, bot, DDoS, DNS, and billing arrangements |
| Google Cloud CDN with Cloud Armor | Google Cloud delivery paired with a security service | The combined CDN and security design, plus DNS and control-plane requirements |
| Bunny.net | CDN delivery where published usage-based regional pricing is relevant | Your regional traffic mix, security requirements, DNS scope, and support needs |
| Sucuri | Focused managed website security for WordPress | Whether you also need edge compute, broad DNS coverage, or traffic engineering |
CloudFront for AWS environments
CloudFront is a natural candidate to assess when your site or application already runs on AWS. The key question is whether the particular CloudFront arrangement you plan to use covers the Cloudflare jobs in your inventory. Do not assume that choosing an AWS delivery service also settles authoritative DNS, WAF configuration, DDoS requirements, edge logic, logging, or origin protection.

AWS’s CloudFront FAQ, as surfaced on October 25, 2026, listed plans at $0, $15, $200, and $1,000 per month. Those are page-listed plan prices, not a promise of current or complete cost; verify the current AWS terms, included capabilities, and charges that apply to your deployment before comparing totals.
Fastly for a programmable edge evaluation
Fastly is presented as a developer-oriented, programmable edge option. It belongs on a shortlist when the team wants to evaluate that operating model, but its presence on a shortlist does not answer whether it will replace your DNS and security services. Check the package, support scope, and usage basis alongside the exact security functions you require.
Fastly’s pricing page, as surfaced on October 25, 2026, listed Basic at $1,500 per month and Starter at $6,000 per month. Confirm current prices and package scope directly with Fastly; do not treat those figures as directly comparable to a usage-priced CDN or a different vendor’s bundle.
Akamai and Imperva for enterprise or security-led evaluations
Akamai is positioned toward enterprise-scale delivery, security, traffic engineering, and managed support. For an enterprise workload, ask for a scope tied to your traffic patterns and required services rather than comparing an unqualified quote with a simple CDN rate.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteImperva is a security-first option to assess for WAF/WAAP and application or API protection. If delivery and authoritative DNS remain necessary, establish whether those will be supplied by Imperva or another provider. That service boundary matters: a strong fit for one security function is not automatically a complete edge-platform replacement.
Azure Front Door and Google Cloud CDN with Cloud Armor
Azure Front Door is a sensible starting point for an Azure-centric deployment that needs HTTP delivery, routing, or failover. The precise WAF, bot, DDoS, DNS, and billing arrangement still needs to be checked for the design you will deploy.

For Google Cloud, evaluate Cloud CDN together with Cloud Armor rather than treating either name alone as a complete replacement. Model the delivery and security components together, then verify DNS and control-plane requirements separately. In both cases, integration with a cloud environment is a reason to investigate—not evidence that all Cloudflare features have a direct equivalent.
Bunny.net for CDN delivery
Bunny is a CDN candidate with published regional bandwidth rates. Its official pricing page, accessed October 25, 2026, stated a $1 monthly minimum and 119 points of presence (PoPs) for its Standard network. Use the regional rate schedule and your own traffic distribution to estimate cost; a minimum charge by itself does not predict the bill for a particular workload.
The same page attributes comparative price and performance figures to third-party data from March 2025. Those dated figures are not current independent benchmarks, so they should not be used to declare Bunny faster or cheaper for your traffic today. Separately check what security, DNS, and support coverage your architecture would require.
Sucuri for WordPress security
Sucuri is a focused managed website-security option for WordPress, not a presumed replacement for the full range of CDN, DNS, edge compute, and traffic-engineering services. It may fit an evaluation centered on WordPress security; map any remaining Cloudflare dependencies to other services if you need to move more than that narrow function.
How do you choose between a bundled plan and separate services?
First decide whether you are replacing the whole stack or only a specific function. If you need several functions, compare the cost and operational complexity of a bundle against a combination of specialist services. Count only capabilities that are actually included in the proposed plan and deployment.
Build a coverage matrix
For every requirement in your inventory, mark the candidate as covered, covered only with a different plan or configuration, supplied by another provider, or not yet confirmed. Do not treat “not yet confirmed” as coverage. A candidate can still be viable if another provider handles a missing function, but the ownership, configuration, and support boundaries should be explicit.

Pay particular attention to functions that cross provider boundaries. If one service handles DNS, another handles security, and a third delivers cached content, identify where policies are configured, which team owns incidents, and what happens when one component changes. This is a practical trade-off, not an automatic reason to prefer a bundle.
Compare total cost on the same basis
Normalize quotes and plans around the same traffic assumptions, required features, and support expectations. Usage-based, plan-based, and quote-led billing are different models; one cannot be compared fairly with another by looking only at a single monthly figure. Include the separate services needed to fill coverage gaps, and confirm how costs vary with the traffic regions relevant to your site.
Public prices are especially easy to misread. Bunny’s regional rates and stated minimum are not equivalent to a plan with a fixed monthly price. AWS’s page-listed CloudFront plans and Fastly’s surfaced package prices need current scope confirmation. For Akamai and other sales-led enterprise evaluations, request a workload-specific quotation rather than inferring a price from a generic comparison.
Make a shortlist around your constraints
- Start with the cloud you already operate: assess the matching delivery option, while separately validating all other required services.
- Start with security requirements: evaluate security-led candidates, then determine how DNS and delivery will be provided.
- Start with developer control: assess a programmable edge and test whether its packages and service boundaries match your needs.
- Start with CDN cost: model your regional traffic against published rates, then add the cost of security, DNS, and support that the CDN rate does not establish.
- Start with WordPress protection: evaluate a focused security service only if the remaining platform functions are handled elsewhere or are not required.
How do you migrate away from Cloudflare without missing a dependency?
Begin with an inventory and a staged validation plan, not a nameserver change. A DNS switch can redirect requests, but it does not by itself migrate TLS behavior, caching, security rules, origin protections, application headers, or edge code. The 2026 iTechGuides comparison highlights these migration concerns; the checklist below turns them into work items to assign and verify.
Free tools Windows power users keep installed
One-click scans. No signup required.
- Document DNS: export or record every zone and record, including which hostnames are proxied and which are DNS-only. Note the intended destination and owner for each record.
- Record TLS behavior: document certificates, encryption between the edge and origin, renewal responsibilities, and any origin certificate or trust assumptions. Confirm how the replacement will serve each hostname.
- Map cache behavior: capture cache rules, exclusions, purge procedures, and routes where content must not be cached. Test representative pages and assets against the intended behavior.
- Translate security controls: inventory WAF rules, exceptions, rate limits, bot controls, and the DDoS protection scope. Re-create or redesign the necessary policies and test expected allowed and blocked cases.
- Protect the origin: check whether the origin IP is exposed, what access controls restrict origin traffic, and how those controls will work after the proxy changes. Do not assume the new provider automatically inherits the old origin protections.
- Check application networking: identify client-IP headers used by applications, logs, or security systems. Verify the replacement’s relevant header behavior and update trusted-proxy settings as needed.
- Rebuild traffic management: document load-balancing policies and health checks, if used, and decide which service will own them after migration.
- Move edge and access dependencies: list Workers or other edge functions, tunnels, and access policies. For each, decide whether to reimplement, move to a different service, or retire it.
- Validate observability: confirm which logs and analytics are needed, who can access them, and whether operational workflows still work after the change.
- Test before switching: choose representative routes and security cases, verify the replacement setup, and record what success looks like for each test.
- Define rollback criteria: agree on the symptoms that would trigger a rollback, who makes that call, and how to restore the previous routing configuration. Keep the old configuration available until the new path is validated.
What should the test plan cover?
Test more than the homepage. Include representative application routes, static assets, uncached or personalized pages, certificate behavior, origin reachability, and the security cases that matter to your site. Confirm that logs and client-IP information reach the systems that depend on them. For a site with multiple hostnames or regions, include examples from each relevant path rather than assuming one successful request proves the whole deployment.
Where a requirement cannot be verified before the change, treat it as an unresolved migration risk. Assign an owner and a validation method instead of letting a successful DNS resolution stand in for a complete acceptance test.
Best Value
Is there a fastest Cloudflare alternative?
No general fastest option is established by the available comparisons. A numeric cross-provider benchmark surfaced without enough verified methodology to support a broad winner, and a provider’s own comparative figures are not a substitute for a current test of your workload.
If latency or throughput drives the decision, evaluate the providers against the same representative routes, traffic mix, regions, cache state, and security configuration you expect in production. Keep the test conditions and date with the results; otherwise, apparent differences may not predict how your site will perform after migration.
What is the best shortlist for your situation?
Use the shortlist as a workload decision, not a brand ranking. These starting directions are supported by the cited comparisons, but the final choice depends on coverage, commercial scope, and your ability to operate the result.
- AWS-centric: assess CloudFront, then verify DNS, security, edge, logging, and origin requirements independently.
- Azure-centric: assess Azure Front Door and validate the deployment’s exact protections and DNS arrangement.
- Google Cloud-centric: evaluate Cloud CDN with Cloud Armor and confirm DNS and operational requirements.
- Developer-led programmable edge: assess Fastly, checking package, support, usage, DNS, and security scope.
- Enterprise delivery or managed security: request workload-specific scope from Akamai; consider Imperva when application or API security is the central need.
- CDN pricing-led: model Bunny’s regional rates against your traffic and separately account for the other services you need.
- WordPress security-led: assess Sucuri as a focused service, without assuming broad platform coverage.
Before selecting any candidate, require a service-by-service coverage map, a cost estimate on your expected usage, a migration owner for every dependency, and a test and rollback plan. Those checks are more useful than a generic “best” label when the alternatives solve different parts of the problem.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I move only my DNS away from Cloudflare and keep the CDN?
Yes, a partial change can be an option if the services and DNS arrangement you keep support it. Check how the retained proxy or CDN expects DNS to be configured, and verify the intended record behavior with both providers before changing delegation.
Will my Cloudflare settings transfer automatically to another provider?
Do not assume that policies, cache behavior, or edge code will transfer as working configuration. Treat the move as a service redesign: record what each setting does, then recreate and test the required behavior in the replacement environment.
How can I compare CDN performance for my own site?
Use a controlled test with routes and regions that reflect your actual audience, and compare the same cache and security conditions. Record the test date and setup so the result is interpretable rather than relying on an unqualified vendor comparison.
Should I move DNS and CDN at the same time?
That depends on the architecture and the dependencies identified in your inventory. Plan the order around how the new provider expects traffic to reach its edge and how you can validate or reverse each change; do not combine changes merely to make the migration shorter.
