For most gaming PCs, start with Ubisoft’s tier that matches your resolution and graphics card, then keep the listed upscaler and ray-tracing mode together. The practical starting points are 1080p/60 on Medium with Standard ray tracing and Balanced upscaling, 1440p/60 on High with Standard ray tracing and Balanced upscaling, or 4K/60 on Ultra with Extended ray tracing and Quality upscaling. A lower-tier PC should use 1080p/30 on Low. These are Ubisoft’s published targets for complete system configurations, not independent benchmarks or guarantees for an individual GPU. 1080p at 30 FPS: Low
Ubisoft’s entry tier targets 1,920×1,080 at 30 FPS on the Low preset, Standard ray tracing and Balanced upscaling. Named GPU examples are the GeForce GTX 1660 6GB, Radeon RX 5500 XT 8GB and Arc A580 8GB. The named processor examples are an Intel Core i7-8700K or AMD Ryzen 5 3600.
This is the sensible starting point for a system that meets the minimum class but cannot maintain 60 FPS. Keep the 30 FPS limit explicit in the game menu so the presentation is consistent, then raise individual settings only if frame time remains stable in the heavier locations you play.

For 1,920×1,080 at 60 FPS, Ubisoft specifies Medium graphics, Standard ray tracing and Balanced upscaling. The listed graphics cards are the GeForce RTX 3060 12GB, Radeon RX 6600 XT 8GB and Arc B580 12GB, with a Core i5-10600K or Ryzen 5 3600 as named CPU examples.
This is the most useful general-purpose profile for a current 1080p desktop. It leaves enough headroom for a 60 FPS cap without asking a midrange card to render the game at native resolution with the heaviest effects enabled.
1440p at 60 FPS: High
Ubisoft’s 2,560×1,440 target uses High graphics, Standard ray tracing and Balanced upscaling at 60 FPS. Its named GPUs are the GeForce RTX 3080 10GB and Radeon RX 6800 XT 16GB, paired with a Core i5-11600K or Ryzen 5 5600X in the published examples.
Start with High rather than jumping straight to Ultra. If your monitor is 1440p but your hardware is closer to the 1080p/60 tier, retain Medium and Balanced upscaling; resolution and the GPU’s available memory matter as much as the preset label.

4K at 60 FPS: Ultra
The 3,840×2,160 target is the demanding configuration: Ultra graphics, Extended ray tracing and Quality upscaling. Ubisoft names the GeForce RTX 4090 24GB and Radeon RX 7900 XTX 24GB, with a Core i7-12700K or Ryzen 7 5700X3D as CPU examples.
Do not treat Ultra as a default recommendation for a midrange 4K PC. Quality upscaling is part of this target, so changing it to Balanced changes the image-and-performance trade-off from the specification Ubisoft published.
How do I configure the settings in the game?
Open the game’s graphics options and set the controls in this order. The menu exposes display resolution, an FPS limit or target, an upscaler, frame generation and individual graphics controls.
- Choose native display resolution. Select the resolution your monitor is designed to show: 1,920×1,080, 2,560×1,440 or 3,840×2,160. Avoid lowering resolution before trying the game’s upscaler, because that makes it harder to judge whether the reconstruction is the cause of softness.
- Select the closest preset. Begin with Low, Medium, High or Ultra according to the matching Ubisoft tier. This gives every unexamined option a coherent starting value.
- Set ray tracing to the tier value. Use Standard for the 1080p and 1440p targets. Use Extended only for the published 4K Ultra configuration. If smoothness is the priority, the separate performance profile below uses a lower-cost ray-tracing choice instead.
- Choose the upscaler quality. Use Balanced for the 1080p and 1440p targets and Quality for the 4K Ultra target. Select only a mode the installed game exposes for your hardware; the available launch information does not provide a complete GPU-by-GPU compatibility matrix.
- Set a sustainable frame-rate limit. Try 60 FPS when your PC can hold it, or 30 FPS for the Low tier. A cap is a pacing choice, not a guarantee that every scene will meet it.
- Decide on frame generation. Compare it on and off after the base image is stable. Displayed frames can rise while input response still feels different, and no universal latency result has been established for every GPU.
- Check two demanding scenes. Sail in open water and walk through a populated area. Watch for inconsistent frame delivery, shimmering, ghosting or distracting softness, then change only a small group of settings before checking again.
What is a good balanced 1080p profile?
On hardware around Ubisoft’s 1080p/60 tier, use Medium, Standard ray tracing, Balanced upscaling and a 60 FPS cap at the monitor’s native 1,920×1,080 resolution. This profile follows the publisher’s own combination rather than replacing it with a generic “everything low” preset.

If the game drops below the cap, first check that the processor, memory and SSD requirements are satisfied. Then reduce the preset or the most expensive effects in groups, checking both clarity and frame pacing after each change. There is no reliable per-toggle FPS dataset for version 1.0.8, so avoid promises such as “this option gives exactly 10 FPS.”
Which settings should I lower for maximum FPS?
A July 2026 settings guide gives a performance-first example. It is a writer’s profile, not an official optimized preset and not a measured ranking of individual options.

- Turn motion blur off if you prefer a clearer camera image.
- Reduce or disable the guide’s listed ray-tracing option and set ray-tracing quality low.
- Set post effects, particles, water, screen-space effects, lighting, shadows, clouds, fog and scatter density to Low.
- Leave character quality, textures, loading distance, geometry, micropolygon and terrain settings at Medium where the guide recommends it.
The guide names a ray-tracing Off setting, while Ubisoft’s hardware targets specify Standard or Extended ray tracing. Those are different goals: the custom profile trades some lighting effects for consistency, whereas the published tiers describe the visual configuration attached to each resolution target.
How should I tune for image quality?
Start with High at 1440p on hardware close to Ubisoft’s High tier. For 4K, start with Ultra, Quality upscaling and Extended ray tracing only when your CPU and GPU are in the flagship class listed by Ubisoft.

Should I use frame generation and upscaling?
Both features are supported on PC, but support alone does not identify the best setting for every graphics card. Use the upscaler shown in your installed game, compare Balanced and Quality at the same resolution, and judge reconstructed detail together with frame pacing.
Frame generation can increase the number reported on screen without changing the underlying simulation or input path in the same way as a genuinely rendered frame. Check camera response, aiming and steering as well as the displayed FPS. Ubisoft’s launch information does not provide a complete GPU-by-GPU feature table or input-latency measurements, so keep the recommendation conditional.
How much ray tracing should I enable?
Use Standard ray tracing for Ubisoft’s 1080p/30, 1080p/60 and 1440p/60 targets. Extended ray tracing is reserved for the published 4K/60 Ultra specification. The separate performance-first guide recommends reducing or disabling its ray-tracing option when smoothness matters more than the additional lighting detail.

Ray tracing is therefore a visual-versus-consistency decision. If a busy scene misses your cap, reduce ray tracing before assuming that texture quality is the problem; if reflections and lighting are central to your preference and the frame rate is already stable, retain the tier’s setting.
What PC hardware and storage does the game require?
Ubisoft’s US store specifies Windows 10 64-bit or Windows 11, 16GB of dual-channel RAM and 65GB on an SSD with a DRAM cache. An earlier detailed Ubisoft PC-specifications article states Windows 11, so the two Ubisoft pages do not agree on Windows 10 support. Check the current store listing and your game launcher before treating either statement as definitive for your installation.
The 16GB figure is dual-channel memory, not simply any two sticks adding to 16GB. If your system has less memory or is running in single-channel mode, correct that platform limitation before blaming a graphics toggle for hitching. Likewise, the storage requirement names an SSD with a DRAM cache; a GPU upgrade alone cannot compensate for missing CPU, memory or storage requirements.
The US store also names a Ubisoft account and Ubisoft Connect. Ubisoft says the PC version needs one online connection for installation and can then be played offline. Ubisoft, Epic Games Store and Steam are the listed PC storefronts.
How do I troubleshoot stutter and inconsistent frame times?
- Verify the baseline. Confirm the CPU and GPU are near the appropriate tier, 16GB dual-channel RAM is installed and the game is on the specified SSD class.
- Check the build. Install Title Update 1.0.8 if it is available for your platform. Ubisoft’s notes say it “Improved stability,” but they do not quantify an FPS or frame-time change.
- Use a cap. Set the in-game target to a rate the system can sustain in both sailing and populated areas. Do not use an uncapped peak as evidence that the target is stable.
- Reduce expensive groups. Lower ray tracing, shadows, lighting, clouds, fog, water and screen-space effects together, then reassess. Keep textures and geometry higher if memory and frame time allow, because reducing every option at once makes the visual trade-off difficult to identify.
- Compare frame generation. Turn it off to establish responsiveness, then enable it and check steering, camera movement and input feel rather than relying only on the displayed counter.
- Recheck image defects. Shimmering, ghosting or softness can indicate an upscaler quality problem rather than a raw GPU shortage. Compare Balanced and Quality at the same resolution before changing the entire preset.
Version 1.0.8 is described as the final major content update, not the final software update. Ubisoft’s notes say, “The team will follow-up with quality-of-life updates over the coming months.” That statement does not establish a future FPS improvement, so revisit the patch status if a later update is released.
What settings should I use on a handheld?
Ubisoft confirms dedicated handheld presets and described Steam Deck as Verified at launch. Start with the game’s handheld preset rather than transplanting a desktop 1080p/60 or 1440p/60 target.

After selecting the preset, choose a frame-rate and battery-life goal that suits the device, then check actual smoothness while moving through a settlement. No dependable battery-life or Steam Deck FPS measurement is established here, so do not treat a desktop target as a handheld guarantee.
Are the 30, 40 and 60 FPS modes PC settings?
No. Ubisoft’s launch article labels 60 FPS Performance, 30 FPS Fidelity and 40 FPS Balanced as PlayStation 5 modes. PC players should use the PC graphics menu’s resolution, FPS target, preset, ray tracing, upscaler and frame-generation controls instead.

Can I install the game on a hard disk drive instead of an SSD?
Ubisoft’s US store specifies 65GB on an SSD with a DRAM cache, so a hard-disk installation does not match the published storage requirement. Check the interface, physical fit and free capacity of an existing compatible SSD before buying replacement hardware.
Does the 4K target mean native 4K rendering?
No. Ubisoft’s 4K/60 specification includes Quality upscaling, so the output resolution is 3,840×2,160 while the game may reconstruct part of the image from a lower internal resolution. Changing the upscaler changes the stated target configuration.
Can a 12GB graphics card guarantee 1080p at 60 FPS?
No. The 1080p/60 examples also specify a processor, 16GB dual-channel memory and the required SSD, and the figures describe complete systems. An individual card can miss the target when another component or scene is the limiting factor.
