ARC Raiders is worth buying for a solo player only if “solo” means queuing alone in an online extraction game and accepting that other Raiders may attack. Its core loop—fighting ARC machines, scavenging, crafting, completing trader quests and extracting with your haul—can be played without a human teammate. It is not an offline campaign, a private lobby or a guaranteed AI-only mode. Embark’s limited PvE matchmaking test ran from October 13 to October 20, 2026, and has ended; the developer has not committed to bringing it back. Buy the Standard edition if machine combat and progression outweigh the risk of PvP. Wait if a permanent PvE-only queue is essential, and pass if you require offline or pause-anytime single-player.

What does “solo PvE” mean in ARC Raiders right now?

ARC Raiders lets you enter a match alone, but solo is a party-size choice, not a promise that the match contains only bots. The normal game is an online extraction experience in which ARC machines and other survivors occupy the same world. A player who queues alone can therefore encounter hostile human Raiders, lose carried loot on a failed extraction and face the same risk-reward loop as a group.

That distinction is the central buying decision. If you want to fight machines, search ruins, complete quests and improve your character while tolerating the possibility of an ambush, the Standard edition has a plausible fit. If “solo PvE” means no player damage, no human opponents, a private lobby or an offline story mode, the current product does not meet that requirement.

Embark lists solo play and parties of up to three, while its store description warns about both machines and other survivors. The game requires an internet connection, an Embark ID and an account on the platform where you play. Nexon’s product information explicitly says there is no single-player mode in the offline-campaign sense.

Is the PvE-only toggle available after October’s test?

No. Embark’s limited PvE matchmaking test ended on October 20, 2026. The toggle was not launched as a permanent mode, and the developer has not announced that it is available again as of October 30.

The test began on October 13 and was intended to collect data and feedback. On October 20, the ARC Raiders team said it still did not know the outcome of its analysis. In the original explanation, executive producer Aleks also cautioned that the test “is not a promise that there will be a PvE mode in the future.” Embark described the response as polarizing and expected to share more information in November, but that expectation is not a commitment to a return date or a permanent queue.

“We don’t yet know what the outcome of the data analysis will be,” the ARC Raiders team wrote in its October 20 update.

Any guide that presents the October toggle as a feature you can enable today is out of date. A future announcement could change the answer, so check Embark’s latest news before purchasing if guaranteed PvE is the deciding requirement.

What was included in the temporary PvE test?

The test is useful for understanding what Embark experimented with, but its rules should be read in the past tense. It was not an alternate edition and did not establish the final design of a future PvE queue.

Test detail What it meant during October 13–20 What you should infer today
Player damage Player-to-player damage was disabled. Normal matchmaking should not be assumed to have this protection; the test has ended.
Enemies ARC machines still threatened players. PvE interest is centered on the machine-combat and extraction loop, not a risk-free mode.
Loot economy Overall loot value was lower than in the regular experience. A future PvE version could have different rewards; no permanent economy has been announced.
Party sizes Different party sizes shared sessions. Do not assume a future queue would separate solo, duo and trio players.
Conditions and locations Night Raid, Locked Gate, Hidden Bunker, Frigate and Redirection were excluded. “PvE on every map and condition” was never established by this test.

Embark later reported more than 30 million PvE rounds during the test. That is a count of rounds, not unique players, and it does not prove that a permanent mode will launch. The developer also said 51% of surveyed players were interested in a dedicated PvE option. Because that is a survey result rather than a census of all owners, it indicates demand without predicting Embark’s final decision.

What do you actually do when playing alone?

A solo run follows the same broad extraction structure as a group run. You enter a map, locate resources and objectives, manage equipment, decide how much danger to accept and attempt to extract. ARC enemies create the constant environmental threat; other Raiders add an unpredictable human threat in normal matchmaking.

  • Fight machines: ARC units are the main PvE opponents and shape how you move, spend ammunition and choose engagements.
  • Scavenge: Search locations for materials, equipment and valuables. Carrying more increases the value of a successful extraction but makes a failed run more painful.
  • Craft and improve: Materials feed crafting and progression systems, giving repeat runs a purpose beyond a single match.
  • Complete trader quests: Quests provide structured objectives for players who prefer a checklist to unstructured looting.
  • Build skills: Character progression and the skill system give longer-term goals, although your results still depend on surviving enough runs to bank resources.

Solo play changes the decision-making rather than removing the game’s tension. A group can divide attention, revive one another and cover an extraction. Alone, you must choose whether a valuable item or quest objective is worth exposing yourself to an ARC patrol—or to a human squad that heard the same gunfire. That trade-off is part of the intended extraction format, not a technical defect that a solo setting automatically fixes.

Does the October content update make solo buying more attractive?

It adds more PvE material to investigate, but update notes are not proof of quality or of a safer solo experience. The October 8 Frozen Trail update added the Pendola Pass map, Bully, Skulker and Hydra enemies, two weapons, a changed skill tree, an Outpost and 22 quests, among other changes. These additions expand the machine-fighting, exploration and progression sides of the game that appeal to PvE-minded buyers.

Live Update 2.3.0 on October 27 added a new player project and fixes. It did not announce a restored permanent PvE queue. Treat those notes as evidence that the game is receiving ongoing content and maintenance, not as a substitute for confirmation of a no-PvP mode.

How much should player-interest and review data influence the decision?

Use the available numbers as context, not as a guarantee that the game suits a solo PvE preference. Embark’s 2026 play-style breakdown described 37% of players as friendly co-op, 27% as mixed and 34% as pure PvP. The categories are rounded and should not be forced to total exactly 100%; more importantly, they describe reported play styles, not the percentage of solo purchasers who avoid PvP.

Steam’s listing showed 81% positive across 204,201 English reviews and 72% positive across 8,756 recent reviews when observed on October 29, 2026. Those figures change over time and cover the whole game. They do not isolate solo PvE, establish that hostile-player encounters are rare or confirm that a dedicated PvE queue will return.

The strongest evidence for a PvE buyer is therefore qualitative: there is a substantial machine-combat and progression loop, and many players expressed interest in a dedicated PvE option. The strongest counter-evidence is operational: the only no-player-damage queue was temporary, had reduced loot and exclusions, and is currently unavailable.

Your priority Recommendation Reason
You enjoy ARC fights, scavenging, crafting and quests, and can accept occasional PvP. Buy Standard Solo queuing is supported in the normal online game, and the core PvE loop remains available without a teammate.
You want machine-only matches and would be unhappy if the toggle never returns. Wait The test ended, the outcome is undecided and no permanent PvE promise exists.
You require an offline campaign, private lobby or pause-anytime play. Pass The game requires online services and does not offer a standalone single-player mode.
You mainly want competitive fights against other Raiders. Buy only if the extraction format appeals Solo is a permitted entry size, but it does not turn the game into a dedicated competitive solo queue.

There is no objective answer independent of PvP tolerance. A player who treats losing a haul to another Raider as exciting may find the same encounter unacceptable if they bought specifically for a calm PvE campaign. Decide which reaction describes you before paying.

Which edition makes sense for a solo PvE buyer?

Standard is the relevant edition for judging whether the game itself fits. Steam describes Deluxe as the base game plus cosmetic content and 2,400 Raider Tokens. There is no documented Deluxe-only PvE entitlement, private matchmaking benefit or protection from player damage. Paying extra therefore does not solve the central solo-PvE uncertainty.

Check the current price, taxes and refund rules on your own storefront and in your region. A euro-denominated listing should not be converted into a claimed US price, and neither edition should be purchased on the assumption that an unannounced future mode is included.

Where can you play, and what accounts are required?

Embark lists Steam, Epic Games Store, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, with GeForce NOW access also listed. Availability, platform pricing and regional terms can change, so verify the current store page before checkout.

Regardless of platform, plan on online connectivity, an Embark ID and a third-party platform account. Those requirements matter to buyers who want a portable offline game: ARC Raiders is a server-based product, not software that can be launched independently without authentication.

What is the timeline behind the PvE confusion?

  • January 27, 2026: Embark documented an optional level-40 Solo vs Squads queue for skilled players seeking an additional PvP challenge. That was not a PvE-only queue, and historical patch documentation should not be treated as proof it remains available today.
  • October 8, 2026: Frozen Trail added Pendola Pass, three named ARC enemies, two weapons, a revised skill tree, an Outpost and 22 quests, among other content.
  • October 13–20, 2026: The PvE matchmaking toggle test disabled player damage, reduced overall loot, mixed party sizes and excluded Night Raid, Locked Gate, Hidden Bunker, Frigate and Redirection.
  • October 20, 2026: Embark confirmed that the limited test had ended and that it needed to analyze results and feedback.
  • October 27, 2026: Live Update 2.3.0 added a player project and fixes; it did not restore a permanent PvE queue.
  • October 29, 2026: Embark announced a separate official collection of physical gaming gear. That announcement did not add a game mode or create a physical edition.

This sequence explains why older videos and guides can be misleading: they may accurately show a toggle that was real for one week, yet still give the wrong answer for a buyer shopping on October 30.

What should you check before buying?

  1. Define your non-negotiable: Write down whether any player combat is acceptable. “Rarely” and “never” lead to different purchases.
  2. Verify the current mode list: Check Embark’s latest announcement rather than relying on a guide dated October 13–20.
  3. Confirm online requirements: Make sure you can use an Embark ID, your platform account and a reliable connection.
  4. Choose Standard first: Cosmetics and Raider Tokens do not address PvE availability. Consider Deluxe only if those extras have independent value.
  5. Review the storefront’s refund policy: A refund window may be useful if the platform permits returns, but eligibility varies by platform, region and play time.
  6. Reassess after the November communication: Embark expected to share more information, but do not treat that expectation as a promise that a mode will launch.

Is ARC Raiders worth buying for solo PvE players?

For a solo player who wants an online PvE-leaning extraction game and can live with hostile Raiders, yes—the Standard edition is a reasonable conditional purchase. The machines, scavenging, quests, crafting, skills and expanding content provide a real reason to play alone even though the game does not require a human teammate.

For someone who defines solo PvE as guaranteed player-free matchmaking, the answer is no for now. The October test ended, its future is undecided and its temporary rules were not a permanent product promise. Waiting for Embark’s next announcement is the safer choice. For an offline or private campaign, pass altogether because the documented game structure does not offer one.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I switch between a PvE queue and normal PvPvE matches today?

There is no confirmed permanent PvE toggle to switch on as of October 30, 2026. The switch used during the October 13–20 experiment disappeared when that limited test ended; normal online matchmaking remains the relevant baseline unless Embark announces otherwise.

Will every ARC Raiders map and event be available in a future PvE mode?

That has not been promised. The temporary experiment excluded Night Raid, Locked Gate, Hidden Bunker, Frigate and Redirection, so its rules cannot be used to guarantee full map or condition coverage in a later mode.

Do I need the Deluxe edition to play solo?

No. Deluxe contains the base game plus cosmetics and 2,400 Raider Tokens according to the Steam listing; no Deluxe-only solo or PvE access has been documented. Standard is sufficient for evaluating the core game.

Do positive Steam reviews show that solo PvE is a safe purchase?

Not by themselves. The displayed review percentages cover the entire player experience and do not separate solo PvE buyers from PvP-focused or co-op players. They are changing platform indicators, not evidence that human encounters are absent or that a dedicated PvE mode is permanent.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Can ARC Raiders be played without an internet connection?

No. The documented requirements include online servers, an Embark ID and a third-party platform account, and the publisher says there is no standalone single-player mode. It should be treated as an online service game rather than an offline campaign.
