To reset an Acoustic Research (AR) speaker, first read the exact model number on its label. AR uses different reset controls across the AWSBT1, Sedona, Charleston/AWS11, ARAP50, ARS15 and ARS60, so there is no universal button combination. For the AWSBT1, hold Pair for 12 seconds until a fast double beep. For Sedona, hold Volume − and Volume + for 6 seconds. For Charleston/AWS11, hold Power and Volume − for 6 seconds. For the ARAP50 Wi-Fi/AirPlay system, hold Reverse, Forward and Power together for 5 seconds. After any reset, forget the old device on your phone or computer and set up the speaker again.

Why must I identify the exact AR speaker model first?

“AR speaker” describes several Acoustic Research products with different controls and firmware. A combination that resets one model can do nothing—or trigger another function—on a different model. Read the model printed on the rear, base, battery compartment or rating label before pressing buttons.

  • AWSBT1: portable Bluetooth speaker with a dedicated Pair button.
  • AR Sedona: portable Bluetooth model whose reset uses both volume buttons.
  • AR Charleston/AWS11: reset uses Power and Volume minus.
  • ARAP50: Wi-Fi/AirPlay system with a network reset, not merely a Bluetooth reset.
  • ARS15: can reject a new connection when its stored-device limit is reached; its documented troubleshooting also covers charging-overload shutdown.
  • ARS60: the documented six-second On/Off hold enters pairing mode and reconnects to the last paired device; it is not presented as a factory-reset command.

If the label is unreadable, photograph it and enlarge the image rather than guessing from the speaker’s appearance. The controls and reset behavior are model-specific.

What should I check before resetting an AR speaker?

Many apparent reset problems are caused by an active cable, a flat battery, the wrong input source or an old Bluetooth record. Work through this short recovery sequence before and after the model-specific button hold.

  • Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
  • Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
  • Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
  • Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
  • 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
  1. Disconnect wired sources. Remove AUX and USB cables while testing Bluetooth. The AWS11 instructions specifically warn that an occupied AUX jack can prevent Bluetooth playback; the ARAP50 procedure also requires removing its USB sync cable.
  2. Confirm power. Charge the speaker and check its power indicator. For AWSBT1 troubleshooting, verify the AC adapter, battery freshness, battery polarity, source-device volume and speaker volume.
  3. Bring the phone close. Keep the phone or computer within roughly 33 feet (10 meters). Walls and other obstacles can reduce that approximate range stated in the Sedona quick-start guide.
  4. Remove the old Bluetooth record. In the phone or computer’s Bluetooth settings, select the AR device and choose Forget, Remove device or the equivalent. This clears the host’s stale connection record; a speaker reset does not automatically erase the entry shown on your phone.
  5. Run the correct reset. Use only the sequence for the model printed on the speaker. Hold the buttons for the full documented time and wait for the beep, audio signal or shutdown confirmation.
  6. Pair again. Reopen Bluetooth settings, scan for the displayed AR name and select it. The Sedona guide specifies passkey 0000 if a code is requested.
  7. Test quietly first. Start with moderate volume on the source device and speaker, confirm audio, then raise the level gradually.

How do I reset the AR AWSBT1?

The AWSBT1 Bluetooth reset is a 12-second hold of its Pair button. A fast double beep confirms that the reset command was accepted.

  1. Turn the AWSBT1 on and unplug any AUX or USB connection.
  2. Press and hold Pair for 12 seconds without releasing early.
  3. Listen for the fast double beep. That is the documented reset indication from VOXX International’s AWSBT1 support instructions.
  4. On the phone or computer, forget the previous AWSBT1 entry if it is still listed.
  5. Scan again, select the speaker’s displayed name and test playback.

If there is no beep, check the adapter, battery condition and polarity, then verify both source and speaker volume before trying the hold again. The reset addresses Bluetooth state; it cannot repair a failed battery, charging circuit or speaker driver.

How do I reset an AR Sedona speaker?

With the Sedona powered on, hold Volume minus and Volume plus together for 6 seconds. The speaker gives an audio signal and turns itself off when the reset completes.

  1. Remove AUX and USB cables and switch the speaker on.
  2. Press and hold Volume − and Volume + simultaneously for 6 seconds.
  3. Release after the audio signal and automatic shutdown.
  4. Forget AR Sedona in the phone or computer’s Bluetooth menu.
  5. Power the speaker on, place it in pairing mode, select its name and enter 0000 if the device requests a passkey.

The Sedona quick-start guide describes Bluetooth operation up to approximately 33 feet (10 meters). Treat that as an open-air estimate; distance, walls and interference can shorten it.

How do I reset an AR Charleston or AWS11?

For the AR Charleston/AWS11, the documented reset is a 6-second hold of Power and Volume minus. An audio signal followed by shutdown indicates completion.

  1. Turn the speaker on and remove the AUX cable. The AWS11 guide warns that an occupied AUX jack can block Bluetooth playback.
  2. Press and hold Power and Volume − together for 6 seconds.
  3. Wait for the audio signal and the speaker’s shutdown.
  4. Forget AR Charleston (or the corresponding AWS11 entry) on the phone or computer.
  5. Restart the speaker, select it from the Bluetooth scan list and play a short test track.

If the speaker powers off but will not pair afterward, repeat the host-side Forget step. A reset sequence and the phone’s stored Bluetooth profile are separate operations.

How do I factory-reset the ARAP50 Wi-Fi/AirPlay system?

The ARAP50 procedure clears its network profile, restores the default AirPlay device name and returns volume to its default setting. It is a network and AirPlay reset, so you must run Wi-Fi setup again afterward.

  1. Stop any AirPlay or other stream.
  2. Unplug the USB sync cable.
  3. Press and hold Reverse, Forward and Power at the same time for 5 seconds.
  4. Release the buttons after the reset completes.
  5. On your phone or computer, select the restored default AirPlay name or begin the ARAP50 Wi-Fi setup process, then enter your network details again.

Do not use the ARAP50 combination on a Bluetooth-only AR model. Its purpose is to remove network configuration, not to clear a generic Bluetooth pairing list.

What are the ARS15 and ARS60 recovery procedures?

ARS15: what does a charging-overload shutdown mean?

ARS15 troubleshooting says a charging overload can shut the unit down for protection. Disconnect the USB cable, allow the unit to settle, and try powering it on again. If it starts normally, use a known-good cable and charger and monitor whether the shutdown returns.

The ARS15 can store pairing credentials for up to eight Bluetooth devices, according to a 2016 VOXX International support article. When that capacity is full, a new phone can appear unable to pair even though the speaker is functioning. Remove unused AR entries from the host devices you control and retry pairing; do not assume the six-second controls documented for another model apply to the ARS15.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

ARS60: how do I enter pairing mode?

The ARS60 manual documents a 6-second hold of On/Off to enter pairing mode. It also automatically reconnects to the last paired device. This is a connection procedure, not a documented factory reset, so use it when the speaker is powered and you need to make it discoverable.

Which AR reset should I use?

Use this reference table only after confirming the model label. “Post-reset setup” describes what you must do after the buttons complete their action.

Why is my AR speaker still not pairing after a reset?

Pairing can fail even when the reset itself worked. Check the failure in this order so you do not repeat a button sequence unnecessarily.

The speaker is not visible

  • Confirm that the model is actually in pairing or discoverable mode. The ARS60 requires the documented six-second On/Off hold for pairing mode; a reset on another model does not automatically make every AR product visible.
  • Move the phone within the Sedona guide’s approximate 33-foot (10-meter) range and remove walls or large obstacles where possible.
  • Turn Bluetooth off and back on at the phone, then rescan. Test with a second phone to distinguish a speaker problem from a host-device problem.
  • Keep the speaker away from competing wireless devices during the first connection attempt.

The old name appears but connection fails

  • Use the phone’s Forget or Remove command, not merely Disconnect, then scan again.
  • Ensure another nearby phone is not automatically reconnecting to the speaker first. Disable Bluetooth temporarily on that phone while you pair the intended device.
  • For ARS15, consider whether eight stored credentials have already filled its pairing capacity.

The speaker pairs but plays no audio

  • Remove the AUX cable and confirm the speaker is set to Bluetooth rather than a wired source.
  • Raise source-device volume and speaker volume independently; either control can be turned down while the connection remains active.
  • Stop other media apps and start a short, known-good track.

What should I check when an AR speaker has no sound?

No sound after pairing does not prove that the speaker needs another reset. Isolate power, source selection, cables and the playback device before treating it as a hardware failure.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  1. Check power and charging. Try a known-good charger or cable. On the AWSBT1, verify the AC adapter and battery condition; on the ARS15, disconnect USB if charging-overload protection may have shut the unit down.
  2. Remove every wired input. An occupied AUX jack can take priority over Bluetooth on the AWS11. Disconnect USB accessories while testing other models.
  3. Confirm the active source. Select Bluetooth on the source device and start media after the connection status shows connected.
  4. Test another phone or computer. If the second device produces sound, the original host’s volume, output routing or Bluetooth profile is the likely cause.
  5. Try a cable or source you know works. A cable fault can mimic a dead speaker.
  6. Move away from interference. Nearby wireless equipment and obstacles can interrupt the link even when the phone remains within the nominal range.

If the unit still will not power on, charge, pair or produce sound after the appropriate documented sequence, the likely causes include a failed battery, power or charging port, amplifier or speaker driver. Consult the manual or manufacturer support; a reset cannot repair physical damage.

How do I reconnect an AR speaker after resetting it?

Reconnect from a clean Bluetooth or Wi-Fi setup rather than selecting an obsolete saved profile.

  1. Finish the reset and wait until the speaker has shut down or signaled completion.
  2. Power it back on. If the model requires a separate pairing command, enter pairing mode before scanning.
  3. Open the phone or computer’s Bluetooth settings, or the ARAP50 network/AirPlay setup for that model.
  4. Forget duplicate or stale AR entries, then select the newly displayed speaker name.
  5. Accept the Sedona passkey 0000 if prompted.
  6. Play audio at moderate volume, then increase it only after sound is confirmed.

For ARAP50, reconnecting means repeating Wi-Fi setup because its network profile was deliberately cleared. For Bluetooth models, the host-side Forget action is still required even when the speaker has completed its reset.

When should I stop resetting and seek service?

Stop repeating button combinations when the speaker has no power indicator, will not accept a charge, becomes unusually hot, has a damaged port, or remains silent with two known-good source devices and cables. Document the model number, the behavior of its indicator or beep, and the steps already attempted, then use the model manual or manufacturer support. Repeated resets are not a substitute for replacing a failed battery, repairing a port or servicing a damaged driver.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can a reset delete Bluetooth settings from my phone?

No. The reset changes the speaker’s stored state; the phone keeps its old AR entry until you choose Forget or Remove device. Deleting that host entry and pairing again prevents the phone from reusing an obsolete connection profile.

Why does my AR speaker switch back to AUX even though Bluetooth is connected?

An inserted 3.5 mm cable can take priority over Bluetooth on models such as the AWS11. Remove the cable completely, restart playback and verify that the speaker is receiving the Bluetooth source rather than the wired input.

What does passkey 0000 mean when pairing an AR Sedona?

It is the four-digit Bluetooth code specified in the Sedona quick-start guide when a host device asks for authentication. Enter it only during the Sedona pairing prompt; it is not a universal code for every AR model.

Will resetting the ARAP50 reconnect it to my old Wi-Fi automatically?

No. The ARAP50 reset clears its network profile, so the previous wireless credentials are no longer available to the speaker. You must perform Wi-Fi/AirPlay setup again and supply the network details.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Can a factory reset fix a speaker that has been dropped or exposed to liquid?

A reset only changes software or stored connection settings. Physical impact, liquid damage, a failed battery and a damaged speaker driver require inspection or repair rather than additional button holds.
