Instead of Eraser
Eraser alternatives
Eraser is a free Windows security tool for overwriting files, folders, deleted data, unused disk space, and the current user’s Recycle Bin. It works with any drive supported by Windows, offers pseudorandom, HMG IS5, DoD 5220.22-M, and other overwrite schemes, and lets you design pass counts and data types. A scheduler handles recurring tasks and missed schedules, while Explorer integration and a command-line interface offer alternate workflows.

Switching may make sense if you need another platform, a different focus, or simpler file operations. Eraser supports Windows only, and free-space wiping on network drives can behave unexpectedly with NAS knowledge requirements or enforced quotas. Its download page also cautions that erasure security has not been verified and that code may leave traces. Compare whether you need broad drive targets, scheduled or custom methods, local-only processing, portable use, startup management, or Linux support before choosing an alternative.
