Instead of Apache Druid
Apache Druid alternatives
Apache Druid targets real-time analytics workloads where streaming and batch data must produce sub-second OLAP results. Its columnar, time-indexed, dictionary- and bitmap-indexed storage handles high-cardinality datasets from billions to trillions of rows, while native Kafka and Kinesis integrations support query-on-arrival ingestion. Druid also offers SQL and JSON-over-HTTP queries, a web console, deep-storage scaling, replication, automated recovery, and support for hundreds to 100,000 queries per second. It is free, open source, and self-hostable, but Windows is unsupported, the local quickstart needs at least 6 GiB of RAM and Java 17, and production security requires configuration.

Alternatives suit readers who need a different database model, application interface, platform, or operating model. MySQL, PostgreSQL, and SQL Server focus on relational workloads, while SQLite keeps a transactional database in one local file. DynamoDB and Aurora provide managed AWS services, and Azure SQL Database handles provisioning, patching, backups, monitoring, and high availability. Compare streaming ingestion, analytical latency, transaction behavior, scaling, security, recovery, deployment responsibility, and platform support before replacing Druid.
