This October 2 roundup brings together seven Apple-related stories: a Texas school district’s device lease, a replaceable layer reportedly built into the iPhone Duo’s folding display, upcoming Apple Store presentations, speculation about a home hub, iPhone Duo photos, a claimed phone-security bypass, and reported Apple lobbying in the EU. The stories come from outside publications and differ in how firmly their details are established.
Beaumont ISD plans a four-year Apple device lease
The Beaumont Independent School District board in Texas approved a four-year lease for about $11.19 million in Apple devices, according to the Beaumont Enterprise’s October 2026 report. The plan covers 14,585 devices and is expected to cost about $2.8 million per year.

| MacBook Neo laptops | 9,500 | Students in grades 3–12 |
| MacBook Neo laptops | 1,000 | Teachers |
The newspaper relayed district figures saying 63% of its devices were beyond their recommended lifecycle and that device support costs were $469,576. These are district-reported figures, not an independent audit. Administrators considered four-year total cost, residual value and buyback, repairs and warranty coverage, device management, and financial stewardship. For older students, the district also compared MacBook Neo with Lenovo and Asus models. This is a local institutional procurement decision, not a general recommendation for individual buyers.

In an interview reported by 9to5Mac, Apple vice president of Hardware Engineering Kate Bergeron described a cover layer above the iPhone Duo’s folding display. She said the matte coating helps minimize the crease and that Apple engineered the layer to wear over a longer period. Bergeron also said the layer is replaceable: “you can peel off that layer and get a new one.” This is her description as reported by 9to5Mac, not an independent durability test.

- SUPERIOR COMFORT — Unlike traditional circular ear buds, the design of EarPods is defined by the geometry of the ear. Which makes them more comfortable for more people than any other ear bud–style headphones.
- HIGH-QUALITY AUDIO — The speakers inside EarPods have been engineered to maximize sound output and minimize sound loss, which means you get high-quality audio.
- BUILT-IN REMOTE — EarPods with USB-C plug also include a built-in remote that lets you adjust the volume, control the playback of music and video, and answer or end calls with a pinch of the cord.
- COMPATIBILITY — Works with all devices that have a USB-C port.
- INTEGRATED MICROPHONE — A built-in microphone precisely captures your voice while you’re on the phone, taking a FaceTime call, or summoning Siri — so you’re always heard loud and clear.
Apple home hub remains the subject of speculation
Two linked commentaries discuss a rumored Apple home hub, but neither establishes announced specifications. Macworld’s commentary suggests the rumored square display could be smaller than some expectations and cautions that many renderings may be inaccurate. Cult of Mac speculates that the device might combine smart-speaker and display functions with use as a digital photo frame. Treat both descriptions as conjecture, not confirmed features or dimensions.

Company claims a way around iPhone inactivity reboot
Apple World Today linked to a 404 Media report about a company that makes phone-hacking devices. The company claims to have developed a way to bypass the iPhone’s automatic inactivity reboot, potentially making data on a locked phone more accessible to police. The reviewed reporting does not establish independent verification of the claimed capability; it should be understood as an attributed claim, not a confirmed description of a working exploit.

The roundup attributes to the Financial Times a report that Apple met EU policymakers 257 times since June 2024 and spent €8 million to €9 million per year on lobbying. The Financial Times article was subscription-restricted in the review, so its full account could not be inspected. The figures should therefore remain attributed to the FT as relayed by Apple World Today.
