What SGPGIMS is proposing
The proposed clinic would be led by an anaesthesiologist, who would conduct a comprehensive assessment and coordinate specialist consultations for complex cases. The intention is to give patients a single coordinated point of care instead of asking them to navigate disconnected assessments across departments.

SGPGIMS director Dr RK Dhiman described the concept as “One Clinic, One Team, One Plan”, covering the patient’s surgical journey “from preparation before surgery to care during and after the procedure.” The proposal therefore spans preoperative preparation, care during surgery and postoperative care, although the report does not set out a detailed protocol for any of those stages.
Why a coordinated pathway may matter
According to the Hindustan Times report, patients with diabetes, hypertension, or cardiac, pulmonary or renal problems may need consultations and investigations in several departments before they are considered fit for surgery. These separate steps can mean repeat hospital visits, particularly burdensome for people travelling from rural or remote areas, and may sometimes contribute to surgical delays.

The proposed “one clinic, one team” approach aims to coordinate assessments and specialist input for complex cases. The report does not quantify how many visits patients currently make or how often this process delays surgery, so the scale of the problem is not established by figures.

The proposal was discussed at the 3rd National Conference of the Indian Society of Intensive Care & Perioperative Medicine (ISICPM-2026), held in Ayodhya from October 2 to 4, 2026. SGPGIMS’s department of anaesthesiology and intensive care collaborated with Rajarshi Dashrath Autonomous State Medical College, Ayodhya, for the event. Conference discussion provides context; it does not establish that the clinic is operating or that it has improved care.

For now, patients can understand the announcement as a proposed coordination model, not as confirmation of a service they can book or a change to current referral arrangements. The report gives no implementation results or measured outcomes for this proposal. It therefore does not establish that the model has reduced delays, complications, costs, hospital stays or deaths.
