Two late-October announcements in 2023 and 2024 are not enough to establish an October tradition: the list also includes a January announcement, an October base-chip model followed later by Pro and Max models, and a March Pro/Max launch. Treat the dates as a record of past announcements, not a forecast.

| Configuration | U.S. launch starting price | Starting storage stated by Apple |
|---|---|---|
| 14-inch, M5 Pro | $2,199 | 1TB |
| 16-inch, M5 Pro | $2,699 | 1TB |
| 14-inch, M5 Max | $3,599 | 2TB |

These configuration and price details come from Apple’s March 3, 2026 release. The same release lists the 14-inch M5 model with 1TB starting storage and a U.S. starting price of $1,699; Apple’s October 2025 announcement had listed that model at $1,599. Because the stated price and standard configuration changed between announcements, check Apple’s live store or a retailer for a current quote rather than treating either launch figure as current.
Should you buy a MacBook Pro now or wait?
Make the decision around your needs and the cost of waiting, not an assumed launch month. No next-generation date is established, so waiting does not come with a reliable timeline.

- Buy now if your current laptop is holding back work and a MacBook Pro configuration available at today’s actual price fits your workload and budget.
- Wait if your current machine is adequate, you can tolerate an unknown wait, and you have a concrete reason to want a future configuration rather than simply expecting a predictable refresh.
- Choose the configuration deliberately: compare 14- versus 16-inch size, M5 Pro versus M5 Max, memory and storage needs, and the price you can actually get. Apple’s launch announcement establishes the listed configurations and starting storage, but it does not determine which one is right for your workload.
Apple describes M5 Pro and M5 Max as up to four times faster than the previous generation, a claim attributed to Apple senior vice president of Hardware Engineering John Ternus in the March 2026 announcement. That is Apple’s own performance claim, not an independent benchmark; consult Apple’s stated comparison and test context before using it to predict performance for a particular task.
