Choose Conan Exiles if you want to play on PS5 now. Its PS4 edition runs through backward compatibility and the PlayStation listing advertises full single-player, co-op and persistent online multiplayer. Choose Aloft if you are deciding what to wait for: its planned PS5 release is aimed at colorful exploration, floating-island restoration and creative skyship building rather than Conan’s harsher survival-combat loop.
There is an important timing catch. Aloft and the native PS5 version, Conan Exiles Enhanced, are both announced for early 2027, with no exact day published. This is therefore a comparison between a game available today on PS5, a future console release, and a future native upgrade—not two currently released native PS5 games.

Which game is better on PS5 right now?
Conan Exiles is the only practical choice today. Sony’s US listing confirms that the PS4 game is playable on PS5, while Aloft has only an announced early-2027 PS5 release. Conan’s native Enhanced edition is also a future release, so the version you can play now is the backward-compatible PS4 build, not the upcoming PS5 edition. PlayStation’s Conan Exiles listing is the current place to verify availability and online requirements.
For a purchase decision, separate “available now” from “best fit later.” Conan is the immediate answer for a solo campaign or an online group. Aloft is the more appealing wait if your group wants a lower-pressure building and exploration game. Those are fit judgments based on the publishers’ descriptions, not a comparative PS5 performance test; no Aloft console build or Conan Enhanced launch build is available to assess here.

When will Aloft and Conan Exiles Enhanced launch on PS5?
Both are planned for early 2027, but neither has an exact launch date. Funcom communications on the PlayStation Blog announce Aloft’s console debut and Conan Exiles Enhanced for that window. Funcom communications manager Jarle Hrafn Grindhaug wrote, “We’ll share release dates and more details for both games at a later date.” Read the October 27, 2026 announcement before treating a month, day, price or final feature list as confirmed.

The announcement also says the planned Aloft version incorporates five major content updates released during Early Access. That is a count of PC Early Access updates being included in the planned console version, not five post-launch PS5 updates. Conan Enhanced is a distinct native-generation edition, while the existing PS4 edition remains the way to play Conan on PS5 before that upgrade arrives.
What is the core difference between Aloft and Conan Exiles?
Aloft is an ecosystem-restoration and skyship-building sandbox; Conan Exiles is a brutal survival game built around resources, danger and combat. Both let you build and play alone or with others, but they create very different pressure and priorities.
Aloft: restore a broken world while building a home that moves
Funcom describes Aloft as a game of floating islands that can be converted into skyships. You explore, glide between islands, repair ecosystems and discover resources while designing a mobile base. The loop is about finding a route, improving your ship and bringing life back to damaged environments. Its visual and mechanical premise supports experimentation: building is not merely a defensive shell but the way you travel and organize a group’s project.
That premise makes Aloft a natural fit for players who enjoy creative construction, collecting and cooperative planning without wanting every expedition to become a fight for survival. “Gentler” does not mean entirely risk-free or combat-free; it means restoration and exploration are the advertised center of gravity.

Conan Exiles: survive, build and fight in a hostile sandbox
Conan Exiles begins with survival fundamentals: gather materials, manage food and climate, craft equipment and establish a base. The world then expands into combat progression, dungeons, sorcery, thralls and the possibility of conflict with other players. Building is extensive, but it is tied to protection, production and progression in a dangerous setting.

Its tone is deliberately harsher than Aloft’s. A group that enjoys defending a settlement, preparing for dangerous areas and deciding how much risk to take will find more of that structure in Conan. A group that wants to decorate, explore and restore without a constant combat agenda may prefer Aloft’s stated direction.
Which is better for solo play?
Pick Aloft for creative solo projects; pick Conan Exiles for a longer survival-and-combat progression. Both support solo play, but the evidence is not equally specific for the future PS5 versions.
Solo Aloft
Funcom presents Aloft as explorable alone or with friends, and the PC listing identifies a single-player mode. That supports a solo-friendly design, but it does not confirm every PS5 setting, save behavior or interface detail. Until the console listing is published, avoid assuming that PC solo features map one-for-one to PS5.

Solo Conan Exiles
Sony’s listing explicitly advertises full single-player for Conan Exiles. You can gather, craft, build, explore dungeons and progress without joining another player. The survival systems and combat give solo play a stronger preparation-and-risk rhythm: equipment, food, shelter and followers matter because the world is designed to threaten an unprepared character.
Conan is the safer recommendation when you want a documented PS5 option today and a solo mode whose existence is stated directly on the platform listing. It is less suitable if you dislike hostile encounters, repeated resource runs or the possibility that your building plans are interrupted by combat.

How do co-op groups differ?
Conan has confirmed co-op and persistent online multiplayer on its current PlayStation listing; Aloft is advertised as a co-op sandbox, but its PS5-specific limits and requirements remain unknown.

Aloft group play
The PC version’s published feature set includes online co-op, private joining and public lobbies. Those details explain the intended group structure: friends can work on exploration, ship construction and ecosystem projects together, with a choice between a private session and a broader lobby model. They do not establish that the same lobby names, player counts or privacy controls will ship on PS5.
For a PS5 group, wait for Aloft’s individual PlayStation listing to answer three practical questions: the maximum players, whether private and public sessions are both available, and whether PlayStation Plus is required. Sony’s general policy is that most online games require PlayStation Plus, but the game-specific listing is the authority for Aloft.
Conan group play
Conan’s current listing advertises co-op and persistent online multiplayer, including up to 40 online players with PlayStation Plus. That number is the listing’s stated online-player maximum for the currently listed game. It is not an independently measured population, a promise that a private group should contain 40 people, or a confirmed limit for the future Enhanced edition.
Persistent servers change the group experience. You can return to an established world, continue a base project and make progress beyond a single session. Funcom discusses official and private-server choices, and a private server can be useful for a regular group that wants a world available even when the host is offline. Check current server offerings and Enhanced compatibility before renting anything.
Do you need PlayStation Plus?
Conan Exiles requires PlayStation Plus for its online play according to the US PlayStation listing. The listing also shows one local player, so its co-op is online rather than two people sharing one PS5 screen. Aloft’s PS5 requirement has not been announced; check its game page when the console listing goes live.

PlayStation Plus is separate from owning the game. A player can use Conan’s single-player mode without online multiplayer, while a group joining an online world needs the required subscription on the accounts participating in online play. Sony can change policy or display requirements by region, so US readers should use the US listing and other regions should check their local store page.
Can two people play either game on one PS5?
Do not plan on couch co-op for Conan Exiles. Sony’s listing specifies one local player and describes multiplayer as online. You would need separate consoles and online connections for a co-op group.
Aloft’s PS5 split-screen or local multiplayer support is not established. Its PC feature list and general co-op description cannot confirm a couch mode on Sony’s console. If one household wants to play together, wait for the PS5 listing to state local-player support explicitly rather than assuming that “co-op” means shared-screen play.

Existing PlayStation Conan owners are promised free access to the Enhanced edition when it arrives, with purchased content carrying forward. Funcom says the native PS5 version is a free upgrade for owners of the PlayStation game. Isle of Siptah remains a separate purchase, so owning the base game does not automatically include that expansion. Cross-play is planned soon after launch, not confirmed for day one. Treat “soon after” as a rollout plan rather than a launch feature. The same caution applies to migration details: Funcom’s FAQ describes future transition rules in which loading a single-player save into Enhanced prevents reopening that save in Legacy, Isle of Siptah bases cannot be preserved in the planned migration, and Legacy official-server access ends with the transition. These are announced future plans, not rules already in force for the current PS4-on-PS5 experience.
If you are starting Conan now, keep important saves and server decisions in mind before moving to Enhanced. A group that depends on a particular Legacy server or a Siptah base should wait for the final migration instructions rather than assuming every world will transfer unchanged.

Can you buy a physical Conan Exiles disc for PS5?
The physical product is a PS4 disc that can run on a disc-drive PS5, not a native PS5 disc. Funcom documented a PS4 Day One physical edition. Sony’s backward-compatibility rules say a supported PS4 disc must remain inserted while you play and cannot run on a PS5 Digital Edition. Verify the retailer’s edition, region and condition because historical box-code bonuses and current stock are not guaranteed. Funcom’s launch announcement identifies the PS4 physical edition.
Digital Edition owners should use the PlayStation Store version instead of ordering a disc they cannot insert. There is no substantiated Aloft PS5 physical SKU in the available announcements, so do not treat a retailer placeholder or a PC box as evidence of a console disc release.

What should you do before buying or waiting?
- Decide whether “now” matters. If you want to play this weekend, choose the current Conan Exiles PS4 edition for PS5. If you can wait until early 2027, compare Aloft and Conan Enhanced after their final console listings appear.
- Match the pressure level to your group. Choose Conan for combat, survival management and a persistent world. Choose Aloft for restoration, travel and construction-led cooperation.
- Check your hardware. A physical Conan PS4 copy needs a PS5 with a disc drive. A PS5 Digital Edition requires a digital purchase.
- Confirm online rules for every player. Conan’s listing requires PlayStation Plus for online play. Do not assume Aloft’s requirement, player cap or local mode until Sony publishes its PS5 page.
- Plan around the Enhanced transition. Conan owners are promised a free upgrade, but future save and server migration rules may affect Legacy and Isle of Siptah worlds.
- Recheck launch information. Neither early-2027 game has an exact day, final PS5 pricing, confirmed Aloft player count or day-one cross-play specification at the time of this comparison.
How we picked the recommendation
The ranking uses availability, officially stated play modes and the design goals described by Sony and Funcom. Conan ranks first for a PS5 buyer because its current PS4 edition is playable now and its listing confirms single-player, co-op and persistent online multiplayer. Aloft ranks first only for the narrower preference of a gentler, exploration-and-building sandbox worth anticipating. No comparative frame-rate, resolution, stability or hands-on result is used because neither unreleased PS5 version has been independently assessed here.
