Short answer: No major AI music service in this comparison can be called universally “copyright-safe.” Stable Audio publishes the most specific account of its training corpus, including 1,278,902 recordings and a downloadable attribution list for its Freesound subset. ElevenMusic gives users the clearest affirmative control over whether uploaded music and prompts enter model training. Udio has announced licensing arrangements with Warner Music Group and Universal Music Group, but has not published a complete corpus inventory. Suno discloses that it trained on tens of millions of publicly available audio files and metadata, without a song-level list. Your safest commercial choice depends on three separate questions: how much training provenance is documented, what your plan permits, and whether your particular output contains enough human authorship for protection in the countries where you will release it.
What do training-data transparency and output rights actually measure?
Training-data transparency concerns the material used to build a model: where recordings came from, whether permission or a licence was obtained, and whether a provider identifies the individual works. Output rights concern a different stage: what you may do with a song generated today, whether the service gives you contractual rights, and whether copyright law recognizes any human authorship in the result.

A provider can document licensed inputs without guaranteeing that every output is non-infringing. Conversely, a plan can grant you broad commercial permission while the provider publishes little information about its corpus. An opt-out is also narrower than a licence: it may stop future use of your uploads for training, but it does not erase earlier processing or reserve every right for other musicians.
Which generator publishes the most specific training-corpus information?
Among the services compared here, Stable Audio has the most concrete public accounting. The other disclosures differ in scope, and none supplies a complete, independently searchable list of every recording used.

Stable Audio: counts plus partial, downloadable attribution
Stability AI reports 1,278,902 recordings in its 2026 accounting: 472,618 recordings from Freesound and 806,284 from AudioSparx. For the Freesound portion, it provides a downloadable per-recording attribution list. AudioSparx tracks are not individually disclosed.
Stability says it filtered music from Freesound and removed identified copyrighted material. It does not describe an equivalent per-track screening result or attribution list for AudioSparx. That makes the disclosure unusually useful for tracing one part of the corpus, but it is not proof that every training item is cleared in every jurisdiction.
Suno: a broad public-web description, not a song list
Suno’s California disclosure says its models are trained on “publicly available music files and related metadata accessible on third-party websites on the open internet.” The same disclosure reports tens of millions of public audio files and says collection began in spring 2023. It acknowledges that the material can include public-domain and intellectual-property-protected works.
Suno does not publish a song-level corpus inventory in that disclosure. “Publicly available” describes accessibility, not the absence of copyright or a blanket licence from every rights holder, so it should not be read as a clearance guarantee.
Udio: important label agreements, limited corpus detail
On November 19, 2025, Udio announced licensing agreements with Warner Music Group and Universal Music Group for next-generation models and work with participating artists. Those arrangements are material evidence that some data and artist relationships are being licensed.

The announcement does not provide a track-by-track corpus, an artist-by-artist compensation ledger, or a complete description of all data used in earlier and transition-stage models. Treat the announcement as evidence of specific partnerships, not as an inventory of the entire training set.

ElevenMusic: strongest disclosure about user submissions
ElevenMusic’s clearest transparency advantage is about customer data rather than the historical corpus. Its terms state that uploaded music and input are not used to train or improve its models unless the user affirmatively opts in. The service also provides a setting to turn off training on outputs.
That is a meaningful control for a songwriter protecting unreleased demos, but it does not by itself reveal every recording used to develop the underlying model.
How do the providers compare on provenance, licensing and commercial risk?
The table separates evidence that is often incorrectly bundled together. “Not stated” means the cited public material does not establish the item; it is not a finding that no policy exists.

Which service gives you the clearest opt-out?
ElevenMusic provides the most explicit affirmative control over uploaded music and prompts. Its terms use an opt-in standard: training does not occur unless you actively authorize it. Withdrawal is prospective, so it stops future use after processing but does not undo uses that occurred before you withdrew consent.

ElevenMusic and the broader account control
For ElevenLabs services generally, the account path is Terms and privacy → Data use, where you can disable Improve the models for everyone. The change applies after processing and does not reverse earlier uses. ElevenMusic adds a more specific promise for Uploaded Music and Input, plus a separate output-training control in account settings.
Stable Audio
Stability AI’s terms describe an opt-out covering Inputs and Outputs used to train models. The same terms keep responsibility for accuracy, legality and appropriateness with the user and do not provide a blanket promise that an output will not infringe someone else’s rights.
Suno
Suno’s cited terms grant a worldwide, sublicensable, royalty-free licence to use submitted content for service provision, monetization, promotion and model improvement. The cited material does not establish a comparable account-level switch that prevents those improvement uses, so do not assume that deleting a project or changing a plan is an opt-out.
Rights-holder reservations are different
A musician or label can reserve rights even when a platform offers no user-facing control. In a declaration dated May 16, 2024, Sony Music Group said its works expressly prohibit text or data mining, web scraping and similar reproductions, extractions or uses for training, developing or commercializing an AI system unless explicitly authorized. That is a rights-holder position, not a button that removes your upload from a provider’s systems.
Do licensing announcements make a generator copyright-safe?
No. A licensing announcement can show that a provider has permission for identified catalogues or collaborations, but it does not establish that every recording in every model was licensed, that every output avoids similarity, or that your country will recognize the output as copyrightable.

Output risk has at least four layers:
- Input provenance: what recordings and metadata trained the model and what permissions covered them.
- Contract terms: what the service promises you may do with a generated file and what obligations remain yours.
- Substantial similarity: whether an output reproduces protected melody, lyrics, performance characteristics or a recognizable recording.
- Human authorship: whether your own lyrics, arrangement, performance, editing or production choices are sufficient for protection under the applicable law.
The European Commission says providers of general-purpose AI models must maintain a copyright-compliance policy and publish a sufficiently detailed summary of training content under the AI Act. The U.S. Copyright Office’s AI initiative addresses both training-data copyright and output copyrightability; Part 2 of its report was published on January 29, 2025. These obligations improve transparency, but they do not turn a generated track into an automatically cleared work.
What do the plan terms allow for commercial releases?
Plan labels matter more than a provider’s general marketing language. Confirm the exact plan attached to the song, because changing plans later may not retroactively change the rights granted when the song was made.

How should you evaluate a generator before releasing a song?
Use this sequence for each track rather than relying on a provider-wide reputation.
- Record the creation conditions. Save the service name, plan, account date, model or mode shown in the interface, prompts, uploaded files and downloaded masters. Keep invoices or plan receipts with the project.
- Read the current output clause. Look for ownership, commercial permission, attribution, streaming limits, sublicensing, takedown language and any promise that is expressly disclaimed.
- Check training controls before uploading. For ElevenMusic, leave the affirmative training opt-in off unless you intentionally want to participate. For other services, locate the current data-use and model-improvement settings and capture their status.
- Separate your contributions. Keep dated stems for lyrics, melodies, performances, edits and production you created. Human contributions can matter for registration and enforcement even when the generated portion has uncertain protection.
- Screen the output. Compare the melody, lyrics, hook, vocal phrasing and arrangement against references you know. Do not upload another artist’s recording as a prompt or source unless you have permission.
- Check territory-specific advice. A release in the United States, European Union or another country may face different rules for training, moral rights, collective licensing and copyrightability.
- Archive the policy version. Save a PDF or screenshot of the terms and data settings in force when the song was generated. Policies and transition arrangements can change after the file is created.
Which generator is the best fit for different priorities?
If corpus traceability is your priority
Start with Stable Audio because its numerical accounting and Freesound attribution file let you investigate more of the source material than the other disclosures here. You still need to treat the unitemized AudioSparx portion and the output licence as unresolved questions.
If protecting unreleased demos is your priority
ElevenMusic is the clearest choice on the evidence provided: uploaded music and input stay out of training unless you affirmatively opt in, and output training can be disabled. Keep in mind that this control says little about the provenance of the base model.

If you value named industry partnerships
Udio’s Warner Music Group and Universal Music Group agreements are the strongest named licensing development in this set. Because the November 2025 announcement does not enumerate the full corpus or your exact end-user rights, obtain and read the current terms before distributing a track.
If plan-based ownership is your immediate concern
Suno’s Basic versus Pro/Premier distinction is decisive: Basic songs are described as Suno-owned and non-commercial, while Pro and Premier users are described as owning their songs. That contractual permission does not settle whether an AI-only composition receives copyright protection.

Choose based on the risk you are actually managing. Stable Audio leads on published corpus detail; ElevenMusic leads on affirmative user-data control; Udio has meaningful but incomplete label-licensing evidence; and Suno offers clear plan distinctions but broad training language and no verified equivalent opt-out in the cited terms. None eliminates the need to review the live contract, preserve evidence of your human contribution and screen the finished track for similarity.
Re-check the provider’s terms immediately before delivery to a distributor, label or client. The relevant version is the one governing your account and creation date, not an older screenshot or a general statement that the service uses “licensed” data.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does a label partnership prove that every song in a model is licensed?
No. A partnership normally identifies a participating catalogue, model generation or artist programme. It does not, by itself, disclose legacy training data, every recording in the corpus, or the compensation and permissions attached to each item.
Can I withdraw a song after I allowed it to train a model?
Usually, an opt-out works prospectively rather than retroactively. ElevenMusic states that withdrawal applies after the change is processed, so earlier uses are not undone; retain a dated record of when you changed the setting.

What evidence should I keep if a distributor asks about an AI-generated track?
Keep the plan receipt, creation date, applicable terms, data-use settings, prompts, uploaded-file permissions and exported stems. Also document the lyrics, performances, edits and mixing decisions you made, because those details help explain your human contribution.
Does adding my own lyrics make an AI song copyrightable?
It can strengthen the claim for the parts you wrote, performed or arranged, but the result depends on the degree of human authorship and the law where protection is sought. A service’s ownership clause is not the same as a government finding that every generated element is protected.
