ChatGPT narrowly won this one-off ADHD organisation test, because it caught the most consequential contradictions in a chaotic birthday-party brief while marking unknowns instead of quietly filling them in. Claude came close with sharper prioritisation, while Gemini and Copilot lost ground through schedule inconsistencies or assumptions that the notes did not support.
That is a useful case study, not proof that one assistant is universally best. The test used one fictional scenario, one fresh conversation and the first free-tier response from each service. The practical lesson is broader: an AI organiser earns trust by detecting constraints, showing its arithmetic, asking for missing decisions and giving you a safe next step.

What exactly was tested?
Stuff contributor Esat Dedezade published the comparison on 14 August 2026. Each assistant received the same fictional notes about a Saturday birthday party for a six-year-old and was asked, in effect, to turn an overloaded brain dump into a workable plan. The evaluator kept the first answer from the free consumer version of ChatGPT, Google Gemini, Claude and Microsoft Copilot.
The notes deliberately mixed facts, guesses and omissions:

- The party was scheduled for Saturday, 2pm to 5pm, at home.
- Eight children were invited, three parents had not replied, the partner said ten children were coming, and two younger siblings might appear.
- Six adults were confirmed.
- The total budget was £120, including food and decorations.
- A pizza quote cost £78 but excluded food for adults.
- The cake served ten.
- One guest had a peanut allergy and another had a dairy restriction.
- The living room was comfortable for 14 people; rain might make the garden unusable from 3pm.
- Parent attendance was undecided, candles, plates and drinks were missing, and both parents had limited time on Saturday morning.
The point was not to generate the prettiest party schedule. It was to see whether an assistant noticed conflicts and uncertainty without inventing convenient answers. The evaluator looked for six capabilities: constraint detection, consistent arithmetic and timing, explicit uncertainty, dietary-risk awareness, practical next actions and restraint around unsupported facts.
Which assistant handled the contradictions best?
ChatGPT ranked first by a narrow margin. It treated attendance as unresolved, tested the room and budget against plausible headcounts, and converted the unknowns into questions to send to parents. Its answer was not flawless, but it made fewer dangerous assumptions than the alternatives.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors| Assistant | What it did well | Where it fell short |
|---|---|---|
| ChatGPT | Flagged the unresolved headcount; calculated that ten children plus six adults exceed the 14-person room capacity; rejected the £78 pizza on budget grounds; proposed simpler food and follow-up questions. | Presented an apparent £85 working budget without including the still-unknown cake cost, and did not fully solve what to do if everyone had to move indoors. |
| Google Gemini | Suggested chasing replies, reconsidering pizza and preparing indoor activities. | Changed the party to 2pm–3pm in one section despite the stated 2pm–5pm time, then used a different schedule later. Its claimed maximum of 18 people did not clearly distinguish children, siblings and adults, and its allergy treatment did not examine cake suitability or cross-contamination in enough depth. |
| Claude | Started with four sensible decisions: confirm headcount, test indoor capacity, protect the budget and clarify parent attendance. It made relatively few unsupported assumptions. | Provided a decision framework rather than a complete shopping and activity plan. Its food advice also needed stronger cross-contamination precautions. |
| Microsoft Copilot | Offered a detailed menu, activity schedule, shopping list, party-bag ideas and dairy-free and peanut-free options. | Assumed the three unanswered parents were likely additional adults, assumed usable overflow space, and used approximate line items that did not consistently support its claimed £22 contingency. |
Why did the headcount matter more than the party menu?
Because every other decision depends on who will actually arrive. The notes contain at least four competing counts: eight invited children, a partner’s claim that ten children are coming, two possible siblings and six confirmed adults. Three families had not replied, and parent attendance was undecided.
A cautious organiser should not collapse those into one “maximum” and proceed. The immediate action is a short message to each family asking four separate questions:
- Will the invited child attend?
- Will an adult stay, and if so, how many?
- Will a younger sibling come?
- Are there allergies, intolerances or other food requirements?
Until replies arrive, plan two scenarios rather than pretending the number is known. A child count of ten plus six adults is already 16 people, two above the living room’s comfortable capacity of 14, before any siblings are added. If rain removes the garden from 3pm, that is a safety and comfort problem, not a minor scheduling detail.

What should happen if the room is too small?
The test did not establish a complete indoor solution, and neither should an assistant invent one. A useful response should ask whether another room can legally and safely be used, whether the guest list can be reduced, whether the event can move to a suitable alternative venue, or whether the date can change. It should not quietly assume that a hallway, bedroom or neighbour’s space is available.
Did the assistants do the budget arithmetic correctly?
The £78 pizza quote consumes 65% of the £120 budget and leaves £42 for adult food, cake, drinks, plates, candles, decorations and any dietary-safe alternatives. Because the quote excludes adult food, it is not a complete catering price. ChatGPT and Claude recognised that trade-off and recommended a simpler spread; Copilot also rejected the pizza but then built a detailed total from approximate prices that did not reliably add up.
Good budgeting here means separating confirmed costs from estimates and reserving money for omissions. The cake price was not supplied, so an £85 “remaining” budget is not a final budget. An assistant should show a running total with an explicit unknown rather than label the balance as spare cash.
| Known item | Amount or status | What remains unresolved |
|---|---|---|
| Total allowance | £120 | Whether the limit is strict and whether it includes venue or transport |
| Pizza quote | £78 | Adult portions, delivery details and suitability for the allergy requirements |
| Budget after pizza | £42 | Cake, drinks, plates, candles, decorations and all other food |
| Cake | Serves 10 | Price, ingredients, allergy controls and whether enough portions are needed |
A supermarket-style buffet can be easier to scale than a fixed pizza order, but the exact menu and prices still need checking locally. The important decision is to avoid committing most of the budget before the headcount and dietary information are known.
How should an AI handle peanut and dairy requirements?
It should treat the requirements as safety constraints, not as a request for one token “free-from” item. The organiser needs to confirm the severity of the peanut allergy, read the full ingredient list and precautionary allergen statement on every packaged food, and ask the family what precautions they require. A dairy restriction may mean an intolerance, allergy or a family preference; the parent should define what is safe.

- Check the cake, icing, fillings, toppings and decorations separately; a cake serving ten is not automatically safe.
- Keep an ingredient list and packaging available for parents to inspect.
- Use clean utensils, boards and serving dishes to reduce cross-contact.
- Do not describe food as safe merely because peanuts or dairy are not listed as deliberate ingredients; precautionary “may contain” wording matters.
- Ask the affected families whether they will bring a known-safe portion or prefer that you provide one.
The comparison found that ChatGPT went furthest by recommending ingredient checks and food suitable for affected guests where possible. Gemini, Claude and Copilot mentioned alternatives, but their answers did not consistently address cross-contamination. No assistant can determine an individual child’s medical risk from a short note, so parent confirmation remains essential.
What did each response reveal about AI organisation quality?
ChatGPT: strongest constraint checking
ChatGPT’s answer connected the separate problems instead of treating them as independent shopping tasks. It asked the organiser to contact the three families, challenged the 16-person indoor scenario, explained why £78 was disproportionate and suggested a simpler spread. It also noticed that a ten-serving cake might not cover twelve children if the larger attendance estimate and two siblings both materialised, proposing another dessert.
Its weakness is instructive: it appeared to have about £85 available after an initial calculation, even though the cake cost was unknown. That is exactly the kind of small overconfidence a user should query before spending money.
Claude: excellent first decisions, less execution
Claude led with the decisions that unblock everything else: headcount, space, budget and parent attendance. That ordering is valuable for an ADHD user because it reduces a sprawling list to a few high-impact questions. The trade-off was practical completeness: it did not turn the framework into a full shopping-and-activity plan, and its allergy guidance needed more detail about shared surfaces and utensils.
Gemini: useful ideas undermined by consistency errors
Gemini proposed chasing replies, revisiting pizza and preparing indoor activities. However, it wrote the event as 2pm–3pm in one place even though the notes said 2pm–5pm, then used a different schedule later. It also described a maximum of 18 without clearly showing which people were children, siblings or adults. For an organiser, a time contradiction can cause missed food, supervision and room changes, so this was more than a cosmetic error.

Copilot: detail that depended on assumptions
Copilot looked the most complete at first glance, with a menu, timetable, shopping plan, party bags and a budget. But it treated unanswered parents as likely attendees and assumed overflow space that had not been confirmed. Its approximate line items did not consistently support the stated £22 contingency. More detail is not automatically more reliable: every invented assumption creates another task for the user to correct.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. How can you use an AI organiser without accepting its assumptions?
Give the assistant a structured brief and require it to separate facts, unknowns and proposals. Then make it show its calculations before it writes a polished plan.
- Paste the raw notes without hiding conflicts. Include the original times, competing headcounts, budget limits and missing items.
- Request an “unknowns first” pass. Ask for contradictions, safety issues and questions that must be answered before booking or buying.
- Require scenario branches. Ask for a plan for the confirmed minimum and a separate plan if the larger attendance estimate is correct.
- Make arithmetic visible. Tell it to list each known cost, each estimate and every excluded item, with no unlabelled contingency.
- Demand source-of-truth scheduling. Instruct it to repeat the fixed 2pm–5pm window exactly and flag any change instead of silently editing it.
- Put dietary safety in a separate checklist. Ask for ingredient, packaging and cross-contact checks, then verify the result with the relevant parent.
- End with the next three actions. A short call list or message draft is more useful than another page of ideas.
A prompt such as “Do not assume an unanswered guest will attend. Mark every unknown, show the arithmetic and ask only the questions that change the decision” directly targets the failure modes in this comparison.
The Tool Desk
Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Is this enough to say which AI is best for ADHD organisation?
No. It supports a narrow conclusion: ChatGPT was the most useful first response for this particular fictional party brief, with Claude close behind. The exercise involved one scenario, one response per assistant and free consumer versions as they behaved on 14 August 2026. It was not a clinical study, a productivity benchmark or evidence that one tool works best for every person with ADHD.
The result is still valuable because it defines what “best” should mean for messy planning. Score an assistant on whether it catches constraints, keeps arithmetic and schedules consistent, handles uncertainty honestly, treats dietary risks seriously, proposes practical next steps and avoids making up facts. A service that asks one crucial question may be more helpful than one that produces a longer, more confident-looking plan.

As Dedezade put it: “The best response needed to spot the conflicting attendance figures, tight budget, limited space, and dietary requirements without inventing convenient solutions.” That standard is a better buying and prompting guide than word count or polish.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I ask an AI to turn an unstructured brain dump into a task list?
Yes, but ask it to label facts, assumptions and missing information before ordering tasks. Have it produce a short “do next” list first, then an optional detailed schedule so the output does not become another overwhelming document.
Recommended Free Tools
How do I stop an assistant from treating guesses as facts?
Tell it explicitly that unanswered people, prices and availability are unknown, and require an assumptions table with a confidence label. Ask it to pause before making recommendations whenever an unknown changes safety, capacity or cost.
Should I paste personal or medical details into a public AI chat?
Remove names, addresses, contact details and identifying information, and share only what is needed to plan. For allergies or other health risks, use the AI for reminders and questions, then rely on the responsible parent or clinician for the actual safety decision.
Would a second AI check improve the plan?
It can expose arithmetic or scheduling errors if you give the second assistant the original notes and ask for an adversarial check rather than a fresh plan. Compare disagreements against the source facts instead of choosing the answer that sounds most confident.
