Active Matter is available on Windows PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. Steam’s PC minimum is an Intel Core i5-6600 or AMD Ryzen 3 1300X, 8 GB RAM, and a GTX 1050 Ti, RX 470, or Arc A580; its recommended tier raises that to an i5-8700 or Ryzen 5 3600, 16 GB RAM, and an RTX 2060, RX 5700 XT, or Arc A770. Both PC tiers require 45 GB of SSD space and broadband internet. Matter Team publishes 60-FPS targets for PS5, Series S, PS5 Pro Performance, and Series X Performance, but these are targets—not independent measurements or guarantees. The console resolutions are upscaled, not stated as native 4K.
What are Active Matter’s PC system requirements?
Steam lists two Windows hardware tiers for Active Matter. The minimum describes the entry-level configuration; the recommended tier is the more suitable starting point if you want to match the store’s higher specification. Neither tier promises a particular frame rate: the requirements and the developer’s separate performance chart are published specifications, not measured results.

These figures come from the Steam listing published by Gaijin Network Ltd. The storage requirement is explicitly for an SSD; the listing does not say that it must be an NVMe drive, nor does it specify a particular SSD capacity beyond 45 GB of available space. Broadband is also listed for both tiers, so meeting the hardware minimum alone does not cover every stated requirement.
Think of the minimum as a threshold to compare against, not a promise that every PC with similar-sounding parts will perform identically. A GPU or CPU with a different model number cannot be judged precisely from the tier alone, and the published material does not provide a direct equivalency chart for other components. The recommended parts offer a clearer target for a new build or upgrade, but they still are not a guarantee of a sustained frame rate.

Can my PC run Active Matter?
Start by checking your PC against the Steam minimum tier, then compare it with the recommended tier if you want a stronger hardware reference. On Windows, confirm your CPU model, installed RAM, graphics card, operating-system version, and available SSD space before deciding.
- Check Windows and processor: Steam lists 64-bit Windows 10 or 11 and a Core i5-6600/Ryzen 3 1300X at minimum. Its recommended CPU is Core i5-8700/Ryzen 5 3600.
- Check memory: The minimum is 8 GB RAM; the recommended amount is 16 GB.
- Identify the graphics card: Compare your GPU with one of the alternatives in the relevant Steam tier. Do not assume that a card from another generation is equivalent just because its model number is higher.
- Confirm the install drive: Make sure at least 45 GB is available on an SSD, rather than relying on free space on a hard disk.
- Check your connection: Broadband internet is listed as a requirement for both tiers.
If your PC falls below one of Steam’s listed parts, the available specifications do not establish whether it will run acceptably. If it meets the minimum, that still does not establish a particular resolution, graphics preset, or frame rate: those depend on the full system and settings, and no independent PC benchmark is included in the official material summarized here.
Why do Steam and the developer give different CPU recommendations?
There is a published discrepancy: Steam names a Core i5-8700 for the recommended tier, while Matter Team’s PC specification chart labels its 1080p Medium CPU as a Core i7-8700. Both sources list a Ryzen 5 3600 as the AMD alternative. The developer has not explained the difference in the cited material, so it should not be silently treated as a typo or as a resolved change.
If you are checking an existing PC, use the specific source and tier you are comparing rather than assuming the two Intel labels mean the same thing. If you are buying components, verify the processor model independently and check that the CPU, motherboard, and memory are compatible. The developer chart also pairs a Ryzen 5 5600X with DDR5 for its 1080p Ultra target; that combination should not be treated as a verified shopping list. Check CPU and motherboard memory support rather than inferring compatibility from the chart.
What PC performance targets does Matter Team publish?
Matter Team’s chart gives more granular resolution and preset targets than Steam’s minimum and recommended tiers. The numbers below are the developer’s stated targets, not captured frame rates, benchmark results, or assurances about what every system will sustain.

| Ultra, 4K | Core i7-14700K / Ryzen 7 7800X3D | RTX 5080 / RX 9070 XT | DDR5, 32 GB | Above 60 FPS |
The chart identifies Windows 10/11 64-bit and a 45 GB SSD, and names ultrawide support, DLSS 4.0, frame generation, XeSS, and FSR. It does not establish that every listed graphics card supports every upscaling option, or that each FPS target includes generated frames. Treat the named features as support claims in the chart, not a guarantee that a specific GPU, configuration, or game setting will use all of them.
Recommended Free Tools
The chart’s 1080p Medium target is above 60 FPS, while Steam’s recommended tier does not specify a resolution, preset, or frame rate. The developer’s higher-resolution targets call for progressively higher listed hardware, culminating in an RTX 5080 or RX 9070 XT and 32 GB DDR5 for Ultra at 4K. This is useful as a rough hardware planning reference, but not as a measured scaling curve: the chart does not publish frame-time data, test conditions, or independent results.
What are the Xbox and PlayStation performance targets?
Matter Team’s console chart gives each platform a target resolution and frame rate. Its resolution labels are explicitly upscaled, and the fidelity modes on PS5 Pro and Xbox Series X trade the 60-FPS Performance target for a 30-FPS target with ray-tracing effects.
| Console and preset | Published resolution wording | Published target | Ray tracing |
|---|---|---|---|
| PlayStation 5 | 2160p upscaled | 60 FPS | No |
| PlayStation 5 Pro Performance | 2160p upscaled using PSSR | 60 FPS | No |
| PlayStation 5 Pro Fidelity RT | 2160p upscaled using PSSR | 30 FPS | Shadows, ambient occlusion, and reflections |
| Xbox Series S | 1440p upscaled | 60 FPS | No |
| Xbox Series X Performance | 2160p upscaled | 60 FPS | No |
| Xbox Series X Fidelity RT | 2160p upscaled | 30 FPS | Shadows, ambient occlusion, and reflections |
These are Matter Team’s 2026 published targets. “2160p upscaled” should not be rewritten as native 4K: the chart describes an upscaled output. The PS5 Pro wording specifically names PSSR, but the chart does not provide captured image comparisons or measured performance results.
Is Active Matter 60 FPS on Series S, PS5, and Xbox Series X?
The official chart targets 60 FPS on Xbox Series S and PS5, as well as in Performance mode on PS5 Pro and Xbox Series X. For PS5 Pro and Series X, the Fidelity RT preset instead targets 30 FPS. These are developer targets, not independent measurements or a guarantee that every gameplay moment will hold the stated rate.

Series S has a different stated output—1440p upscaled—while PS5 and Series X Performance are listed at 2160p upscaled. That makes the published chart useful for comparing modes and output labels, but not enough to establish which platform is objectively smoother or delivers better image quality. No matched cross-platform test results or frame-time statistics are provided.
Which platform should you choose?
For someone deciding where to play, the most grounded choice is usually the hardware already available, followed by the trade-off between the published modes. A console buyer can weigh the 60-FPS Performance target against the 30-FPS Fidelity RT target on PS5 Pro or Series X, then consider the upscaled output resolution and whether the listed ray-tracing effects matter to them. A PC buyer can compare their components with Steam’s tiers and the developer’s target chart.
There is no evidence here for declaring PC, Xbox, or PlayStation the smoothest overall, or for claiming one console has better image quality. The official numbers are specifications, not a matched test under the same conditions. Choose based on your existing hardware and preferred mode rather than treating the target table as a comparative benchmark.
Does Active Matter support Linux, Steam Deck, and controllers?
Steam lists Linux requirements as well as Windows ones. Its minimum Linux tier uses the same CPU, RAM, GPU, SSD-space, and network specifications as the Windows minimum, while the recommended operating system is Ubuntu 26.04 64-bit with the recommended components. The developer FAQ says the game has native Linux support and works on Steam Deck, but does not publish a Steam Deck FPS guarantee.

Does cross-play mean my progress transfers between PC and console?
No. Active Matter supports cross-platform multiplayer, but the FAQ describes shared progress between the Steam and Gaijin.Net PC versions—not between PC and console. The FAQ also says console matchmaking can be restricted to the same platform, consoles only, or any platform, so cross-play availability and matchmaking preferences are separate from progression transfer.
The game launched on September 15, 2026, for Steam, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S, and is also sold through the Gaijin Store for PC. The developer FAQ says eligible early-version Gaijin Store buyers can link accounts for Steam access at no extra charge by November 23, 2026. That offer is conditional: check the eligibility rules and linking instructions rather than assuming that every purchase transfers.
What should I do if Active Matter stutters or performance drops?
First, distinguish a general PC hardware question from a known issue addressed in a developer update. The September 17 update reported fixes for periodic performance drops and added a recovery system for video-driver resets. Update 0.4.0.122 later reported a fix for some performance drops when entering combat with film grain enabled.

If a problem persists, confirm that the game is updated, compare your system with the published requirements, and note when the issue occurs—such as on entering combat or after a driver reset. The official specifications do not supply a universal settings recipe or a guarantee that a particular change will fix a specific PC.
Active Matter uses the Dagor Engine, according to the FAQ. The engine name by itself does not predict your frame rate or establish how a particular graphics driver will behave.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can I get Steam access if I bought an early version through the Gaijin Store?
The developer FAQ says eligible early-version buyers can link accounts for Steam access at no extra charge through November 23, 2026. Eligibility matters, so follow the FAQ’s account-linking instructions rather than assuming every Gaijin Store purchase qualifies.
Are Active Matter’s Standard, Advanced, and Deluxe editions different in gameplay content?
The FAQ says the editions differ in starting gear and resources, while playable content is otherwise identical. Whether a digital soundtrack is included depends on the edition and store.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesDid Active Matter’s updates prove that stuttering is fixed for everyone?
No. The patch notes report fixes for particular performance-drop and driver-reset situations, but they do not report a measured FPS uplift or establish that every player’s issue is gone. A remaining problem may depend on the player’s configuration or circumstances.
Is Active Matter’s PC performance chart an independent benchmark?
No. It is Matter Team’s hardware-dependent target chart. The cited official material does not provide independently measured cross-platform FPS samples or frame-time statistics.
