There is no universally best web-scraping proxy. The right choice depends on the sites you collect from, the countries you need, whether sessions must stay on one IP, how much traffic you send, and whether your team wants to operate rotation and rendering itself. A practical 2026 shortlist is Bright Data, Decodo, Oxylabs, SOAX, IPRoyal, Webshare, and Zyte. Treat these as use-case matches rather than a verified league table: the available material does not establish a comparable independent performance ranking across all seven.
Use a proxy network when you need control over routing and sessions. Consider a managed scraping API when you would rather outsource rotation, browser rendering, ban handling, or extraction. Before committing, run a small, documented pilot against your real target domains and compare the cost per successful, usable record—not just the advertised IP count or headline price.

These seven providers are candidates for different operating models, not seven identical products. Some sell proxy endpoints and leave crawling, parsing, retries, and browser automation to you. Others combine network access with managed APIs that can render pages, maintain sessions, or return extracted data. Comparing them only by the size of an advertised pool produces misleading results because a large pool does not prove success on your target sites or in your required locations.
Product pages, prices, trial credits, pool counts, and location totals change frequently. Figures below are dated provider claims viewed on October 25, 2026, unless a limitation is stated. Confirm current plans, acceptable-use terms, and support commitments before signing an order.

What are the seven web-scraping proxy picks?
| Provider | Primary model | Best fit to evaluate | Evidence and current claims |
|---|---|---|---|
| Bright Data | Proxy networks plus managed scraping products | Teams wanting a broad infrastructure and tooling catalog | Bright Data’s pricing page advertises 400M+ monthly residential IPs (provider claim, 2026) and products including Web Scraper API, Scraper Studio, Scraping Browser, SERP API, Web Unlocker, and datasets. |
| Decodo | Proxy network plus managed Web Data API | Teams considering both endpoints and a managed data-access layer | The company says Smartproxy became Decodo in April 2025. Its 2026 homepage claims 125M+ IPs in 195+ locations; both figures are provider-published and should be rechecked. |
| Oxylabs | Proxy and data-access services | Organizations with enterprise procurement and support requirements | It appears in major comparison lists, but the reviewed material does not establish current pool size, plan details, or relative performance. |
| SOAX | Proxy service | Projects that need detailed geographic targeting | A Bright Data comparison characterizes SOAX as offering granular geo-targeting. That description is vendor-authored and was not independently verified here. |
| IPRoyal | Proxy service with flexible-spend positioning | Teams modeling pay-as-you-go or variable workloads | Bright Data’s comparison describes pay-as-you-go projects and reports provider-supplied price and network claims. Check current rates, minimums, and expiration rules directly. |
| Webshare | Self-serve proxy service | Lightweight collection, testing, and early-stage projects | A Zyte comparison calls it easy to use for lightweight scraping. That is a vendor-authored characterization, not a current independent test. |
| Zyte | Managed scraping API | Teams that want the service to handle more of scraping operations | Its API page describes automatic ban handling, rendering, sessions, extraction, and rotation across residential, datacenter, and mobile IP types. It displays a $5 trial credit and starting prices that vary by target difficulty and rendering. |
Which provider fits a broad infrastructure requirement?
Bright Data
Bright Data is the broadest option on this shortlist if you want to compare raw proxy access with managed scraping tools under one catalog. Its official pricing page lists proxy networks alongside Web Scraper API, Scraper Studio, Scraping Browser, SERP API, Web Unlocker, and datasets. That breadth lets a team start with endpoints and later test a managed workflow without changing suppliers, although each product has its own limits and billing model.
Bright Data advertises more than 400 million monthly residential IPs on its 2026 pricing page. This is Bright Data’s figure, not an independently audited count, and “monthly IPs” is not the same as the number of addresses simultaneously available to your account. Ask how the metric is defined, how much concurrency your plan permits, and whether your required countries and cities are actually assignable.
The Tool Desk
Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Bright Data also publishes a 2026 comparison that labels products and competitors as “best” in various categories. Use that page to discover candidate features, not as a neutral ranking or proof of success on your targets.
Decodo (formerly Smartproxy)
Decodo is a current option when you want proxy infrastructure and a managed data-access product from the same provider. The company states that Smartproxy officially became Decodo in April 2025, so older documentation, SDK names, and invoices may still use the previous name. That rebrand matters when you search for setup guides or reconcile an existing account.
Decodo’s homepage presents an all-in-one Web Data API with scrape, search, map, and crawl endpoints in addition to proxy offerings. It claims more than 125 million IPs across 195-plus locations as of 2026. Those are live-site claims that can change; they do not establish that every location, protocol, or session mode is available on every plan. Confirm the countries, city-level targeting, concurrency, and retention behavior you need.
Decodo is worth piloting when your team is undecided between operating a proxy layer and delegating more of collection to an API. Model both paths separately because an API request may include extraction or browser work that would otherwise be your engineering cost.

Which options should enterprise buyers investigate?
Oxylabs
Oxylabs belongs on an enterprise evaluation list, especially when procurement, account management, and support processes are as important as endpoint mechanics. It appears in provider lists published by Bright Data and Zyte. The available material does not establish Oxylabs’ current pool size, plan structure, support response times, or performance against the other six, so do not attach a specific rank or numeric advantage to it.
Request a current product sheet and test account. Have procurement verify data-processing terms, acceptable-use restrictions, invoicing, service-level language, and the escalation path for blocked targets. Technical reviewers should separately verify protocol support, geographic granularity, sticky-session duration, concurrency ceilings, and logging controls.
SOAX
SOAX is a candidate for workloads where location precision is a first-order requirement. A Bright Data comparison describes it as offering granular geo-targeting, but that is a competitor’s characterization rather than an independently verified capability statement. Treat it as a question to validate, not a guaranteed feature.
During a pilot, test the exact country, region, city, or network location your data product needs. Record the assigned location on every request and compare the result with an independent geolocation check. Also test whether a location can be held for a session, how quickly the pool replenishes, and what happens when the requested area is unavailable.
Recommended Free Tools
IPRoyal
IPRoyal is a candidate for teams that prefer flexible spending over a large committed package. Bright Data’s comparison discusses pay-as-you-go projects and includes provider-reported prices and network claims. Those figures are volatile marketing information, not independent measurements, so obtain a current quote and read the billing rules closely.
Ask about minimum purchases, traffic or balance expiration, rollover, refunds for failed requests, authentication methods, and rates by proxy type. A nominally low per-gigabyte rate can be expensive if retries, blocked responses, or long-lived sessions consume traffic without producing usable records. Your cost model should use successful output as the denominator.
Which self-serve and managed alternatives deserve a pilot?
Webshare
Webshare is a self-serve candidate for lightweight scraping, development, and early-stage projects. Zyte’s comparison describes it as easy to use for testing and smaller workloads; that is a vendor-authored comparison, not a current independent test. Verify the live free-tier, paid-plan, proxy-type, and concurrency details before relying on them.

Its self-serve orientation can shorten the time from signup to a controlled proof of concept. That convenience does not remove the need to test your targets. Check authentication, rotation controls, country availability, error reporting, and whether support can help when a domain begins challenging your traffic.
Zyte
Zyte is the clearest managed-API alternative in this group. Its official API page describes automatic ban handling, browser rendering, session management, extraction, and rotation across residential, datacenter, and mobile IP types. That can reduce the amount of infrastructure your team operates, but it also means you must understand what each request includes and how target difficulty changes the bill.
The page displayed a $5 trial credit and starting at $0.06 per 1,000 successful responses in 2026. Treat both as dated, target-dependent offers rather than a guaranteed price. The same page explains that cost varies by website difficulty and whether browser rendering is used. A simple HTML response and a JavaScript-heavy page should therefore be modeled as different workloads.
Zyte’s page also reproduces success-rate and response-time figures attributed to Proxyway. Those figures are not a broad, current benchmark that proves Zyte wins across providers. Ask for the benchmark methodology and date if such numbers influence a purchase, then run your own target-specific test.
Should you buy proxy endpoints or a managed scraping API?
Choose endpoints when your team needs fine control over rotation, cookies, headers, retries, parsers, and browser orchestration. Choose a managed API when reducing operational work is worth paying for an integrated service that may handle rendering, extraction, ban responses, and session logic.

| Question | Proxy endpoints | Managed scraping API |
|---|---|---|
| Who operates rotation and retries? | Your collectors or middleware | Mostly the provider, within documented limits |
| Who renders JavaScript? | Your browser automation stack unless separately offered | Often available as a built-in feature; confirm when it is enabled and billed |
| What is the usual billing basis? | Traffic, IP, port, or subscription units | Requests or successful responses, often adjusted for target difficulty and rendering |
| How much control do you retain? | High control over sessions, headers, and parsing | Less low-level control, but less infrastructure to maintain |
| What must you integrate? | Proxy authentication, queueing, retries, parsing, storage, and monitoring | API client, response validation, extraction handling, and usage monitoring |
Do not compare a per-gigabyte proxy price directly with a per-request API price. Estimate the number of attempts, bytes, rendered seconds, retries, and successful records for the same target set. Include engineering and operations time when comparing total cost.

How do you compare providers fairly?
Define the workload before you ask for quotes or run trials. A representative test prevents a provider from winning simply because its advertised metric matches an easy scenario.
- List target domains and actions. Separate static pages, search results, authenticated areas, forms, and JavaScript-heavy pages. Confirm that each activity is permitted by the site’s terms and applicable law.
- Specify geography. Write down the countries, regions, cities, or network locations that must appear to the target. “Global coverage” is not a substitute for the exact locations you require.
- Describe session behavior. State whether each request can rotate, whether a cookie-bearing workflow must stay on one IP, and the longest session you need. Include concurrent sessions and request bursts.
- Define usable output. A successful HTTP status may still be a challenge page, empty result, wrong locale, or incomplete render. Count only records that pass your schema and quality checks.
- Set acceptance thresholds. Choose target-specific measures such as usable-record rate, median and tail latency, retry count, error mix, and cost per usable record. Keep the definitions identical for every provider.
- Run matched samples. Send comparable volumes at comparable times, using the same parser and validation logic. Repeat enough sessions to expose rotation and geography failures rather than judging from a handful of requests.
- Record operational friction. Capture setup time, dashboard clarity, logs, alerting, support response, credential controls, and the effort required to change a location or session policy.
- Review terms and governance. Check acceptable-use rules, data retention, subprocessors, deletion procedures, account limits, and how abuse complaints are handled before production approval.
What fields should appear in your evaluation worksheet?
Use one row per provider and keep verified facts separate from your own observations. The following fields cover the decisions that most often cause production surprises.
- Product model: endpoint-only, API, browser, extraction, or a combination.
- Proxy types: residential, datacenter, ISP, and mobile availability on the specific plan.
- Geography: country, region, city, ASN, or other targeting granularity.
- Session control: rotation trigger, sticky-session duration, cookie behavior, and concurrency.
- Target results: usable-record rate and challenge rate for each domain.
- Workflow integration: SDKs, API shape, browser compatibility, queues, and extraction formats.
- Pricing basis: per gigabyte, per IP, per request, successful response, target difficulty, rendering, or commitment.
- Operations: support channels, observability, onboarding, account roles, rate controls, and incident process.
- Governance: acceptable-use language, data-processing terms, retention, deletion, and audit evidence.
How do you model the real cost?
Start with a workload equation rather than a headline rate. For endpoint proxies, estimate total traffic cost = attempted requests × average bytes transferred × price per byte, then add the cost of retries, browser infrastructure, parsing, storage, and engineering time. For a request-priced API, estimate total API cost = billable requests or successful responses × unit price, then separate ordinary and rendered pages if the provider prices them differently.
Use cost per successful usable record as the comparison metric whenever possible. If Provider A returns twice as many challenge pages, its lower traffic rate may not be cheaper after retries and discarded output. If Provider B includes rendering and extraction, include the browser and maintenance costs you would otherwise pay yourself before deciding that its unit price is high.
Document whether a displayed price is a promotion, a trial credit, a starting rate, a recurring commitment, or a one-time allowance. The $5 Zyte credit and $0.06-per-1,000-successful-response starting figure, for example, are dated displays whose applicability depends on target difficulty and rendering. Apply the same discipline to any pool-size or location claim.
What technical pitfalls should you plan for?
Assuming a larger pool guarantees access
Pool size is an inventory claim, not a success guarantee. A target may block a broad address range, require a particular country, or detect request behavior regardless of how many IPs exist. Validate the exact domains and locations you care about.

Rotating too aggressively
Changing IPs on every request can break carts, logins, pagination, and cookies. Use a stable session where the workflow needs continuity, and rotate between sessions or after a documented failure condition. Confirm the provider’s sticky-session semantics instead of assuming that a username parameter alone preserves identity.
Ignoring rendering cost
JavaScript rendering, screenshots, and browser execution consume more resources than a plain HTTP fetch. Separate rendered and non-rendered workloads in your forecast and acceptance tests.
Measuring HTTP status instead of data quality
A 200 response can contain a consent wall, bot challenge, localized error, or partial page. Validate required fields, page identity, locale, and freshness before counting a response as successful.
Leaving credentials and logs uncontrolled
Proxy credentials can expose both your account and the destinations you access. Store them in a secrets manager, assign separate credentials by environment, restrict dashboard roles, and redact sensitive URLs or payloads from logs.
Skipping policy review
Publicly reachable data is not automatically unrestricted to collect or republish. Review the target’s terms, robots directives where relevant, privacy obligations, copyright or database-rights rules, and sector-specific restrictions. Keep an approval record for each production target and a process for honoring takedown or exclusion requests.
Which provider should you shortlist first?
- Start with Bright Data if you want to compare a large catalog of proxy and managed scraping products in one procurement conversation.
- Start with Decodo if the choice between proxy endpoints and a Web Data API is still open and you want both models represented.
- Include Oxylabs when enterprise procurement, support, and contractual requirements need a dedicated evaluation, but obtain current specifications rather than relying on comparison lists.
- Test SOAX when precise location targeting is central, and verify the exact city or region behavior yourself.
- Test IPRoyal when flexible or variable spending is important; examine expiration, minimums, and failed-request treatment.
- Use Webshare for an early self-serve pilot when the workload is light and you need to validate integration quickly.
- Evaluate Zyte when your team would rather buy a managed API that handles more rotation, rendering, session, and extraction work.
The most defensible selection is the provider that delivers the required usable records at an acceptable total cost and with an operating model your team can govern. Re-run the pilot when targets, geographies, traffic shape, or rendering requirements change; proxy fit is workload-specific and can change even when the provider’s name does not.
Frequently Asked Questions
Are residential proxies always better than datacenter proxies for scraping?
No. Residential addresses may work better for some consumer-facing targets, while datacenter proxies can be faster and easier to scale for permitted, low-risk collection. Choose by target behavior, required geography, session needs, and measured usable output rather than by proxy category alone.
How many proxy addresses does a scraping project need?
The number depends on concurrency, request rate, session duration, target limits, and how often you must rotate. Estimate simultaneous sessions and the target’s tolerated request frequency first, then increase capacity only when your pilot shows queueing, throttling, or address exhaustion.
Should a scraper change its IP on every request?
Usually not for workflows that carry cookies, authentication, carts, or pagination state. Keep a consistent session where the target expects continuity and rotate between sessions or after a defined failure signal; excessive rotation can look anomalous and can also break your own workflow.
