For new players, the most important banner rule is that guarantee counters carry over between channels of the same type, not between Agent and W-Engine channels. Battery Charge, Backup Battery Charge, and Ether Batteries are separate resources shown in the Compendium; check the live game for current values and banner rules. This FAQ reflects official updates through Version 3.2, announced September 9, 2026.
How do Agent and W-Engine banners work?
Zenless Zone Zero separates Agent Exclusive Channels from W-Engine Channels. The guarantee count for an Agent Exclusive Channel carries across other Exclusive Channels, while the W-Engine guarantee count carries across W-Engine Channels. The two types have independent counters: progress on one does not affect the other. HoYoverse’s Version 3.1 Limited-Time Channels notice, published July 27, 2026, states that guaranteed-signal search count is cumulative across channels of the same type and independent of other channel types.
For the current featured Agent or W-Engine, exact probabilities, and the full rules in force on your account, open the live channel’s Details panel. Older event rosters and dates are not a reliable guide to what is currently available.

Does banner pity carry over?
Yes, within the same channel type: Agent Exclusive Channel guarantee count carries over among Agent Exclusive Channels, and W-Engine Channel guarantee count carries over among W-Engine Channels. It does not cross between those types. Check the live channel’s Details panel for the exact current rules; the cited notice does not establish every guarantee mechanic or probability.
Can beginners get a selectable S-Rank reward?
Some players may see a selectable reward in the Beginner Guide, but it is not a universal new-account reward. In the Version 3.2 announcement, HoYoverse specified eligibility for players who did not obtain the selectable limited S-Rank reward from the Version 3.1 Marcel Anniversary Gift.

Agent selection
For eligible players, the announcement lists Jane, Hugo, and Soldier 0 – Anby as Agent choices.
W-Engine selection
After completing the required Phase 2 missions, eligible players can choose Sharpened Stinger, Myriad Eclipse, or Severed Innocence. See the Version 3.2 update announcement, published September 9, 2026, and check your own Beginner Guide interface for eligibility and requirements.

What are Battery Charge, Backup Battery Charge, and Ether Batteries?
The Compendium resource bar added in Version 3.0 displays Battery Charge, Backup Battery Charge, and Ether Batteries. These are progression resources, but the official update details cited here do not establish a current Battery Charge cap, regeneration rate, or optimal daily spending schedule. Use the current in-game resource information rather than relying on an old number or a fixed routine.
Version 2.5 details describe crafting Ether Batteries with Prepaid Power Cards and Battery Charge. Ether Batteries can be used to instantly complete eligible Combat Simulation and Area Patrol challenges, granting the corresponding upgrade materials and Drive Disc rewards. Not every activity is necessarily eligible; check the current in-game options.

How should a beginner approach progression?
Follow the story and the objectives the game puts in front of you, and use its planning aids to see what to upgrade and where to obtain materials. HoYoverse’s Version 1.4 notes described three tools for this:
- Special Training Plan: view Agent upgrade plans, calculate required materials, and navigate to acquisition screens.
- Combat Readiness: review recommended Agent upgrade paths.
- Inter-Knot Journey: review story progress, unlocked functions, and commissions.
These descriptions come from an older update, so menu names or locations may have changed. Confirm the current interface in game instead of following outdated step-by-step directions.

Use the live channel’s Details panel for banner-specific rules and probabilities, your Beginner Guide for account-specific reward eligibility, and the current in-game resource display for Battery Charge and related values. Version-specific rewards and interface details can change; the Version 3.2 announcement is dated September 9, 2026, and the channel carryover notice is dated July 27, 2026.
