What to do depends on the TV’s full model, software and the setting changed. Record those details first, then use the manufacturer’s guidance for that exact model or contact support before attempting a factory reset. A normal consumer reset may erase personal data and settings, and manufacturers do not establish that it restores every service-menu value.
Before resetting, record what changed
Write down the TV’s brand and full model number, its software version if available, and the exact service-menu parameter and value you changed. Include the value it had before, if you recorded it. Menu paths and reset behavior vary by model, software and region, so do not rely on a button sequence described for another TV.

Check the manufacturer’s current support page for your model. If the change is unknown or could affect the TV’s operation, ask manufacturer support or an authorized service provider what to do before making more changes. Do not guess at service-menu values or try installer-menu credentials.

A restart, a picture-and-sound reset and a full factory reset are different actions. None should be assumed to reverse a service-menu change.

Try ordinary troubleshooting before a full reset
- Restart the TV. Use the normal power-reset instructions for your model. If the picture, sound or menus return to normal, avoid a more destructive reset.
- Check for a software update. Samsung recommends checking for available software updates before a factory reset. Follow the update instructions for your model and region. Samsung Canada Support
- Consider a narrow picture/audio reset only if the symptom is limited to those settings. Consult your model’s guide; LG’s AV reset, for example, concerns picture and sound options rather than a full device reset. LG Support
- Contact support before a factory reset if the service-menu change is still the likely cause. Ask whether a reset is appropriate for the exact model and parameter. A reset may erase personal settings without correcting the change.
What model-specific factory-reset menus look like
These paths are examples from manufacturer support pages, not universal instructions. Check the current local page for your TV before using one.
- Samsung: Samsung UK lists Home → Settings → General → Reset for its current guide; some older models put Reset under Support → Self Diagnosis. Steps vary with model, software and region. The guide warns that a factory reset deletes TV data and downloaded apps. Samsung UK Support and Samsung Philippines Support
- Sony Google TV and Android TV: Sony recommends a power reset first. For supported Google TV models, its factory-reset option is under Settings → System → About → Reset; labels vary by menu version. Sony directs owners of other model types to different guidance. Sony Support
- LG webOS: LG lists All Settings → General → System → Reset to Initial settings for 2021-and-later webOS 6.0 models; Support for 2020 webOS 5.0; and General for 2019-and-older webOS models. Menus vary by model. LG USA Support
Know what a full reset can erase
Before confirming, read the TV’s on-screen warning and make sure you have any account credentials and Wi-Fi details needed to set it up again. Depending on the model, a factory reset may remove customized settings, accounts, downloaded apps, channels and wired or wireless network settings. Samsung UK warns that its process deletes TV data and downloaded apps; LG says a full reset removes installed apps and personal settings. Samsung UK Support and LG USA Support

Follow the on-screen reset process without unplugging or switching off the TV. Sony lists account information, channels, downloaded apps and wired and wireless network settings among items removed by a factory data reset. Sony Support

Why a factory reset may not fix a service-menu change
Service-menu values are model- and parameter-dependent. Samsung Australia notes that a factory reset may lose calibration changes when calibration was not performed through the service menu. That caveat does not show that every service-menu value is retained, erased or restored in a predictable way; it is a reason not to assume a consumer reset will return an arbitrary parameter to its previous state. Likewise, an installer-menu factory-default procedure documented for a specified LG commercial-TV context is not a consumer shortcut: LG says the required value and password must come from its technical support. Do not apply such instructions to another TV. LG Business Solutions

Stop experimenting with hidden settings if the TV has no picture, you cannot open its settings, expected inputs or features have disappeared, or a normal model-specific reset has not addressed the symptom. Contact the manufacturer or an authorized service provider with the model number, software version if known, exact setting changed, and symptoms. Samsung describes remote support, Sony directs users to product support when reset steps do not resolve the issue, and LG advises support or technician assistance for persistent problems.
