If your YouTube encoder stream stops when a scheduled event ends, first check that event’s Auto-start & Auto-stop setting in YouTube Studio. When Auto-stop is enabled, YouTube allows the encoder to stop the stream. Turn it off for a broadcast that should remain live, keep the encoder sending content, and do not click End Stream while you want the broadcast to continue. This is the first setting to investigate, not a confirmed explanation for every stream that ends at its scheduled time.
Check the scheduled stream’s Auto-stop setting
- In YouTube Studio, select Create → Go Live.
- Under Manage, select the scheduled stream that stopped.
- Open its stream settings and inspect Auto-start & Auto-stop. If the broadcast should remain live, turn off Auto-stop and save the setting. YouTube says these options let you start or stop streaming from your encoder when they are on: Manage live stream settings.
- If you reused settings from another stream, check this event directly. YouTube says reused stream settings also copy the Auto-start and Auto-stop selections.
The setting explains one way an encoder can stop a stream; it does not prove that Auto-stop caused this particular interruption. The stream type, encoder, and saved setting state all matter, and YouTube’s documentation does not establish that a scheduled event’s end time universally terminates every encoder feed.

Keep the encoder feed active, and avoid ending the stream in Studio
For an encoder broadcast, keep the encoder sending content for as long as the YouTube live stream needs to continue. Do not click End Stream during that period. YouTube’s encoder instructions say that ending a scheduled encoder stream involves clicking End Stream and stopping the encoder output: Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder.

Test the change before relying on it
- Start the encoder and wait for the preview to appear in Live Control Room.
- Use YouTube’s Go live control after the preview appears, following its encoder workflow.
- Check the live preview and the viewer-facing watch page. Monitor both audio and video during a controlled test.
- Confirm the broadcast remains active for the period you need, then check the saved event settings again before the important stream.
YouTube recommends testing and monitoring a live stream. Its guidance is available in YouTube live streaming tips — Computer.
If it still stops, narrow down the trigger
- Note the exact end time. Record whether it stops precisely at the scheduled event’s end or at another point.
- Check encoder status and logs. Look for a stopped output or other status change at that time.
- Check Live Control Room. Compare its status with the encoder’s status to see whether the encoder stopped sending or Studio shows the stream as ended.
- Recheck the event’s settings. Verify Auto-stop on the specific scheduled stream, especially if settings were reused.
- Distinguish a live broadcast from its archive. YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. An available recording is not evidence that the live broadcast is still active; see Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder.
If these checks do not identify what ended the feed, the exact cause remains uncertain without the encoder and Live Control Room details. The reviewed YouTube documentation does not establish scheduled end time as a universal cause.
