For a typical prerecorded 1080p30 Hindi news replay, start with H.264 video at 10 Mbps CBR, a two-second keyframe interval, progressive 1920×1080 video in 8-bit SDR Rec. 709, and stereo AAC audio at 128 kbps and 44.1 kHz. Use RTMPS to send the stream to YouTube. These are platform recommendations and a practical starting point—not a guarantee that a particular file, FFmpeg build, or connection will stream cleanly.

Recommended settings for a 1080p replay

Hindi audio or captions do not call for a special video bitrate in YouTube’s published live-encoding guidance. Choose settings according to the video’s actual frame rate and codec instead. For H.264, YouTube recommends 10 Mbps at 1080p30 and 12 Mbps at 1080p60; its listed minimums are 5 Mbps and 6 Mbps, respectively. The minimum is not the recommended target.

Setting Starting choice How to apply it
Delivery protocol RTMPS Use the RTMPS stream URL and key shown in YouTube Live Control Room.
Video codec H.264 In FFmpeg, use libx264 if your build includes it.
Resolution and scan 1920×1080 progressive Scale only if needed; avoid unintended aspect-ratio distortion.
Frame rate Keep the source cadence where feasible Do not convert 25 or 30 fps footage to 60 fps without a production reason.
H.264 video bitrate 10 Mbps at 1080p30; 12 Mbps at 1080p60 YouTube’s recommended live rates. The listed minimums are 5 Mbps and 6 Mbps, respectively.
Rate control CBR YouTube lists constant bitrate for live encoding.
Keyframes Every 2 seconds; no more than 4 seconds apart At 30 fps, use a 60-frame GOP; at 60 fps, use 120 frames.
SDR color Rec. 709, 8-bit; square pixels These are YouTube’s recommended advanced settings for SDR.
Stereo audio AAC, 128 kbps, 44.1 kHz YouTube also permits MP3 audio for RTMP/RTMPS.

These values reflect YouTube’s live encoder settings guidance (accessed 2026). YouTube lists other recommendations for AV1 and H.265; use the row for the codec you actually send rather than carrying H.264 figures over to another codec. The title does not establish whether a particular news replay is 25, 30, 50, or 60 fps. YouTube’s cited 1080p table specifies 30 and 60 fps, so treat a 25 fps workflow as a deliberate choice and verify the detected ingest in Live Control Room rather than calling it an official listed rate.

FFmpeg command for a 1080p30 H.264 replay

This command is an illustrative starting point for a 30 fps file with stereo audio. It has not been tested across FFmpeg builds; confirm your installed build supports libx264 and validate the output in YouTube.

ffmpeg -re -i replay.mp4
  -vf "scale=1920:1080,fps=30"
  -c:v libx264 -pix_fmt yuv420p
  -b:v 10M -minrate 10M -maxrate 10M -bufsize 20M
  -g 60 -keyint_min 60 -sc_threshold 0
  -c:a aac -b:a 128k -ar 44100
  -f flv 'rtmps://<YouTube-ingest-url>/<stream-key>'

Replace the output placeholder with the RTMPS URL and stream key from YouTube Live Control Room. The video filter forces 1920×1080 at 30 fps; use it only when that conversion is intended. If the source is already 1080p30, avoid unnecessary scaling or frame-rate conversion by adapting the filter to preserve its properties. Keep the 60-frame GOP for 30 fps. For 1080p60, set the output cadence to 60 fps, use a 120-frame GOP and YouTube’s 12 Mbps H.264 recommendation.

FFmpeg documents -b:v as the video bitrate setting and documents GOP controls; YouTube recommends CBR and a two-second keyframe interval. The listed flags express that target, but do not guarantee strict constant-rate output on every encoder build. Check the stream health monitor after starting. See the FFmpeg command documentation and libx264 options for options supported by your build.

Prepare, start, and validate the broadcast

  1. Create or select the live stream. In YouTube Live Control Room, create or select the event and copy its stream URL and key into the FFmpeg output. Treat the key like a password; do not publish it or include it in a command shared publicly. YouTube’s encoder setup guidance explains where to find the connection details.
  2. Check upload capacity. Run a speed test and choose a setting your connection can sustain. YouTube recommends testing before going live and matching encoder settings to the available connection; a speed test alone cannot guarantee an uninterrupted broadcast. See its encoder settings guidance.
  3. Test representative content. Run a private or otherwise appropriate test with moving footage and the actual audio mix. A static slate will not expose every motion or sound problem. Watch YouTube’s stream health messages during the test and event.
  4. Verify the ingest. Confirm that Live Control Room detects the intended resolution and frame rate. YouTube transcodes live streams into multiple output formats for different viewer devices and networks; the encoder should still send a stable, correctly configured source. See YouTube’s live streaming overview.
  5. Choose latency for the program. Set the stream latency in Live Control Room according to how much real-time audience interaction matters. YouTube cautions that lower latency can increase playback buffering. DVR can let viewers pause and resume a live stream; consult the Live Control Room guidance for the available controls.

Common problems and fixes

  • YouTube reports unstable stream health: Check sustained upload capacity, lower the target only if necessary, and retest with representative video and audio. A recommended bitrate cannot compensate for an unreliable connection.
  • The stream appears at the wrong frame rate: Inspect the source and the FFmpeg filter. Remove an unintended fps=30 conversion or set a deliberate output rate, then verify the detected ingest in Live Control Room. Do not describe 25 fps as a listed YouTube recommendation based on the cited 30/60 fps table.
  • FFmpeg cannot find libx264: The installed build may not include that encoder. Check the build’s available encoders and install or use a build that includes libx264 if you intend to follow this H.264 command.
  • The picture looks stretched or incorrectly framed: Check the input dimensions and aspect ratio before forcing 1920×1080. Scaling to those exact dimensions can distort footage whose shape differs; use an aspect-ratio-preserving workflow where needed.
  • Audio is absent or sounds wrong: Confirm the input contains the expected audio track and that FFmpeg maps and encodes it. Check the stream’s audio in a representative test before the event.
  • YouTube detects a different resolution or codec: Review the encoder output settings and stream health messages, then confirm the actual ingest in Live Control Room. Do not assume the command line alone proves what reached YouTube.

Copyright, replay rights, and YouTube policies

Encoding settings do not grant permission to rebroadcast a news program. Before streaming a replay, confirm you have the necessary rights to the video, audio, graphics, and any third-party clips or music. YouTube may apply its copyright processes to live content, so a technically valid RTMPS feed is not a clearance check. Also consider YouTube’s rules for monetization and reused content separately; merely looping or re-encoding material does not establish that a channel meets those rules. Review the applicable copyright guidance, channel monetization policies, and live streaming restrictions before scheduling a replay.

Or let it run in the cloud

If your goal is a continuous YouTube replay rather than learning or controlling the FFmpeg pipeline, StreamNeo is a cloud option: upload the recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. The cloud keeps the stream running without leaving a computer or home connection on. It streams the uploaded video as made, up to 4K 60fps, at one price per slot regardless of quality; it also automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. Monthly pricing is $9.99 per month. Start the free day on StreamNeo.

Cost and operating trade-offs

FFmpeg itself provides the encode-and-send workflow, but a computer and network connection must remain available while it runs. A cloud service shifts that always-on responsibility away from your home setup. Compare the cost of keeping suitable hardware and a reliable connection active with the convenience of a managed cloud slot; requirements and costs for a particular self-hosted setup depend on equipment and connection, and are not established by the settings guidance cited here.
