How to Use XSplit Broadcaster as a Webcam

Use XSplit Broadcaster as a webcam by adding your camera to a scene and selecting XSplit Broadcaster in your meeting app. Set a specific scene, configure audio and check Windows requirements.
Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

To use XSplit Broadcaster as a webcam, add your camera to a scene in Broadcaster, then choose XSplit Broadcaster as the camera in your video-call app. You can send the current Live Scene or select a particular scene through Playout → Virtual Camera. This works with a built-in or connected camera; a separate webcam is not required if you already have one that suits your needs.

Set up XSplit as your camera

  1. Add your camera: In XSplit Broadcaster, choose Add Source → Camera / Capture Card, then select the connected webcam or other camera.
  2. Build the scene: Arrange the camera in the scene. Add other sources or visuals if you want them included in the video-call feed.
  3. Select XSplit in your call app: Open the app’s video or camera settings and choose XSplit Broadcaster as the camera. XSplit lists Google Meet, Zoom, Microsoft Teams and Discord as example apps; the precise setting location varies and can change with app updates.

With the current Live Scene selected, its output is sent to the virtual camera. To send a different scene, use Playout → Virtual Camera and choose the scene you want.

Choose the camera and scene you need

Use an existing camera

A built-in laptop camera or a USB-connected webcam can be added as a camera source. You do not need to buy a separate webcam for the basic setup if your existing camera works for your calls. An external camera is optional if you need different image quality or do not have a usable camera.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Include a background or other visuals

You can add a Background source for replacement imagery and arrange it with the camera and any other scene sources. For automatic background removal, open Camera Source Settings → Background Removal. XSplit’s support guide describes quality and hardware-acceleration options; the available controls can depend on your setup.

  • The built-in noise-reducing mic makes sure your voice comes across clearly up to 1.5 meters away, even if you’re in busy surroundings.
  • C270’s RightLight 2 feature adjusts to lighting conditions, producing brighter, contrasted images to help you look good in all your conference calls.
  • The adjustable universal clip lets you attach the camera securely to your screen or laptop, or fold the clip and set the webcam on a shelf. You’re always ready for your next video call.

Check camera controls if the image looks wrong

Depending on the camera, Broadcaster may expose video size, frame rate, brightness, gain, contrast, zoom, tilt, focus and saturation controls. If lighting changes make the image flicker, XSplit recommends disabling auto-white balance or auto-exposure in the camera controls.

Set resolution and audio separately

Resolution

The virtual camera uses Broadcaster’s current canvas resolution, up to 1080p. Your meeting app may impose a lower limit or downscale the feed, so a 1080p canvas does not guarantee that every participant receives 1080p video.

Scene audio and microphone

If you want the meeting to receive audio from Broadcaster, select XSplit Audio (Broadcaster) as the microphone in the call app. Microphone setup inside Broadcaster depends on its audio capture mode:

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  • Presentation Sources mode: Add the microphone or headset as an Audio Device source, or set it as a Global Recording Device in the Audio Mixer.
  • System Devices mode: Configure the default microphone in Audio Settings. Adding that same microphone a second time can cause echo.

Understand preview mirroring

XSplit explains that Google Meet mirrors the local preview by default while participants see the video in the correct orientation. That behavior is specific to Google Meet; do not assume every conferencing app mirrors its preview or sends video the same way.

Check Windows requirements and license limits

XSplit’s current support documentation lists Broadcaster as Windows-only and specifies Windows 10/11 64-bit, a minimum 2nd Generation Core i5 or equivalent processor, 8 GB RAM, a GeForce- or Radeon-class graphics card supporting DirectX 10.1 or better, 250 MB of available storage, and broadband internet. These are vendor requirements, not independent performance measurements. XSplit says Windows 8.1 and earlier are no longer supported by the current Broadcaster version.

XSplit’s FAQ says the free license includes a watermarked virtual-camera feature and lists other free-tier restrictions. Check XSplit’s current license comparison for the terms that apply to your account before relying on a particular feature or deciding whether you need a paid license.

Troubleshoot common problems

  • XSplit does not appear in the call app’s camera list: Confirm Broadcaster is open and the virtual camera is available, then reopen the app’s camera settings and check again. Menu names and behavior vary across conferencing apps.
  • The wrong scene appears: Select the intended scene through Playout → Virtual Camera, or make it the current Live Scene.
  • The meeting receives no microphone audio: Check that the call app uses XSplit Audio (Broadcaster) and that the microphone is configured for Broadcaster’s selected audio capture mode.
  • You hear an echo: In System Devices mode, avoid adding the default microphone again as another input; XSplit warns that duplicate microphone capture can cause echo.
  • The video looks soft or lower-resolution than expected: Check the Broadcaster canvas resolution and the call app’s video settings. The app may cap or downscale the virtual-camera feed.
  • The image changes or flickers as lighting shifts: If the camera exposes them, try disabling auto-white balance or auto-exposure in its controls.

Or let it run in the cloud
