Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsIf replacing an OBS profile removed your YouTube stream settings, first check whether the old profile or a JSON backup is available. If not, open YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room and copy the current stream key into OBS. Reset the key only if you want a new one or believe the old one may be compromised; then update OBS with the newly generated key.
First, check whether OBS still has the old profile
A stream key is an encoder credential, not your video, scenes, or overlays. OBS profiles store streaming configuration, including account connection information, so replacing a profile can leave the active profile without the settings you used before. That does not necessarily mean YouTube erased the key.

- Check the Profile menu: In OBS, open Profile and look for another profile that may contain the previous stream setup. Select it, then open Settings > Stream and check whether the YouTube account connection or stream key is present.
- Import a backup if you have one: OBS profiles can be exported and imported as JSON. If you previously exported the old profile, use OBS’s profile import option and inspect Settings > Stream afterward.
- Keep profiles distinct from scenes: OBS stores scenes in separate Scene Collections. Importing a profile can restore stream configuration, but it does not restore scenes.
If the old profile or its backup is available, it may restore the same configuration. If not, retrieve the current key from YouTube instead.

Find or reset the YouTube stream key
Copy the current key to keep the existing setup
- Open YouTube Studio and select Create > Go Live.
- In Live Control Room, choose Stream.
- Copy the current stream key. YouTube describes stream keys as “like your YouTube stream’s password and address.” Treat the value as a credential and do not share it publicly.
- In OBS, open Settings > Stream. If your setup uses a manually entered key, select the appropriate YouTube service, then paste the current key into the stream key field and apply the settings.
Copying the current key restores the encoder configuration without changing the credential in YouTube.

Reset the key if you need a new one
- In YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room, go to the stream settings and select Reset beside the hidden stream key.
- Copy the newly generated key.
- In OBS, open Settings > Stream and replace the old key with the new one, then apply the settings.
Resetting generates a different key, so OBS must be updated before you try to stream. YouTube says only a channel owner or manager can reset a key. If you are an editor or viewer, ask an owner or manager to do it.
If OBS was connected to your YouTube account
Not every OBS setup uses a manually pasted key. If you connected your YouTube account in OBS, open Settings > Stream and check the account connection. Reconnect or select the correct connected account if the replacement profile no longer has it. OBS profiles can store connected-account information as well as other stream settings.

Verify the restored settings before going live
- In OBS Settings > Stream, confirm the service and server or stream URL are correct for your setup, along with the account connection or key.
- Start the encoder in OBS.
- Wait for the stream preview to appear in YouTube Live Control Room, then confirm the stream there before proceeding live.
If YouTube does not detect the encoder, check that OBS has the current key from Live Control Room. If you reset the key, make sure OBS has the newly generated value rather than the old one.
