An increasing OBS network dropped-frame counter means the stream is having trouble reaching YouTube’s ingest server, or the connection cannot sustain the configured bitrate. It does not, by itself, prove that evening congestion in India is the cause. Check OBS counters, YouTube stream health, and sustained upload performance during the affected period before changing VPS providers or blaming YouTube.
What OBS’s dropped-frame counter tells you
First identify which OBS counter is rising. Network dropped frames indicate a delivery problem between the streaming client and the remote ingest server; rendering lag and encoding lag point to different parts of the pipeline. OBS’s troubleshooting guide, published September 30, 2024, describes dropped frames or intermittent disconnections as a network issue between the computer and the remote stream ingest server: OBS network dropped-frame troubleshooting.

That diagnosis identifies the connection path as the place to investigate; it does not establish why the path is failing. The evidence available here does not measure this VPS, its Indian region or provider, the time of day, or its route to YouTube. Treat “evening network congestion” as a plausible explanation to test, not a confirmed cause.

Record OBS counters and timestamps
During an affected stream, note the exact times when network dropped frames rise, along with output bitrate and any rendering or encoding lag counters. Save the OBS log for the session. Make the same observations during a period when the stream is stable; comparison helps distinguish a recurring time-related pattern from a persistent capacity or configuration issue.

Check YouTube’s stream health at matching times
In YouTube Live Control Room, review stream-health warnings and match their timestamps to the OBS record. YouTube’s Live Streaming API identifies health or configuration issue categories including bitrate, frame rate, codec, keyframe frequency, audio, and video. One example reports that YouTube is not receiving enough video for smooth streaming. These warnings are useful corroboration, but a configuration alert does not by itself prove network congestion. See YouTube Live Streaming API: liveStreams.
Test sustained upload with a representative stream
YouTube recommends testing upload bitrate with a speed test and running a preflight stream with conditions similar to the real broadcast, including motion and audio. A brief speed test or a quiet test video cannot establish that the VPS-to-ingest route will remain stable through the evening. Test from the VPS, at a representative time, and monitor both OBS and YouTube stream health. YouTube’s encoder guidance is at YouTube Help: encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions.

Reduce bitrate only when the evidence supports it
If measurements show that the connection cannot consistently deliver the configured bitrate, reduce the target bitrate and run another representative test. This may improve delivery, but it trades away video quality and does not identify or repair the underlying path problem.
OBS also offers dynamic bitrate, which can lower bitrate when the connection cannot keep up. OBS warns that this is a workaround, not a fix for the root cause, and may reduce quality. Use it as a mitigation while investigating the connection, not as proof that congestion has been resolved. Details are in the OBS dynamic bitrate guide.

Compare routes before changing VPS providers
If the issue continues, compare repeated measurements from affected and unaffected periods. Where possible, test different ingest destinations or hosting routes, while keeping the stream settings and test content consistent. Useful comparison points are sustained upload capacity during the evening window, packet loss or jitter on the route to the selected ingest, YouTube stream-health results, and the video quality achieved at the chosen bitrate.
No particular Indian VPS provider or ingest endpoint is established as the cause or remedy here, so provider rankings would be speculative without comparable measurements. Likewise, a cable or adapter cannot be assumed to help: the stream originates on the VPS, and the cited diagnostics focus on software counters, upload testing, and platform health messages.

Troubleshooting: symptom, interpretation, next step
| What you observe | What it indicates—and what it does not | Next step |
|---|---|---|
| OBS network dropped frames rise during the stream | Delivery between the streaming client and ingest server is impaired or cannot sustain the configured bitrate; this alone does not identify congestion as the cause. | Record timestamps, output bitrate, OBS log, and matching YouTube health status; test sustained upload from the VPS. |
| Rendering or encoding lag rises instead | This is not the same signal as network dropped frames. | Keep the counters separate in your diagnosis; do not label every OBS frame problem a network failure. |
| YouTube reports a bitrate, frame-rate, codec, keyframe, audio, or video issue | The alert identifies a stream-health or configuration concern, but does not by itself prove evening network congestion. | Match the warning’s timestamp to OBS logs and verify the relevant encoder settings against YouTube’s guidance. |
| A speed test looks good, but the evening stream still drops frames | A short test does not establish stable delivery to YouTube’s ingest throughout the affected period. | Run a representative test stream during the evening window and monitor its health over time. |
| Lower bitrate or dynamic bitrate reduces drops | The connection may have been unable to sustain the prior target; the change does not establish or fix the underlying cause. | Retest and assess the quality trade-off while continuing to compare route and time-based measurements. |
Or let it run in the cloud
If your goal is to keep uploaded videos looping as a 24/7 YouTube stream, StreamNeo is a cloud option: upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. Nothing has to stay on at home; videos stream as uploaded at any quality up to 4K 60fps for one flat price per slot; and StreamNeo automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream.
