Repair common Windows errors and clear accumulated junk for a smoother, more stable PC - no reinstall needed.Free scan · no reinstallIf your YouTube 24/7 stream stopped around the time your cloud VM host migrated, first check whether the VM rebooted, whether the encoder process stopped or lost its connection, and what timestamped error YouTube shows in Live Control Room. The timing alone does not prove the migration caused the disconnect. Compare the VM event, encoder logs and YouTube ingest status before changing your stream key or blaming the host.
What to check first
A YouTube encoder sends its feed to YouTube using a stream URL and stream key. A host event can interrupt that path in different ways: the VM may stop or restart, the encoder may exit, or the encoder may remain up but fail to reconnect or send data. YouTube’s status and errors help distinguish those cases.

- Note the time and host action. Record the provider, VM or instance type, event time, maintenance action and maintenance policy. Check uptime or boot records to see whether the VM actually restarted.
- Check the encoder process and logs. Look around the event time for a process exit, network interruption, reconnect attempt or resumed data transmission. Determine whether the encoder kept running and whether it began sending again.
- Inspect YouTube Live Control Room. Check stream health and the timestamped error list, then compare its times with the VM and encoder records. YouTube says its dashboard and Live Control Room check the incoming stream for errors and classify observed errors by severity.
- Verify the encoder’s destination and credentials. Confirm that the encoder uses the intended stream URL and the matching stream key in YouTube. Do not reset the key simply because a migration occurred.
- Make recovery unattended. Configure the encoder to start after a VM reboot and reconnect after temporary network loss. Add monitoring that alerts you if the encoder process or YouTube ingest feed goes down.
How to interpret the evidence
The VM stopped or rebooted
A boot record or host event showing a stop or restart makes a host interruption plausible, but it does not establish that the host event alone explains the full outage. Check whether the encoder started after boot and whether it resumed sending. Host maintenance behavior depends on the cloud provider, VM type and configuration.
The VM stayed up, but the encoder stopped
If the VM did not reboot but the encoder process exited, inspect its logs and service or process-supervisor status for the exit and any failed restart. For unattended streams, recovery should not depend on someone logging in and manually launching the encoder.
#1 Best Overall
The encoder stayed up, but YouTube stopped receiving a healthy feed
Look for network errors, failed reconnects and YouTube’s timestamped ingest errors. Correct an explicit format or ingest error before changing unrelated settings. YouTube’s listed incorrect-format error requires H.264 video and AAC audio.
The available records do not line up
Preserve the timestamps and gather more evidence before assigning a cause. The title’s sequence—migration, then disconnect—does not establish whether the VM, encoder, network path or ingest feed failed first.

What Compute Engine host migration does—and does not—tell you
Google Cloud Compute Engine documents a typical minimum disruption time of much less than one second during live migration for supported VMs configured to migrate. That figure is not a guarantee for every VM, every maintenance event or another cloud provider. Some instance types or configurations stop and optionally restart instead. Check the VM’s maintenance policy and host-event record to learn which behavior applied.

Do not infer a general failure rate or a guaranteed recovery time from this documentation. It does not establish how often YouTube 24/7 encoder streams disconnect after host migration.

Check stream settings before rotating the key
YouTube describes stream keys as the stream’s password and address. Confirm the key and stream URL in both Live Control Room and the encoder. YouTube’s troubleshooting guidance includes copying the key from Live Control Room into third-party encoder software when addressing encoder startup errors. Reset a key only when the observed problem points to the key or you need to replace it; after a reset, update the encoder to use the new key.
If Live Control Room reports a specific format problem, fix the encoder output to meet YouTube’s stated requirements for that error—H.264 video and AAC audio—rather than rotating credentials.
Keep a 24/7 stream recoverable
- Set the encoder or its service manager to start automatically after VM boot.
- Ensure the encoder retries after a transient network loss and resumes sending.
- Monitor both the encoder process and the YouTube ingest feed; a running process alone does not prove YouTube is receiving a healthy stream.
- Keep event, process and ingest timestamps so a later interruption can be diagnosed across all three layers.
These are operational safeguards based on the dependencies of the VM and encoder workflow; they are not claims that a particular supervisor or monitoring product has been tested here.

Google Cloud Live Stream API documents an optional backup-input feature: when configured, it can switch from a disconnected primary input to a backup input and back after the primary returns. That feature belongs to the Live Stream API’s channel-input workflow; it is not a general automatic-failover guarantee for a self-managed encoder sending to YouTube. The API documentation also describes a 24-hour channel-session limit in a qualifying streaming state. That limit applies to the API, not to a YouTube encoder session.

Or let it run in the cloud
If you do not want a home computer or VM to be responsible for keeping uploaded videos live, StreamNeo runs a YouTube stream from the cloud: upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. Nothing has to stay on at home. Each slot streams uploaded video at its original quality up to 4K 60fps for one flat price per slot, and StreamNeo automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. Monthly is $9.99 per month.
