YouTube Premiere is for gathering viewers around one scheduled video; it does not keep a music channel playing around the clock. For continuous prerecorded music, use a cloud playout service or run a live encoder such as OBS on a dedicated computer. The right choice depends on whether you want unattended playback, multiple destinations, or hands-on control.
Premiere and a continuous stream do different jobs
YouTube describes a Premiere as a way to watch a new video with its creator and community in real time. It creates a scheduled shared viewing event around one uploaded video: viewers can visit the watch page beforehand, set reminders, and chat during the event. When it ends, the video remains on the channel as a regular upload.

A continuous music channel instead needs a live playout workflow that keeps sending video and audio to YouTube. A Premiere can help promote a release or host a listening event, but it is not an always-on broadcast.

2. Upstream: another cloud-playout option
Upstream describes 24/7 playlist playout, including audio over visual loops and output to multiple services. That may suit a creator who wants a playlist-based cloud workflow with more than one destination. Those are vendor claims, not independent reliability tests; confirm current supported destinations, playlist features, limits, and plan terms with Upstream before choosing it.
Run the stream yourself with OBS
OBS is a no-charge, open-source local option identified in the available comparison. It can make sense if you want direct control and are prepared to operate the equipment. Unlike cloud playout, this setup depends on your own computer, power, and internet connection; maintenance or a local outage can interrupt the broadcast.

- Check YouTube access. The channel must be verified and must not have a live-streaming restriction in the previous 90 days. YouTube’s stated limits are 10 active streams per channel and three streams per stream key; check YouTube Help for the current rules because these limits can change.
- Prepare the programming. Make a continuous video file or a playlist of audio and visuals that you have the rights to broadcast. Check that the sequence loops as intended and that audio levels are consistent before going live.
- Connect OBS to YouTube. In YouTube Studio, create or schedule a live stream and copy its stream key. In OBS, open Settings > Stream, select YouTube as the service, and enter the key or connect an account if that option is available in your OBS version. Treat the key like a password: anyone who obtains it may be able to broadcast to your stream.
- Set up the output. Add the prepared video or media sources to an OBS scene, and configure the stream output to match the source and YouTube’s current recommendations. Test the stream privately or unlisted first, checking picture, sound, and stability before making it public. No particular bitrate or resolution is prescribed here: appropriate settings depend on the source, connection, and YouTube’s current encoder guidance.
- Keep the system running. Leave OBS open on a computer with reliable power and internet for the duration. Prevent sleep, install updates outside the broadcast window, and have a plan to restart the stream if the software, computer, or connection fails.
Or let it run in the cloud
Upload your video or build a playlist, add the YouTube stream key, and go live with StreamNeo. Nothing has to stay on at home; uploads stream at their original quality up to 4K 60fps for one flat price per slot; and the service automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card, and the Monthly plan is $9.99 per month. Start your free day on StreamNeo.
When a multistream relay is not enough
Restream is more relevant when you need to distribute a produced stream to multiple services or schedule a prerecorded broadcast than when you need proven unattended, unlimited 24/7 playout. Its Help Center says servers may restart for maintenance after a stream has run more than 24 hours and recommends restarting every 24 hours. Its comparison page describes looping a prerecorded video of up to four hours as many as ten times, for up to 40 hours total. That is a finite loop, not evidence of an uninterrupted 24/7 service.

Mixcloud’s help page lists software options for going live, including Restream, XSplit, Streamlabs OBS, Wirecast, vMix, and Lightstream. That list does not establish that Mixcloud supports unattended, continuous playlist operation; check its current requirements if it is your intended destination.
Choose by operating needs, not just the word “live”
| Option | Where playback runs | Workflow and destinations | Duration, recovery, and limits |
|---|---|---|---|
| StreamNeo | Cloud | Uploaded videos and playlists; YouTube only | Always-on stream with automatic recovery if YouTube drops it; plan limits should be checked on the service page. |
| Upstream | Cloud, according to its vendor page | Vendor describes 24/7 playlists, audio over visual loops, and multiple-service output | Current destinations, limits, and recovery details are not established here; confirm with the provider. |
| OBS | Your computer | Local encoding and playback; destinations depend on stream setup | Depends on your machine, power, network, and operation; no unattended recovery is established here. |
| Restream | Relay service for a produced stream | Multistreaming and scheduled prerecorded broadcasts | Restream warns of possible maintenance restarts after more than 24 hours; its described prerecorded loop is up to 40 hours. |
- Need playback to continue while your computer is off? Choose a cloud playout service and verify its destination and recovery details.
- Need to avoid a recurring cloud service and can manage a machine? OBS offers local control, but you own power, connectivity, and restarts.
- Need several destinations? Check each provider’s current destination list; a relay that distributes a stream is not automatically a continuous playlist player.
- Need a recording afterward? Plan a separate archive rather than assuming YouTube will preserve an exceptionally long stream.
- Need current plan limits? Provider features and terms can change; confirm them directly before building a schedule around them.
Plan for YouTube archives and music rights
Do not rely on YouTube to archive a very long stream
YouTube Help says, “If your live stream is less than 12 hours, YouTube can automatically archive it for you.” A stream longer than 12 hours may not be captured at all. If the recording matters, keep a local archive backup and test the recording workflow before relying on it.

Streaming software does not grant music rights
YouTube’s terms say the provider warrants it has the necessary rights to exploit live content on Google services worldwide, including music licensing rights from artists, record labels, publishers (including public performance licenses), and other royalty participants. A song being available online, or included in a playlist, does not itself establish that you may rebroadcast it. Secure the permissions needed for your territory and use before putting music on a live stream.
