If YouTube live streaming is disabled on a channel created with a school account, the school’s Google Workspace for Education age designation may be the cause. If you are 18 or older, contact the school administrator and ask them to review whether your account is marked over 18. After the change, sign in again and complete YouTube’s channel-creation workflow. If that setting is already correct, check the channel’s verification and restriction notices.
Why a school account can lose YouTube channel and live-stream access
A school-issued Google Workspace for Education account is managed by the school. YouTube says that when a school administrator marks an account holder as under 18, the school YouTube account moves to a limited version of YouTube; access to channel features, including live streaming, may be removed. See YouTube’s guidance on changes to school accounts.

This is an account designation managed by the school, not a setting you can necessarily change in YouTube Studio. It is also separate from whether YouTube viewing is unrestricted for a particular school user.

1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsIf you are 18 or older: ask the school administrator to review the account
- Contact your school administrator or IT help desk. Explain that YouTube’s school-account guidance says an adult whose school account is marked under 18 should ask the administrator to mark it over 18.
- Ask them to review the age designation on your Google Workspace for Education account and any settings that apply to your user, organizational unit, or configuration group.
- Wait for the administrator to confirm that the account has been updated. Then sign in to YouTube with the school account and complete the channel-creation workflow.
- If live streaming remains unavailable, check YouTube Studio and the account for a specific eligibility or restriction notice. The age designation is not the only possible cause.
YouTube says this school-account change does not affect your personal Google account. If you already have a separate personal YouTube account, check its status independently rather than assuming the school setting applies to it.

If you are under 18
YouTube’s school-account guidance describes restricted channel and live-stream features for school accounts designated under 18; it does not give underage users the same over-18 correction route. Follow your school’s policy, and do not misstate your age or use another channel to evade a live-stream restriction.
What the administrator should check
Google Workspace administrators can manage YouTube settings for selected users through organizational units or configuration groups. Google’s instructions place the “Unrestricted YouTube access” control at Admin console > Apps > Additional Google Services > YouTube > Permissions. Changing this permission requires the Service Settings administrator privilege. Group settings override organizational-unit settings.

That control is about access to view YouTube content; it is not the same as correcting an under-18 age designation. Google also states that under-18 users in Education accounts cannot access content marked 18+, even with unrestricted YouTube access. The administrator should check the account’s age designation and applicable settings separately. See Google Workspace for Education YouTube settings.

If the school age designation is already correct, check YouTube’s other requirements
YouTube’s baseline live-stream requirements include a verified channel, no live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days, and a streamer who is at least 16 years old. The 90-day period is YouTube’s eligibility lookback, not a promise that a restriction will automatically clear on a particular date. Check the notice on the affected channel and YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility guidance.
Other possible causes include copyright or Community Guidelines enforcement, age requirements, channel conditions that disable features, or a daily live-streaming limit. The exact notice attached to the channel is more useful than assuming the school account is responsible. YouTube’s live-streaming restrictions guidance describes these categories.
- Channel not verified: Complete channel verification, then recheck live-stream access.
- Recent or active restriction: Review the enforcement notice and its stated duration or appeal information.
- Copyright or Community Guidelines issue: Follow the instructions associated with the specific notice; do not switch channels to work around an active live-stream restriction.
- Daily limit or channel feature issue: Read the account notice and follow its instructions rather than treating it as an age-setting problem.
Common mistakes to avoid
- Changing “Unrestricted YouTube access” and expecting it to fix age eligibility: viewing permissions and the school-account age designation are distinct controls.
- Assuming a personal account is affected: YouTube says the school-account change does not affect a personal account.
- Trying another channel to bypass a restriction: YouTube prohibits using another channel to evade an active live-stream restriction.
- Buying streaming equipment or installing streaming software: a webcam, encoder, or computer cannot alter a school-managed account designation or clear a YouTube restriction.
Or let it run in the cloud
Once your channel is eligible and you can stream, StreamNeo can keep uploaded videos looping as a YouTube live stream: upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. Nothing has to stay on at home; each slot streams your upload as made, up to 4K 60fps, at one flat price per slot; StreamNeo automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card, one free day per account. Monthly pricing is $9.99 per month. StreamNeo does not fix channel eligibility or account restrictions, and it streams uploaded videos rather than a live camera feed.
