If YouTube rejects your OBS stream key, open YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room, go to Stream, and replace the key in OBS with the current key for the intended stream. A failed connection is not always a bad key: the server URL, RTMPS settings, channel eligibility, or network can cause similar symptoms. These steps apply in India as well as elsewhere; the official guidance cited here does not establish a general India-wide block.
First identify what is failing
Note the exact OBS message and what happens in YouTube Studio. A rejected key or encoder startup error points first to the credential. An SSL message points to the protocol or server settings. A timeout, dropped frames, or intermittent disconnection points more strongly to the connection between OBS and YouTube’s ingest server. If OBS connects but the stream is not where you expect, check the selected stream and Live Control Room preview before resetting the key.

YouTube describes stream keys as being like a stream’s password and address: the key identifies where the encoder sends the feed and allows YouTube to accept it. Treat it as a private credential; do not post or share it.

- In YouTube Studio, open Go Live, then select the Stream tab in Live Control Room.
- Confirm you are working with the intended stream, then copy its current stream key.
- In OBS, open Settings → Stream. Select the YouTube service or preset if available, then replace the existing stream key with the copied value. If OBS is configured with a custom server, leave the server field for the URL check below rather than putting the key there.
- Apply the settings and start streaming from OBS. Check Live Control Room for the incoming signal and preview.
YouTube’s stream troubleshooting instructions recommend copying the key from Live Control Room into the encoder. If you reset the key there, the old value may no longer work: immediately replace the saved value in OBS with the newly generated key. Only a channel owner or manager can reset the key; editors and viewers do not have that permission.

Check the server URL and RTMPS settings
The key and server address are separate settings. A correct key sent to the wrong server—or sent using a protocol OBS cannot use—will still fail.
- In Live Control Room, check the server URL shown for the stream. In OBS, use the YouTube preset where available, or enter that URL in the server field and the key in the separate stream-key field.
- If YouTube’s settings call for RTMPS, use the RTMPS URL rather than substituting a generic RTMP address from an unrelated guide. Confirm that your OBS version supports RTMPS.
- For an SSL certificate error or connection timeout, verify the URL and protocol against YouTube’s current values. YouTube’s RTMPS troubleshooting guidance also mentions port 443 as a possible explicit setting where appropriate.
Do not repeatedly reset a key when the error points to SSL, the server URL, or a timeout. YouTube’s encoder setup instructions explain the encoder setup and eligibility requirements.

Confirm the channel can livestream
A stream key cannot overcome a channel restriction. YouTube says a channel must be verified and must have had no live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days to livestream. Check the channel selected in Studio and confirm that live-streaming access is available before troubleshooting OBS further. If access is restricted, resolve the account issue shown by YouTube rather than generating keys repeatedly.

Update OBS and separate encoder problems from network problems
YouTube recommends using the newest encoder version. Update OBS, then check whether its local output looks and sounds healthy and whether the encoder reports errors or unusually high CPU load. If the local output is not healthy, address the encoder or computer load before diagnosing the ISP. If local output is healthy but the stream times out, disconnects, or drops frames, move on to the network.

For connection symptoms, test outbound stability and, if feasible, try the same setup on another network. Temporarily comparing networks can help distinguish a local router, firewall, or ISP route issue from a credential issue. Review firewall and antivirus rules that could interfere with OBS connecting to the ingest server. OBS’s Stream Connection Troubleshooting, published 2024-09-30, describes dropped frames and intermittent disconnections as a network issue between the computer and the remote ingest server, and notes that security software can interfere. OBS also says such connection problems are typically outside OBS’s control.
What the India-specific evidence does—and does not—show
The official YouTube and OBS guidance cited above is general troubleshooting guidance; it does not document a current India-wide block on YouTube Live. That does not rule out an individual ISP routing fault, an enterprise firewall, or a temporary regional service incident. Establish whether the problem follows the network by testing another connection where possible, and check current service status before attributing a failure to geography.
