For a prepared ASMR recording that needs to loop on YouTube, a low-cost Linux VPS running headless FFmpeg is usually the leanest do-it-yourself option. There is no evidence here for one universally best VPS provider: the right plan depends on your server region, CPU allocation, storage, monthly outbound transfer, and how reliably you can supervise and restart the stream. What makes a VPS suitable for a continuous ASMR stream?
A VPS is a rented server that stays online in a provider’s data center. With a prepared recording and headless FFmpeg, it can send a repeating video-and-audio file to YouTube without a home computer running. This is a different workload from producing a live show with OBS scenes, overlays, and frequent changes.

For a static FFmpeg loop, Space-Node’s 2026 provider-authored guide suggests 2 vCPU and 2–4 GB RAM as a starting point. This is guidance, not an independently tested minimum or a guarantee for your file and settings. If you plan to use OBS, Vultr’s 2025 Ubuntu guide specifies at least 2 vCPUs, 4 GB RAM, 80 GB storage, and 3 TB bandwidth for its example setup; those figures are not requirements for every headless FFmpeg stream. Choose resources based on what the server must actually do. If FFmpeg can send compatible, already encoded streams without re-encoding, the workload differs from transcoding, which requires additional CPU. The precise requirement depends on your source media and output settings; the cited guides do not independently benchmark a minimum for a 24/7 prerecorded ASMR stream. Hetzner describes shared-resource instances as intended for variable and low-to-medium CPU use, while its dedicated-vCPU instances are designed for sustained high CPU use. A continuously running stream is a reason to check those distinctions and current provider terms rather than assume that the cheapest shared plan will behave like dedicated CPU. How to estimate bandwidth and total VPS cost
For a continuous stream, outbound transfer can be as important as CPU. Estimate data from the combined audio-and-video bitrate you actually send and the hours you expect to stream; then compare that estimate with the provider’s included transfer, billing convention, and overage charges. Also check server-region availability, storage, and whether the plan’s network terms match your use.

Do not select a plan from a headline monthly price alone. The reviewed sources do not establish a current, independent total-cost comparison across VPS providers. Include any transfer overage, storage, and the time required to maintain your setup in your decision.
Prepare the YouTube stream and media
- Enable live streaming and create a stream in YouTube Studio. Follow YouTube’s current channel and Live Control Room workflow. - Protect the stream key. Treat it like a credential. Put it only in the encoder or service configuration that needs it; do not post it publicly or include it in a shared script or screenshot. If it is exposed, replace it through YouTube’s stream settings.
- Validate the recording before deploying it. Check that audio and video play correctly, that the loop point is acceptable, and that the file is accessible on the VPS. Decide whether FFmpeg can pass through compatible encoded streams or must transcode; the latter changes the CPU load.
- Use YouTube’s current encoder settings for the output. Confirm resolution, frame rate, bitrate, codec, and keyframe settings against YouTube’s current guidance for your chosen stream format. The available sources do not specify a single set of output values for every ASMR file and channel, so do not assume a setting is appropriate without checking it.
- Test the stream in Live Control Room. Confirm that YouTube receives the feed and review the preview and stream health before leaving it unattended. A successful FFmpeg process alone does not prove that the audience-facing stream is healthy.
Make the loop resilient to failures
A looping command by itself does not ensure continuity. A process can stop, the VPS can reboot, the network can fail, the source file can be damaged, or YouTube can drop the ingest connection. Configure a process supervisor to restart FFmpeg after a failure, retain logs, and monitor both the process and YouTube’s stream health. Plan how you will respond to an alert rather than assuming a restart fixes every cause.

Plan stream length, archives, and content rights
YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. For a continuous stream longer than 12 hours, do not assume it will produce one automatically archived replay; decide whether to run deliberate segments and verify YouTube’s current archive behavior before launch. YouTube encoder help
You are responsible for the rights to the ASMR recording and everything included in the broadcast, including background music, samples, and visuals. YouTube lists copyright strikes and matches to another copyrighted live broadcast among reasons live access may be restricted. A VPS, FFmpeg, or streaming service does not clear rights.
