To loop a Malayalam pre-recorded video on YouTube Live at 720p, add it to OBS Studio as a Media Source, enable Loop, set the output to 1280×720, and connect OBS to a YouTube encoder stream with its stream URL and key. For 720p30 H.264, YouTube lists 8 Mbps as the recommended video bitrate (3 Mbps minimum); use CBR and a 2-second keyframe interval. The loop is controlled in OBS—not by YouTube’s bitrate settings.
Set up a single Malayalam video to loop in OBS
- Create a scene and add the file. In OBS, add a Media Source and select your video file. Enable Loop in the source properties so playback restarts when it reaches the end. OBS documents this control in its Media Sources guide, dated January 11, 2022.
- Set the output resolution and frame rate. Open Settings → Video. Set Output (Scaled) Resolution to 1280×720. Set Common FPS Value to match the source where practical. Use 30 fps for typical 720p material unless the source or its motion calls for 60 fps and your computer can sustain it; OBS notes that 60 fps can require more system resources. - Configure streaming output. In Settings → Output → Streaming, choose H.264, set rate control to CBR, and set the keyframe interval to 2 seconds. YouTube supports H.264, H.265, and AV1 over RTMP/RTMPS and says the keyframe interval should not exceed 4 seconds. For ordinary stereo audio, use AAC or MP3; YouTube recommends 128 Kbps and 44.1 kHz stereo. Its live encoder settings page does not display a publication year; the figures here reflect the page accessed in 2026.
- Choose a video bitrate your connection can sustain. YouTube’s current recommendations are:

These are YouTube Help recommendations, not results of a named study. For a first setup, H.264 is the broadly supported choice. Do not set a bitrate your measured upload connection cannot sustain; leave bandwidth headroom for audio and normal network variation. YouTube’s encoder settings page also recommends CBR and a keyframe interval no longer than 4 seconds.

Connect OBS to YouTube Live
- In YouTube Studio → Create → Go live, open the Live Control Room and create or schedule an encoder stream. YouTube’s encoder setup instructions describe the stream setup flow.
- Choose RTMPS if your encoder supports it. Copy the stream URL and stream key from YouTube Studio into OBS’s stream settings. YouTube describes stream keys as credentials akin to a password and address; keep the key private. Its stream key guidance explains the available options.
- Keep YouTube’s default automatic resolution and frame-rate detection unless you need a fixed ingest format. YouTube says it automatically detects encoder settings. Manual selection is available by creating a custom stream key and enabling manual settings in the Live Control Room.
Loop a playlist instead of one file
For several Malayalam recordings, add a VLC Video source in OBS, add the files to its playlist, then enable Loop Playlist. VLC must be installed for this source to work. A playlist is useful when you want several recordings to play in sequence; the Media Source loop is the simpler choice for repeating one file.

Test the stream before relying on it
- Run a private or unlisted test stream and verify that the video restarts cleanly at the end. Check the end-to-start transition, picture, audio, and YouTube preview.
- Watch YouTube’s stream health indicators and error messages. Test with content that has similar movement and audio to the intended stream, rather than relying only on a static preview.
- Measure upload bandwidth and leave about 20% headroom, as recommended in YouTube’s live streaming tips. YouTube advises setting up the encoder at least two hours before an event and starting it at least 15 minutes beforehand.
- For a stream without audience interaction, lower latency may offer little benefit and can increase playback buffering. DVR lets viewers pause and rewind. Choose these options in the Live Control Room based on how you expect viewers to watch.
Common problems and fixes
The video plays once and stops
Check the OBS Media Source properties and enable Loop. YouTube’s bitrate and stream settings do not repeat a local file.

The stream buffers or loses health
Check the actual upload connection, reduce the video bitrate if it cannot be sustained, and leave bandwidth headroom. Confirm that OBS is using CBR and that no other upload is consuming the connection; then run another test and monitor YouTube’s health messages.
The output looks wrong or the ingest resolution changes
Confirm that OBS’s Output (Scaled) Resolution is 1280×720 and that the frame rate matches the intended output. If you require a fixed ingest resolution, use a custom YouTube stream key with manual settings; otherwise, YouTube recommends automatic detection.

There is no sound or the audio is inconsistent
Check the file’s audio track and OBS audio meters, then confirm the output uses a supported format such as AAC and the intended sample rate. For ordinary stereo, YouTube recommends 128 Kbps at 44.1 kHz.

The key does not connect, or the stream appears on the wrong event
Make sure the stream URL and key came from the same YouTube Studio encoder stream you intend to use. Treat the key like a password; if it may have been exposed, replace it in YouTube Studio and update OBS.

Check rights before looping Malayalam content
Technical setup does not establish permission to rebroadcast a video. Confirm that you have the necessary rights for the exact recording and every included element, including music, lyrics, translations, and other audio or visual works. YouTube’s encoder guidance covers the streaming setup, not whether a particular work is licensed. A successful technical test is not a rights clearance.
