If YouTube Live Redirect is missing, a destination does not appear, or viewers are not handed off when your stream ends, check five things in order: the sending channel’s eligibility, the receiving channel’s permissions, the destination’s availability, the redirect saved on the correct source item, and whether the source stream ended normally. A redirect is an autoplay handoff, not an instant forced transfer.
First identify where the redirect failed
- No Redirect option or unable to send: check the sending channel’s eligibility.
- The destination is missing from the list: check the receiving channel’s permission settings and whether the target is active, upcoming, or an upcoming Premiere.
- The redirect is configured, but viewers stay on the source: verify the selected destination and source item, then allow a brief player reload after the source ends.
- The source stream never went live: troubleshoot the live broadcast itself, not redirect permissions.

Check the sending channel’s eligibility
YouTube says a creator needs more than 1,000 subscribers and no Community Guidelines strikes to send a Live Redirect. This is a requirement for the sending channel; it does not mean the destination channel must also have more than 1,000 subscribers. If the option is unavailable, check these conditions before changing the receiver’s settings.

The receiving channel controls which channels may redirect viewers to its content. In that channel’s YouTube Studio, open Settings > Community and review the redirect permissions. YouTube documents three approaches:

- Subscribed channels: allow channels the receiving creator subscribes to. YouTube says this can depend on subscriptions being public; private subscriptions may prevent a channel from being discovered through this route.
- All channels: allow redirects from any channel. This option cannot be combined with the subscribed-channel setting or the manual approval list.
- Specific channels: manually approve channels. YouTube allows up to 100 channels in this list; specific approvals can be combined with the subscribed-channel option.
If the sender should be allowed but is not appearing through the subscription-based option, check whether the receiver’s subscriptions are public or add the sender using the manual approval controls. See YouTube’s Live Redirect help page for the current feature instructions.
Make sure the destination is eligible and available
A receiver can have the right permissions and still not appear if there is no eligible target. YouTube’s TeamYouTube explanation says selectable cross-channel destinations include active or upcoming live streams, and upcoming Premieres. An upcoming Premiere needs to be scheduled before you configure the source stream; YouTube lists this as a best practice.
If the target is absent, confirm that it is on YouTube, scheduled or live at the relevant time, and that the receiving channel’s permission rules allow the sending channel. Permission alone does not make an unavailable destination selectable.
Configure the redirect on the correct source item
- In YouTube Studio, open Content > Live.
- Edit the live video or Premiere that will send viewers.
- Open Customization, then find Redirect.
- Select Add and choose the eligible destination.
- Save or confirm the change in Studio, then verify that the redirect is attached to the intended source item.
Redirect setup belongs to the source item. A redirect saved on a different stream or Premiere will not configure the item you intend to end. YouTube’s feature guide documents the Studio path.

Allow for the autoplay handoff
YouTube describes the handoff this way: “Once your live stream ends, autoplay will move your viewers to the Premiere or live stream of your choice.” The player may reload before the destination begins, so tell viewers to wait a few seconds rather than expect an instantaneous transfer. YouTube’s stream-settings guidance gives an approximate two-second transition in its instructions, but this should be treated as a brief expected wait, not a guaranteed fixed duration. Check that the source was the item with the redirect configured and that it ended normally. If the source is still live, viewers have not yet reached the end-of-stream event that triggers the handoff.
If the source stream itself will not start
A stream-start failure is a separate problem from redirect permissions. First establish whether the source broadcast actually went live. If it did not, review YouTube’s live-stream restrictions. For third-party encoder errors, YouTube’s troubleshooting instructions direct creators to check the stream key and update the encoder. For a stream that is live but inaccessible to viewers, test access and monitor stream health using YouTube’s live-stream tips.
Resetting a stream key is not a documented fix for a missing redirect destination or a redirect-permission problem. Keep the diagnosis matched to the failure: broadcast health for a stream that will not start or cannot be viewed; redirect eligibility, receiver permissions and target availability for a failed handoff.

What to do if every check passes
A TeamYouTube post dated May 3, 2022 documented a temporary issue that had affected discovery of desired cross-channel streams and described manual approval as a workaround; it later said the subscriber-only option would return. That historical post is not evidence of a current outage. If the sender is eligible, the receiver’s settings allow it, the target is available, and the source is configured correctly but the target still does not appear, the official material does not identify an account-specific cause. Check current YouTube Help or Studio support rather than assuming the historical issue is happening again. Read the dated TeamYouTube post.
