For a 720p YouTube Live loop using OBS, start with H.264, CBR, a 2-second keyframe interval, progressive scan, and a bitrate between 3 and 8 Mbps. For a mostly static video, 720p at 30 fps is a sensible starting point; choose 60 fps when the footage has meaningful fast motion. Your upload connection must sustain the bitrate reliably, and the encoder settings alone do not determine whether a channel or loop format is eligible under YouTube’s policies.
Recommended OBS settings for 720p YouTube Live
YouTube’s live encoder settings recommend the following baseline for a 720p H.264 stream. The recommendations below are from YouTube’s live settings page, accessed in 2026; the page does not state a publication date.

| OBS setting | 720p starting point | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Video codec | H.264 | A straightforward baseline. YouTube also lists AV1 and H.265 options with different recommended bitrate ranges. |
| Resolution and frame rate | 1280 × 720 at 30 fps for a mostly static or slowly changing loop | This is a practical starting recommendation, not a YouTube requirement. Use 60 fps if the video contains meaningful fast motion. |
| Rate control | CBR | YouTube recommends constant bitrate for live encoding. |
| Video bitrate | 3–8 Mbps | YouTube’s recommended range for 720p H.264 at both 30 and 60 fps. Select a value your tested connection can sustain. |
| Keyframe interval | 2 seconds | YouTube recommends 2 seconds and says not to exceed 4 seconds. |
| Scan and audio | Progressive scan; AAC or MP3 audio | Use progressive video output. |
| Ingest protocol | RTMPS preferred | YouTube recommends RTMPS for encrypted delivery; RTMP is also listed. |
For 720p at 30 or 60 fps, YouTube lists 2–6 Mbps for AV1 or H.265. Codec availability depends on your encoder and setup. Do not choose a codec solely to use a lower bitrate: test the actual stream and confirm YouTube receives it correctly. YouTube live encoder settings

Choose a bitrate your India connection can sustain
The 3–8 Mbps figure is the recommended video bitrate range, not the total internet speed your household needs and not a guarantee of uninterrupted streaming. YouTube recommends leaving about 20% of upload capacity unused and testing outbound bandwidth. If other people or devices share the connection, the capacity available to OBS may be less than the plan’s advertised upload speed. YouTube streaming tips
As a planning example, a 4 Mbps video bitrate needs roughly 5 Mbps of sustained available upload capacity when allowing 20% headroom; overhead and competing use mean you should verify with an actual test rather than treating that arithmetic as a guarantee. Choose a lower bitrate within YouTube’s recommended range if your connection cannot reliably support the higher setting.

30 fps or 60 fps, and which latency setting?
Pick frame rate for the motion in the loop
For a still image, devotional artwork, or slowly changing visual, 720p30 is a reasonable starting configuration. Use 720p60 when fast motion is a visible part of the video and your encoder and connection can handle it. YouTube’s recommended H.264 bitrate range is 3–8 Mbps at either frame rate, so moving to 60 fps does not remove the need to test bandwidth and stability.
Choose latency based on interaction
If you plan to interact with viewers in real time, lower latency can help; YouTube notes that lower-latency settings can increase playback buffering. For a loop where you are not responding live, the benefit of low latency may be limited. Review the available latency and DVR choices in the Live Control Room stream settings rather than assuming the lowest latency is always best.
Check YouTube eligibility and content rules separately
Correct OBS settings do not establish that a particular channel in India is eligible to go live, or that a particular continuous-loop format complies with YouTube’s current policies. Confirm live access in YouTube Studio and review the current rules that apply to your channel and content before scheduling a continuous broadcast. Copyright permission for every audio and video element is a separate issue from technical ability to stream; using a loop does not itself grant rights or establish policy compliance.
Troubleshoot a 720p loop stream
- YouTube does not receive the stream: Check that live streaming is enabled, the correct stream is selected in the Live Control Room, and the stream key was copied into OBS accurately. If this is a first-time setup, allow for YouTube’s stated enablement window of up to 24 hours.
- Stream health reports connection problems: Reduce the bitrate, check available outbound bandwidth while other household traffic is active, and test again. Keep the recommended headroom rather than setting OBS to consume all measured upload capacity.
- Video stutters or buffers for viewers: Test a lower bitrate or 30 fps for mostly static content, then inspect YouTube’s stream health. If Wi-Fi proves unreliable, a wired Ethernet connection is an optional troubleshooting step, not a requirement or guaranteed fix.
- Audio or motion differs from the planned stream: Repeat the test using representative movement and sound, then check the OBS source, audio encoding, and YouTube health messages before the broadcast.
- Viewers experience buffering at low latency: Consider a less aggressive latency setting in YouTube’s stream controls; lower latency can increase buffering, particularly when real-time interaction is not essential.
Or let it run in the cloud
If the goal is an always-on YouTube loop, StreamNeo can run uploaded videos from the cloud: upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. Your computer and home connection do not have to stay on. It streams the file as uploaded, up to 4K 60fps, at one flat price per slot; it automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card, once per account. Monthly pricing is $9.99 per month. In India, UPI and cards are supported. Learn more at StreamNeo, or start your free first day.
