If a YouTube Live loop stream buffers, first find out whether the problem is on the broadcaster’s upload path or at viewers’ playback end. Check OBS for network-dropped frames and YouTube Live Control Room for stream-health warnings; then match the stream bitrate to sustained upload capacity, leave bandwidth headroom, and use normal latency for a loop that does not need real-time interaction. There is no established India-specific bitrate or general fault affecting a particular Indian ISP.
Why is my YouTube Live stream buffering?
“Buffering” can describe different symptoms: the picture pauses for viewers, the broadcast has a long delay, or the live feed disconnects. Those symptoms do not by themselves identify the cause. A stream can have a healthy broadcaster-side connection while some viewers buffer because their networks, locations, or devices differ.

- OBS reports network-dropped frames: the connection to the remote ingest server may be unstable or unable to keep up with the selected bitrate. Check upload capacity, Wi-Fi, and the route to YouTube.
- OBS shows no network drops, but one viewer reports pauses: investigate that viewer’s device and connection. This does not prove every other viewer or YouTube is affected.
- Several viewers on the same network report pauses: their shared network may be involved.
- Many viewers on different connections report pauses: check for encoder errors, CPU load, YouTube health warnings, and the broadcaster’s connection.
- The local output itself looks or sounds wrong: check the encoder preview and, if enabled, a local recording. A healthy local file points away from the content being encoded incorrectly, but does not by itself rule out a streaming-path problem.
Compare reports by scope and time. Ask whether the image repeatedly pauses or the stream merely has a long delay, and note whether the live feed disconnects. YouTube’s live-stream troubleshooting guidance recommends checking encoder errors and CPU load, and testing the outbound connection when the local output is healthy.

What bitrate and upload speed should I use in India?
Use your actual, sustained upload capacity—not the advertised download speed—to choose a stream setting. YouTube says the total stream bitrate must not exceed available upload bandwidth and recommends leaving 20% room. Other traffic and connection instability can reduce what the encoder can reliably use. Measure the connection used by the streaming computer under representative conditions, and repeat the test during the hours when trouble usually occurs; a single short test does not establish all-day stability.

YouTube’s platform-wide live encoder recommendations, accessed October 3, 2026, include these H.264 targets. They are not guarantees for a particular city, ISP, Wi-Fi network, or route to ingest.
| Resolution and frame rate | H.264 minimum | H.264 recommended | AV1 or H.265/HEVC recommended |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1080p, 30 fps | 5 Mbps | 14 Mbps | 10 Mbps |
| 1080p, 60 fps | 6 Mbps | 17 Mbps | 12 Mbps |
| 720p, 30 fps | 3 Mbps | 8 Mbps | 6 Mbps |
| 720p, 60 fps | 3 Mbps | 8 Mbps | 6 Mbps |
These are codec-specific targets from YouTube’s live encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions. Use the row for your chosen codec, resolution, and frame rate; do not treat an upload-video bitrate as a livestream target. YouTube’s streaming tips recommend leaving 20% of upload bandwidth available. OBS offers a separate troubleshooting heuristic: start at about 75% of total upload speed when selecting a bitrate. That is OBS advice, not a YouTube requirement or a guarantee of stability.

If your stable upload cannot support the selected bitrate plus headroom, reduce bitrate, resolution, or frame rate until the stream fits. If upload varies during the day, choose settings that fit the weaker representative results rather than the best brief result. There is no single bitrate adjustment that applies to all Indian connections.
How to test and adjust a loop stream
- Measure upload on the encoder’s connection. Test when the connection is in normal use and repeat at the time of day that usually brings buffering. Record the results and whether the computer is on Wi-Fi or Ethernet.
- Choose a sustainable stream profile. Select the codec, resolution, and frame rate, then use YouTube’s corresponding bitrate guidance as a target constrained by measured upload and headroom. If it will not fit, step down the bitrate, resolution, or frame rate.
- Check the encoder configuration. YouTube’s guidance supports RTMP/RTMPS, H.264/H.265/AV1, CBR, and a recommended keyframe interval of two seconds (not over four seconds). Use the codec-specific table and the settings available in your encoder.
- Run a representative test before the broadcast. Include representative audio and motion, check the watch page and mobile playback, and monitor OBS dropped-frame statistics alongside YouTube’s stream-health messages. For a recurring loop, repeat the test during the usual trouble window.
- Compare local and viewer playback. Check the encoder preview and a local recording if you make one. Ask affected viewers whether they share a connection, and record when and where the pauses occur.
YouTube’s encoder guidance recommends testing before going live and monitoring stream health during the broadcast. Keep a record of timestamps, bitrate, resolution, frame rate, connection type, OBS dropped frames, YouTube warnings, and the scope of viewer reports; these details are more useful to an ISP than a general report that “the stream buffers.”

Why viewer buffering can happen when OBS shows no dropped frames
OBS’s network-dropped-frame indicator concerns the encoder’s connection to its remote ingest server. It does not measure every viewer’s connection to playback. If OBS has no network drops and the local output is healthy, but only some viewers report pauses, investigate their networks and devices before changing the broadcaster’s bitrate. If many viewers on unrelated connections report the same problem, examine encoder errors, CPU load, local output, and YouTube health messages as well.
Compare the live watch page on a different device or connection where possible. This is a diagnostic comparison, not proof that one side is at fault. YouTube’s guidance on streaming and video issues can help viewers distinguish playback problems from broadcaster-side symptoms.

Should a loop stream use normal, low, or ultra-low latency?
For a prerecorded loop that does not depend on near-real-time audience interaction, start with normal latency. YouTube warns that “Lower latency may mean more playback buffering.” Low and ultra-low latency reduce the time available for the player to read ahead, so they can make interruptions more likely; use them when interaction speed matters enough to justify that trade-off. YouTube says low latency is under 10 seconds for most viewers and ultra-low latency under five seconds for most viewers—typical figures, not guarantees or buffering thresholds. YouTube’s live-stream settings guidance places 4K streams at normal latency.

Test Ethernet if the encoder uses Wi-Fi
If OBS shows network drops on Wi-Fi, test the same stream over a wired connection. OBS notes that “WiFi may be unstable for streaming.” A Cat6 Ethernet cable is an optional diagnostic only if the computer and router support Ethernet and the cable can reach them. A wired test can isolate the local wireless segment; it cannot fix insufficient ISP upload, congestion along the ISP route, or viewer-side buffering.

Check local network equipment and software
Check cables and network devices, and restarting a modem or router can be a reasonable diagnostic. OBS lists VPNs, security software, network-prioritization utilities, outdated network drivers, modem/router connectivity, and congestion along the ISP route among possible causes. If software changes were made to OBS networking, return options to their defaults if those changes did not help. Avoid broadly disabling security protection; if temporarily testing whether security software is involved, re-enable it and make an OBS exception only if evidence identifies it as the cause. OBS documents these steps in its stream connection troubleshooting guide.
When to contact the ISP
If repeated upload tests or wired tests show trouble, contact your ISP with the timestamps and observations you recorded. Ask it to investigate the connection and route rather than assuming a particular Indian ISP, plan, or city is responsible. The available platform guidance does not establish a special India-only bitrate, ISP ranking, or universal mobile-data-versus-broadband result.
Or let it run in the cloud
If the aim is to keep an uploaded-video loop live on YouTube without leaving a computer or OBS running at home, StreamNeo is a cloud option: upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. It plays uploaded videos and streams to YouTube; it is not a camera broadcast service.
