Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsTo save a webpage as a PDF without clipping its images, open the browser’s Print dialog, select Save to PDF (or its equivalent), and check the preview before saving. If an image crosses a page edge, adjust scale, orientation, paper size, or margins. If colors or visual elements are missing, enable the option for printing background graphics. Browser print output can differ from what you see on screen because websites may use separate print layouts.
Save a webpage as a PDF and check the page breaks
- Open the webpage you want to save and open the browser’s Print dialog. Firefox documents Ctrl+P on Windows and Linux and Command+P on macOS.
- Choose Save to PDF or the browser’s equivalent as the destination.
- Inspect the preview, especially the page boundaries where images appear cut off.
- Adjust the settings described below until the image fits within the printable page area.
- Save the PDF, then open it and verify the image and surrounding content.
Print preview is useful for spotting page-boundary problems, but it cannot guarantee that a site’s print layout will look exactly like its on-screen version.

Which print settings can prevent image clipping?
Scale
Reduce the scale if an image or a wide page extends beyond the page boundary. There is no single percentage that works for every webpage: the right setting depends on the image’s dimensions, paper size, orientation, margins, and the site’s print styling.
Orientation, paper size, and margins
If the image is wider than the page, try landscape orientation or a larger paper size. Margins also reduce the space available for content, so changing them may allow an image to fit. Firefox documents orientation, paper size, scale, and margins; Edge documents scaling and margins. The available labels and controls differ by browser.

Background graphics
If a graphic, color, or image-like design element is missing, enable the background-print option. Firefox calls this Print backgrounds; Microsoft Edge calls it Background graphics. In Firefox, Simplified format disables Print backgrounds, so use Original when you need those backgrounds.
Firefox and Edge settings
| Browser | Relevant documented controls | When to use them |
|---|---|---|
| Firefox | Save to PDF destination; orientation; paper size; scale; margins; Original or Simplified format; Print backgrounds | Adjust page fit and choose whether the PDF retains printed backgrounds or uses Simplified format. |
| Microsoft Edge | Print dialog; scaling; margins; Background graphics | Adjust how content fits and include background graphics when needed. |
These controls are documented in Mozilla’s Firefox printing instructions and Microsoft’s Edge printing instructions. Menus can vary by browser version and platform; the documented options should not be taken as identical across every desktop and mobile browser.

Save only one image as a PDF
If you need a PDF of a single image rather than the whole webpage, open the image in a new tab or view the background image, then use the regular print-to-PDF workflow. Firefox documents this approach. Check the preview to make sure the image fits the page.
Why an image can still look different or get clipped
A webpage may use print-specific CSS that changes its layout when sent to a printer or PDF destination. Printed content is divided across pages; as Chrome Developers explains, “When content is printed it is fragmented into as many pages as needed to contain it.” The page’s own print styling may therefore move, resize, omit, or split content compared with its screen layout.

Chrome Developers describes print-specific CSS and the @page rule, which Chrome and Firefox support. Chrome 131 added generated content in page margin boxes, a feature for web authors rather than a user setting that guarantees images will fit. See Chrome Developers’ explanation of printed page margins and CSS.
Troubleshooting images cut off in a PDF
- The image runs past the right or left edge: Try a smaller scale, landscape orientation, a larger paper size, or narrower margins, then inspect the preview again.
- The image is split across pages: Check its position at the page boundary in preview and try changing scale, orientation, or paper size. The site’s print CSS may also control how content breaks across pages.
- Colors or image-like backgrounds are missing: Enable Print backgrounds in Firefox or Background graphics in Edge. In Firefox, choose Original rather than Simplified format if backgrounds are required.
- The PDF differs from the webpage on screen: The site may apply a separate print layout. Browser print settings cannot guarantee a pixel-identical copy of the screen.
- You only need one image: Open the image in a new tab or view the background image and print that separately.
- Settings seem unavailable or differently named: Browser controls vary by product, operating system, and version. Look in the print dialog’s additional or more-settings section; Firefox and Edge document their own interfaces.
Or skip the browser setup
If you need a screenshot rather than a browser-generated print PDF, ScreenshotNeo can return a webpage capture as PNG, JPEG, WebP, or PDF through one GET request. Its clean-shot options accept cookie or consent banners and remove more than 60 known consent platforms, newsletter popups, and chat widgets before capture; each step can be turned off. Bot checks or CAPTCHAs, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads, and cache hits are not billed, and the response identifies the page verdict and billing status. It also provides an MCP server with screenshot, page-info, and PDF-capture tools for AI agents. The free plan includes 1,000 shots per month with no card; paid plans start at $5 for 3,000 shots. A screenshot or captured PDF may not reproduce the browser’s print layout, so use the print workflow above when that is what you need.
