To prepare a long audiobook video for a dependable 24/7 YouTube Live stream, clear the rights first, verify the channel can livestream, check the recording from start to finish, then test the encoder, network and archive plan before leaving it running. A continuous stream is an operating system, not just a long file: you need a plan for monitoring, recovery and the breaks between stream sessions.
1. Confirm you have the rights to stream the audiobook
Before uploading or scheduling anything, confirm that you have the necessary rights for every element viewers will hear or see: the audiobook text, narration and recording, cover art or background visuals, music, and any other included material. The permission should cover YouTube livestreaming and any archived replay, in the relevant territories.

YouTube’s livestream terms place responsibility on the provider to hold the rights needed to exploit live content worldwide, including applicable music licensing and public-performance rights. YouTube scans live streams for third-party content. If it detects a match, it may replace the live feed with a placeholder and warn the creator; if the content remains, the stream may be interrupted or terminated. If you have a licence for third-party material, ask the rights holder to add your channel to its Content ID allowlist. Do not assume that a book being old, freely available online, or already narrated by someone else makes your particular text, recording or artwork free to use. Check the rights for the exact edition and recording you intend to stream.

2. Make sure the channel is ready to go live
YouTube’s current eligibility guidance says the channel must be verified and must not have had live-streaming restrictions in the preceding 90 days. Streamers must be at least 16 years old. For a first livestream, activation can take up to 24 hours, so enable the feature and confirm access well before your planned start. Check the current requirements at YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility page.
3. Check the audiobook video before encoding it
Play the complete file from beginning to end before scheduling the stream. Check that the picture does not unexpectedly go black, the narration remains audible and intelligible, and the file does not contain accidental silence, clipping or abrupt level changes. Watch transitions and any loop point closely: a sudden cut, blank frame or long gap can make a continuous audiobook stream feel broken even when the encoder is working normally.
Use audio and picture movement representative of the actual stream when testing the encoder. YouTube recommends testing with similar content and continuously monitoring audio and video quality. If the file is too long to review in one sitting, inspect it in sections and check the opening, chapter changes, transitions and ending specifically; do not treat an unverified export as a reliable source.
4. Choose how the prerecorded video will reach YouTube

YouTube’s encoder guidance explains that an encoder sends video using a stream URL and stream key. It also names Gyre as an example of a cloud-based tool for continuous streaming of prerecorded videos. Treat that as an option to investigate, not as a YouTube endorsement. 5. Configure the encoder and connection
Use YouTube’s current encoder settings
YouTube’s live encoder guidance supports RTMP or RTMPS ingest, H.264, H.265 or AV1 video, and AAC or MP3 audio. It recommends constant bitrate encoding and a two-second keyframe interval; the interval should not exceed four seconds. Use the resolution-specific bitrate recommendation in the current YouTube live encoder settings rather than borrowing a preset intended for another platform. For an audiobook, protect intelligible, even narration first: a high video bitrate cannot repair poor source audio.
Leave bandwidth headroom
Measure upload speed, not just download speed. YouTube recommends leaving 20% headroom above the total streaming bitrate; if you configure a primary and backup stream, both bitrates plus that headroom need to fit within the available upload capacity. Avoid saturating the connection with other uploads or devices. YouTube warns that a network disruption can break the stream. Its streaming tips explain how to check connectivity and prepare the encoder.
Protect the stream key
In YouTube Studio, open Live Control Room and create or schedule a stream. Copy the stream URL and key into the encoder’s server or ingest and key fields, then preview the incoming feed before starting the broadcast. Treat the stream key as private: anyone who obtains it may be able to send a feed to your channel. If it is exposed, replace or reset it in the live-stream settings and update the encoder with the new key.

- At least two hours before: YouTube recommends setting up the encoder at least two hours ahead. Confirm that the source file plays, the encoder connects and the Live Control Room receives the expected picture and sound.
- At least 15 minutes before: YouTube recommends starting the encoder at least 15 minutes ahead of a scheduled event. Check the Live Control Room preview before going live rather than assuming the encoder’s local preview matches what YouTube receives.
- Check the viewer experience: Confirm that the event is reachable from the channel and watch page, and check it on a mobile device. Listen for narration and look for picture problems in the actual YouTube feed.
- Check any local recording: If the encoder is also recording locally, verify that the file exists and that its size is growing. A live preview is not a substitute for checking a backup recording.
These are YouTube’s event-oriented setup tips; for continuous programming, adapt them into checks you can repeat after a restart and during operation. A 24/7 feed needs a person or alerting process that can notice a frozen picture, missing audio or dropped connection and act on it.

7. Plan for 24/7 continuity, archives and DVR
YouTube says livestreams under 12 hours are automatically archived. Do not plan on one 24-hour stream producing a complete 24-hour archive under that guidance. Decide whether to use shorter sessions, what viewers will see at each restart, and how you will check each resulting archive. A planned transition is preferable to discovering after the fact that the session or replay did not behave as expected.
DVR can allow viewers to pause, rewind and resume while a stream is live when the feature is enabled. It does not remove the need to plan session boundaries or verify the resulting archives. See YouTube’s live DVR guidance.
8. Troubleshoot common failures
