Check the stream’s separate status, the exact destination FFmpeg is publishing to, FFmpeg’s error output, and the Live Control Room health message before changing settings.
What “no data” means—and what it does not
YouTube’s Live Streaming API defines noData this way: “YouTube’s live streaming backend servers do not have any information about the stream’s health status.” That health value is not the same as the stream status. YouTube lists statuses such as active, meaning it is receiving data via the stream, as well as created, ready, inactive and error. Check both values; noData alone does not prove that FFmpeg’s command is wrong or that a connection failed. YouTube Live Streaming API: liveStreams

Make sure you are viewing the intended stream
In YouTube Live Control Room, confirm that the selected stream is the one FFmpeg should be sending to. YouTube’s setup guidance says the stream URL tells the encoder where to send the feed, and the stream key lets YouTube accept it. Enter the URL and key supplied for that stream. Treat the key like a password: redact it from screenshots, command examples and logs you share. YouTube Help: Manage live stream settings

Inspect FFmpeg’s actual output destination
Read the full command from left to right and identify the output URL after the inputs and output options. Compare it character for character with the current server URL shown in Live Control Room; don’t assume an old URL, application path or key is still valid. FFmpeg documents RTMP URL components as a server, optional port, application and stream identifier, and its publishing example uses

Read the protocol and connection error before switching anything
YouTube recommends RTMPS. Copy the RTMPS URL displayed in Live Control Room if you choose that protocol, and confirm your FFmpeg build supports it. For an SSL error, check that both the protocol and server use
rtmps; YouTube says specifying port443may resolve an SSL error. For a connection timeout, verify the copied URL and RTMPS support. Don’t change protocols blindly when the log points to another issue. YouTube Help: Fix live stream errors -
Compare the output settings with YouTube’s recommendations
For RTMP/RTMPS, YouTube lists H.264, H.265/HEVC or AV1 video, up to 60 fps, constant bitrate (CBR), and a two-second keyframe interval (not over four seconds). It lists AAC or MP3 audio. Choose bitrate for the actual codec, resolution and frame rate rather than applying a universal value.

Use the preview, health details and logs together
Check Live Control Room’s stream preview, health message and real-time analytics. YouTube recommends previewing before going live and checking network setup. If the label persists, preserve the exact command with the key redacted, relevant FFmpeg errors, the selected stream URL and protocol with secrets removed, the stream status, and the full YouTube health message. That information is more useful for diagnosis than

How to interpret the key checks
- Health and status disagree: Record both rather than treating a health label as the stream’s state. In particular, YouTube defines
activeas receiving data;noDatadescribes missing health information. - URL, key or selected stream mismatch: Re-copy the current destination and key from the intended Live Control Room stream. Don’t post the key when asking for help.
- Protocol or SSL error: Check the precise error, the RTMPS URL from YouTube, FFmpeg support and, where relevant, port 443. RTMPS encrypts the connection; YouTube recommends it.
- Encoding or health warning: Match the current YouTube recommendation for your codec, frame rate and resolution, then inspect the preview and health message.
- No clear error: The documentation does not define a complete FFmpeg-specific cause tree for
noData. Don’t infer a root cause from that label alone; use the redacted command, build details, logs and dashboard information.
