Start by checking whether YouTube created an archive of the stream. A continuous broadcast can exceed YouTube’s automatic-archive window: YouTube says streams longer than 12 hours may not be captured at all. Since live chat replay is attached to the stream archive, no archive usually means no replay to restore. If an archive exists, check its replay setting, audience designation, editing history, policy notices, and where you are viewing it.
1. Check whether YouTube saved an archive
In YouTube Studio, open Content, then the Live tab, and look for the ended broadcast. YouTube says streams shorter than 12 hours can be automatically archived; a stream exceeding 12 hours may not be captured at all. That is a possibility, not a guarantee: check the specific stream rather than assuming every 24/7 broadcast lacks an archive. YouTube Help: Archive live streams.

- No archive appears: replay cannot be enabled on an archive YouTube did not create. You can retain a local recording as a backup for the video, but it will not restore chat replay to YouTube.
- The archive appears: continue through the checks below.
2. Turn on Live chat replay for the archive
YouTube says Live chat replay is on by default for live streams and available on stream archives, but the setting can be deselected. In YouTube Studio, go to Content (or open youtube.com/my_videos), select Live, choose the archived video, open Customization, and check that Live chat replay is enabled. Labels may change as Studio is updated. See YouTube Help: Learn about live chat.

3. Check the audience designation
If the stream is designated Made for Kids, YouTube disables both Live chat and Live chat replay. Check the video’s audience setting in Studio. If the designation is incorrect, use YouTube’s available audience-setting controls; chat replay will not be available while the video is designated Made for Kids. 5. Look for a policy restriction
YouTube may turn off Live chat on a video if its content or chat violates Community Guidelines, including following user reports. Review the video’s notices or restrictions in Studio. The cited YouTube guidance does not promise a creator-side override for a policy-based disablement. YouTube Help: Learn about live chat.

6. Make sure you are viewing the replay in the right place
