Your application does not need to launch a browser itself: the hosted service renders the target page. Your route or controller is the boundary between your caller and that service. It should authorize the caller, validate a limited set of inputs, make a server-to-server request, handle the result, and return it with an appropriate content type.

- Accept a request from an authenticated or otherwise authorized caller.

- Call the chosen provider from the application server using server-side credentials.
- Handle provider errors and timeouts without exposing secrets or internal exception details.
- Return the image or PDF bytes with a suitable media type, or serve a controlled URL if your application stores the result.
Provider contracts are not interchangeable. Confirm the endpoint, key placement, request fields, output formats, response body, quotas, and retry behavior in the selected vendor’s current documentation.

Use that documented example as the basis for your implementation rather than assuming SDK class names, constructor arguments, PHP compatibility, or method signatures are unchanged. The SDK example reads the API key from environment configuration, creates a client, requests a screenshot, and returns image data with a content type. Keep those details aligned with the version you install.
Symfony integration checklist
- Install the SDK using the Composer command in its current documentation.
- Store the API key in environment configuration or deployment secret storage, not in a controller literal or template.
- Restrict which callers can reach the screenshot route.
- Validate the URL and any output, viewport, quality, or color-scheme options against an application-side allowlist.
- Return a content type consistent with the actual output format; do not hard-code PNG if other formats or PDF are permitted.
- Map provider failures to safe application responses and log only information that does not reveal credentials or sensitive target data.
How do I take a website screenshot from Flask?
Flask can use Python’s HTTP tooling to call a screenshot service from a view function. Replace the endpoint, bearer authentication, JSON field names, response handling, and permitted media types with the selected service’s documented requirements. If the provider returns a result URL instead of file bytes, retrieve or store it according to its documented security and retention model.

What to validate before accepting a target URL
- Allow only schemes your product needs, commonly HTTP and HTTPS.
- Block internal addresses, loopback, private network ranges, and cloud metadata endpoints where relevant to your deployment; account for DNS resolution and redirects, not just the original hostname.
- Consider an approved-host allowlist if callers do not need arbitrary destinations.
- Limit output format, viewport dimensions, capture features, response size, and request frequency.
- Set bounded connection and read timeouts. A remote renderer can take longer than an ordinary application request.
- Check the provider’s own network-access restrictions; your application’s SSRF protections do not govern the renderer’s network.
How do I keep a screenshot API key out of frontend code?
Make the provider request from Symfony or Flask, not from browser JavaScript. Keep credentials in environment variables or deployment secret storage, and do not put them in public HTML, source control, or logs. A public endpoint that accepts arbitrary URLs can become an open proxy or an SSRF path. Require caller authorization, restrict destinations and options, rate-limit use, cap response sizes, and return only the output your application expects. Do not assume that putting the API key on the server alone makes an unrestricted screenshot route safe.
Choose response handling and capture options deliberately

Exact parameter names, limits, and supported combinations are provider-specific, so check the current reference before exposing them in your own API.

Return bytes, a URL, or an application-managed file
- Raw bytes: convenient for a direct image response; validate the upstream status and content type before returning the body.
- Provider-hosted URL: useful if the service’s contract returns a hosted result, but confirm URL lifetime, access controls, and retention before exposing it.
- Application-managed file: gives your application control over access and retention, but requires storage, cleanup, and authorization decisions.
Set cache headers based on privacy and freshness. A screenshot of a private or personalized page should not be made publicly cacheable by default. If the caller controls output format, use a validated requested format or a trusted upstream content type instead of assuming every response is PNG.
Errors, timeouts, performance, and cost
Handle invalid requests, authentication failures, provider rate limits, exhausted quota, render failures, and timeouts as distinct operational cases. The precise HTTP status mappings and retry rules must come from the provider’s API reference. Avoid retrying every failure blindly: retries can repeat work, consume quota, or worsen rate limiting. Use finite connection and read timeouts, enforce an overall request budget, and consider asynchronous jobs when captures do not need to finish within a user-facing request. If you cache results, define a TTL based on page freshness and user privacy. Track provider latency, failure categories, and application-side request volume without logging API secrets.
