For YouTube Live at 4K/2160p and 60 fps, YouTube recommends a 35 Mbps video bitrate for H.264. Its streaming guidance recommends keeping 20% upload headroom, which means roughly 42 Mbps of stable usable upload capacity for that stream alone—before allowing for other devices or uploads. Airtel’s ₹499 plan is listed at up to 40 Mbps, while its ₹799 plan is listed at up to 100 Mbps. Airtel’s national QoS report for the quarter ending December 2025 lists typical upload speeds of 40 Mbps and 100 Mbps for those tariffs, respectively. The 40 Mbps tier therefore falls short of the H.264 target with recommended headroom; 100 Mbps has more nominal capacity, but neither a plan listing nor a national report guarantees performance at your home.
How much upload speed does YouTube 4K 60fps need?
YouTube Help’s live-encoder guidance, accessed in 2026, recommends a 35 Mbps bitrate for 4K/2160p at 60 fps using H.264. The same table lists 10–40 Mbps for AV1 or H.265 (HEVC). These are live-stream encoder bitrates, not a promise of the internet speed an individual stream will use in every moment.

YouTube recommends leaving 20% headroom between the stream’s total bitrate and available upload bandwidth. At 35 Mbps, the calculation is 35 ÷ 0.8 = 43.75 Mbps; around 44 Mbps is the mathematical target, with additional capacity desirable for other upload traffic. YouTube’s advice is to run a speed test and test before starting, then monitor stream health during the broadcast. YouTube live encoder guidance · YouTube streaming tips
For AV1 or H.265, the encoder table’s 10–40 Mbps range does not remove the need for headroom. Choose a bitrate within YouTube’s current guidance, then check that your measured upload remains comfortably above the full stream bitrate with other household traffic included.

What Airtel Xstream Fiber plans indicate
Airtel’s plan page and FAQ describe speeds as “up to” values. Airtel’s Q4 2025 wireline QoS report separately lists typical upload speeds for certain tariffs across India. Those figures help compare tiers, but they are not measurements of your connection or guarantees for your address. Airtel plan availability and terms can vary geographically; confirm serviceability and current terms for the location where you will stream.
| Airtel tariff | Plan listing | Typical upload in Airtel Q4 2025 report | What it means for 4K60 H.264 |
|---|---|---|---|
| ₹499 | Up to 40 Mbps | 40 Mbps | Below the roughly 44 Mbps headroom calculation for a 35 Mbps stream, even before competing uploads. |
| ₹799 | Up to 100 Mbps | 100 Mbps | More nominal capacity than the H.264 target; actual stability and available upload at your setup still need testing. |
| ₹1599 | Up to 300 Mbps | Not stated here | The listed plan speed alone does not establish your usable upload performance. |
| ₹3999 | Up to 1 Gbps | Not stated here | The listed plan speed alone does not establish your usable upload performance. |
Airtel’s Q4 2025 report also gives 90th-percentile measured uploads of 43 Mbps for tariff 499 and 106 Mbps for tariff 799. These are report statistics for that tariff and period, not an expected result for every subscriber. Do not confuse live bitrate with video upload bitrate
YouTube publishes different recommendations for live ingest and uploading a finished video. For recorded 2160p SDR video at high frame rates, YouTube’s upload-encoding guidance lists 53–68 Mbps. That number is not the recommended bitrate for a 4K60 live stream; for live H.264, the recommendation is 35 Mbps. YouTube upload encoding settings

Encoder settings YouTube specifies
- Protocol: RTMP or RTMPS; YouTube recommends RTMPS to encrypt the connection to its servers.
- Codec and frame rate: H.264, H.265 (HEVC), or AV1; YouTube’s live guidance supports up to 60 fps.
- Rate control: Constant bitrate encoding.
- Keyframes: Two-second interval recommended; do not exceed four seconds.
- Latency: YouTube says 4K/2160p streams do not offer “improve for low latency” and use normal latency.
Use YouTube’s current live-encoder table for the precise bitrate appropriate to the selected resolution, frame rate, and codec: YouTube live encoder settings.
Test the connection you will actually use
- Check that Airtel serves your address and confirm the current plan details. Do not assume the advertised “up to” speed is your upload speed.
- Connect the streaming computer to the router using the same method planned for the event. A reliable wired Ethernet connection can reduce local Wi-Fi variability; a cable cannot increase the ISP’s provisioned speed and is not mandatory.
- Run an upload speed test at the streaming location. Do not use download speed as a substitute: YouTube notes that download speed can be higher than upload speed.
- Run a pre-stream test with motion and audio similar to the intended content, using the same encoder, connection, and household network use expected during the broadcast.
- Check YouTube’s stream health during the test and live event. If upload fluctuates or stream health reports problems, lower the encoder bitrate within YouTube’s recommended settings or reduce competing network traffic, then test again.
Airtel says a router is included with plans, but your Wi-Fi environment, router placement, local interference, other household users, and simultaneous cloud backups or uploads can affect usable capacity. If your speed test is near the bitrate threshold, treat that as insufficient headroom rather than a dependable pass.

- Speed test looks fast, but the live stream buffers or loses health: Check upload rather than download results, test during the same household usage, and compare actual upload against the stream’s total bitrate plus 20% headroom.
- The 40 Mbps tariff seems close enough for H.264 4K60: YouTube’s 35 Mbps recommendation leaves too little margin on a 40 Mbps typical upload figure; background uploads can consume the remainder. Reduce competing traffic or select a lower bitrate/resolution supported by YouTube and retest.
- Results vary over Wi-Fi: Retest near the router or use Ethernet where practical, then verify stream health from the exact location and setup used for the broadcast.
- The encoder shows dropped frames or unstable transmission: Verify constant bitrate, keyframe interval, RTMPS/RTMP configuration, and the selected codec/bitrate against YouTube’s current guidance. Ensure no other device is saturating upload.
- The plan is unavailable or its speed differs by location: Check Airtel serviceability by address and ask Airtel to confirm the actual tariff terms for that area; national QoS figures do not predict an individual line.
Or let it run in the cloud
If the goal is a continuous YouTube channel using uploaded videos rather than a live camera, StreamNeo runs the loop from the cloud: upload a recording or make a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. Your computer and home connection do not need to stay on. Every slot streams the uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps at one flat price per slot, includes 10 GB pooled storage per active slots, looping and playlists, and automatic recovery if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. Monthly is $9.99 per month. StreamNeo is for uploaded-video streams to YouTube, not camera broadcasts. Start the free StreamNeo day.
