YaleSecure is intended for Yale faculty, staff, students, and visiting faculty; long-term visitors who have been granted a Yale NetID are also encouraged to use it. Visitors without Yale credentials may need YaleGuest or eduroam, depending on their circumstances.
How do I connect to the YaleSecure Wi-Fi?
On a wireless-capable device, open Wi-Fi settings, choose YaleSecure, and enter your Yale NetID and password when prompted. Yale Law School lists an IEEE 802.11a/b/g/n/ac-capable device as a service requirement and describes the service as self-service, available at no cost, and available 24/7 for its stated audience. Those details are specific to the audience and service listing on Yale Law School’s wireless network page.

Yale visitor guidance gives these device-specific examples. Prompts and screen layouts can differ by device and operating-system version, so follow Yale’s current ITS instructions if your screen does not match.
On iPhone or iPad
- Open Wi-Fi settings and select YaleSecure.
- Enter the requested credentials and tap Join.
- When prompted, accept the Yale Wi-Fi certificate prompt.
On Android
- Open Wi-Fi settings and select YaleSecure.
- For the Identity field, the visitor FAQ gives the format
yaleYourYaleNetID. - Enter your NetID password and leave Anonymous Identity blank.
The FAQ labels its Android example as applying to Android 7 or higher; treat that as a dated example, not a guarantee of current Android screens. See Yale’s visitor Wi-Fi FAQ for the published connection examples.

Which Yale Wi-Fi network should a visitor choose?
Choose based on your Yale eligibility and the access you need. Yale’s visitor guidance distinguishes the networks as follows:
| Network | Who it is for | Access notes |
|---|---|---|
| YaleSecure | People with Yale NetID credentials; Yale encourages long-term visitors granted a NetID to use it. | Connect by selecting YaleSecure and authenticating with the Yale NetID. |
| YaleGuest | Short-term visitors. | Public, limited-access network. Some programs and functions may not work on it. |
| eduroam | Visitors whose home institution participates in eduroam. | Sign in using the home institution’s credentials; check with that institution if you are unsure of eligibility. |
Network eligibility is not automatic: Yale determines access to its networks, while eduroam eligibility depends on the visitor’s home institution. The distinctions above are described in Yale’s visitor Wi-Fi guidance.

How do I connect to Yale resources via Yale VPN while off-campus?
Yale visitor guidance says off-campus access to some Yale secure websites or resources may require the Cisco AnyConnect VPN client together with multifactor authentication. This is for reaching Yale resources remotely; you do not need a VPN merely to use ordinary campus Wi-Fi while physically on campus. Check the relevant service’s access instructions for whether VPN is required. Yale’s visitor page describes the off-campus option at Wireless Network.
Some printing and printing-related features also require a connection through ethernet, Yale Secure Wi-Fi, or Yale VPN, according to Yale BluePrint’s printing guidance.

What should I do if YaleSecure will not reconnect after a password change?
- In your device’s Wi-Fi settings, forget or remove the saved YaleSecure network.
- Select YaleSecure again and enter your current Yale NetID password.
- If you use a Mac and it still uses the old saved credential, remove the YaleSecure entry from Keychain and reconnect.
These steps follow the guidance on Yale’s school technology Wi-Fi support page. If reconnecting still fails, check that the NetID and password are correct and use Yale’s official ITS support route; the cited pages do not establish one troubleshooting flow for every device, account, or management setup.

Yale University’s Minimum Security Standards says: “For WiFi networking, you may use only secure (WPA-2) WiFi networks known to be trustworthy (such as “Yale Secure”).” This is the guidance stated in the standard, available at Yale’s Minimum Security Standards. It does not, by itself, specify YaleSecure’s full current technical configuration or document details such as logging practices.
