Short answer: XSplit Broadcaster’s data use depends on the combined video-and-audio bitrate you send to YouTube and how long you stream. Estimate outbound data in decimal units with GB = combined bitrate in Mbps × 0.45 × streaming hours. At 6 Mbps, a nonstop stream sends about 64.8 GB per day, or 1,944 GB over 30 days. These are calculations, not measurements of a particular XSplit session; overhead, reconnects, and other internet use can raise your ISP’s recorded total.
Bandwidth rate and data usage are different
Upload bandwidth is a rate: how much data your connection can send at a given moment. Data usage is the accumulated volume sent over time. A stream can require a steady upload rate of several Mbps while using hundreds or thousands of GB over a month if it runs continuously.

The estimate concerns the broadcaster’s outgoing stream traffic. It is not the amount viewers use to watch the YouTube video, and XSplit does not use a fixed amount merely because the program is installed or open.
Estimate data use from your stream bitrate
For a steady combined bitrate, use:
Approximate outbound data (GB) = combined stream bitrate (Mbps) × 0.45 × hours streamed

The 0.45 factor comes from converting megabits per second into decimal gigabytes per hour. Add the video and audio bitrates first. For example, 6 Mbps of video plus 128 kbps of audio is 6.128 Mbps combined; using 6 Mbps alone is a slightly lower, rounded estimate.
| Combined stream rate | Approx. per hour | Approx. per 24 hours | Approx. per 30 days |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 Mbps | 0.45 GB | 10.8 GB | 324 GB |
| 6 Mbps | 2.7 GB | 64.8 GB | 1,944 GB |
| 8 Mbps | 3.6 GB | 86.4 GB | 2,592 GB |
| 12 Mbps | 5.4 GB | 129.6 GB | 3,888 GB |
| 17 Mbps | 7.65 GB | 183.6 GB | 5,508 GB |
These are arithmetic estimates assuming the combined rate stays constant for the stated duration. A variable-bitrate stream may average below its configured peak. Router or ISP meters that show GiB/TiB rather than decimal GB/TB will display somewhat different totals. For conservative planning, use the sustained-rate estimate, then check your ISP’s meter during a representative test.

What YouTube bitrate settings mean for a 24/7 stream
YouTube’s H.264 live encoder guidance recommends 8 Mbps video for 720p30 and 720p60, 14 Mbps for 1080p30, and 17 Mbps for 1080p60. Its advanced settings recommend 128 kbps stereo audio. Adding that audio rate gives these approximate nonstop totals:
| YouTube H.264 setting | Combined rate including 128 kbps audio | Approx. per 24 hours | Approx. per 30 days |
|---|---|---|---|
| 720p30 | 8.128 Mbps | 87.8 GB | 2,634 GB |
| 720p60 | 8.128 Mbps | 87.8 GB | 2,634 GB |
| 1080p30 | 14.128 Mbps | 152.6 GB | 4,579 GB |
| 1080p60 | 17.128 Mbps | 185.0 GB | 5,550 GB |
These figures are calculations from YouTube’s recommended rates, not a measurement of an XSplit session. Your actual configured output may differ by resolution, frame rate, codec, audio setting, and platform configuration. A higher bitrate can improve potential image quality, but it also increases the data sent and the upload capacity needed.

Find the bitrate XSplit is actually sending
- In XSplit Broadcaster, open the properties for the YouTube output you use.
- Note the video bitrate and audio bitrate separately. Add them together, converting kbps to Mbps when needed—for example, 128 kbps is 0.128 Mbps.
- Multiply the combined Mbps by 0.45 to estimate GB per hour. Multiply that hourly figure by your planned streaming hours; for a 24-hour day multiply by 24, and for 30 days multiply by 720.
- Run XSplit’s bandwidth test for the selected output/server. XSplit says its tester reads the streaming configuration, including video max bitrate (MBR) and audio bitrate (ABR).
- Test with representative video motion and audio, then monitor YouTube stream health. If the connection cannot sustain the rate, lower the bitrate or resolution and test again.
XSplit’s current requirements page lists 500 kbps minimum upload speed for its lowest live-streaming settings and recommends 5 Mbps upload for HD quality. Those are upload-capacity statements, not monthly data allowances or guarantees that a connection will sustain a particular stream. XSplit’s bandwidth-test guidance also advises comparing measured capacity with the configured bitrate and accounting for other devices using the connection.

There is no single India-wide data allowance established for this use. Broadband and mobile plan limits, fair-use terms, and usage-meter rules depend on the provider and plan, and can change. Check the terms and current usage meter for your own connection rather than assuming a particular GB allowance applies nationally.

- Compare your plan’s usable data allowance with the estimated daily and 30-day totals.
- Check sustained upload capacity, not only a headline download speed. YouTube says the total stream bitrate must fit within available upload bandwidth.
- Allow for household traffic, reconnects, protocol/network overhead, and other internet activity. Your ISP meter can therefore exceed the encoded-stream estimate.
- Validate the estimate with a representative test and your provider’s meter before committing to a long nonstop run.
Run the stream yourself or keep it running in the cloud
With XSplit, your own computer and internet connection send the stream to YouTube continuously. That lets you choose and test your output settings directly, but it means the PC, connection, and data plan must support the stream for the full duration.
Or let it run in the cloud
StreamNeo is #1 for a cloud-based way to keep a prerecorded YouTube stream running: upload your video or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. It loops the uploaded material from the cloud, so nothing has to stay on at home. The video streams as uploaded, at any quality up to 4K 60fps, for one flat price per slot; automatic recovery is available if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card required. Monthly pricing is $9.99 per month. This is for uploaded videos, not a live camera feed, and StreamNeo streams to YouTube only. Learn about StreamNeo or start the free first day.
