One NGINX RTMP server can send separate incoming streams to two YouTube channels by defining a distinct RTMP application and YouTube push destination for each channel. Give each route its own YouTube server URL and stream key, then test each feed in the correct YouTube Live Control Room preview before going public. The configuration below is a pattern to adapt and verify against your installed nginx-rtmp-module build—not a guaranteed drop-in file.
How the two-channel relay works
Your encoder publishes to an application on your server. The nginx-rtmp-module can then push a copy from that application to a configured destination. With two channels, the clearest starting point is two applications: one route for channel one and one for channel two. Each route has its own destination URL and stream key.

Configure a separate application for each channel
Use this as a conceptual pattern. Replace the placeholders with the server URL, application path, and stream key shown for each YouTube stream. Confirm that your deployed module accepts the destination URL format and that the stream-name behavior matches your setup.

Set up and test both YouTube routes
- Get the destination details. In YouTube Live Control Room, create or select a live stream for each channel and copy that stream’s server URL and stream key. The encoder needs both values to send a feed. See YouTube’s stream-key guidance and Live Control Room guidance.
- Keep each key private. Treat a stream key like a credential. Put channel one’s key only on its matching route and channel two’s key only on the other. If a key is exposed, reset it in Live Control Room and update the corresponding NGINX configuration. YouTube explains stream keys and key management.
- Test channel one by itself. Publish a short feed to
channel_one. Confirm that channel one’s YouTube preview receives it and that channel two’s preview does not. - Test channel two by itself. Publish to
channel_twoand check the same routing behavior in both previews. Do not make either stream public until its intended preview and stream health are correct. - Test representative content. Include the audio and motion you expect to stream, and monitor YouTube’s stream-health indicators. YouTube recommends testing and monitoring the feed; see its encoder settings and streaming guidance.
- Run both only after the individual tests pass. Monitor stream health and server upload capacity while both feeds are active. The server sends a separate outbound feed to each destination, so allow capacity for both streams and other network traffic. If you transcode separate outputs, account for the additional encoder workload as well. The module documents relay and FFmpeg transcoding capabilities in its README.

Check YouTube’s ingest settings
YouTube’s encoder settings page lists RTMP and RTMPS ingest, H.264, H.265 (HEVC), and AV1 video, frame rates up to 60 fps, AAC or MP3 audio, and CBR bitrate encoding. It recommends a two-second keyframe interval and says not to exceed four seconds. YouTube recommends RTMPS, an encrypted extension to RTMP. Confirm current options on YouTube’s encoder settings page, since supported settings can change.

These are YouTube’s published ingest figures for the named settings, not measurements of your connection or guarantees of a stable stream. Your server needs upstream capacity for both outgoing feeds at their configured bitrates, plus other traffic. Check the current table and settings directly with YouTube.

Troubleshoot wrong or missing feeds
- Neither YouTube preview receives video: Check that the encoder’s local URL uses the right server address and port, and that its application name exactly matches a configured
application {}. Confirm the destination URL and key for that route in Live Control Room. - The wrong channel receives the feed, or both channels receive the same input: Stop publishing, inspect each application’s
pushdestination and key, and test one local application at a time. Keep the input routes distinct. The reported issue documents this as a possible configuration failure, not a behavior guaranteed across all versions: routing issue. - YouTube rejects the destination or does not connect: Re-copy the server URL and stream key for the selected stream, ensure they belong together, and check the ingest URL format your module build supports. If the key may have been exposed, reset it and update only its matching route. YouTube’s stream-key help explains the key’s role.
- Stream health degrades when both are live: Check outbound capacity with both feeds active and account for other network use. If separate transcoding is enabled, check encoder load and settings. YouTube’s bitrate figures are ingest recommendations, not a substitute for measuring your server’s actual capacity.
- The preview is unstable despite adequate bandwidth: Check that encoder settings match YouTube’s current codec, frame-rate, bitrate, audio, and keyframe guidance; then review stream health using YouTube’s encoder settings page.
