XSplit Broadcaster 4.3 added four headline features: a Layout Wizard, a refreshed Sources menu, customizable lower thirds, and a customizable background source. The release was announced on March 1, 2022; it is a historical version, not a description of the current Broadcaster interface. XSplit’s release index shows later releases, so consult its release information and current guide before following version-specific instructions.

Customizable lower thirds
Broadcaster 4.3 introduced lower thirds that users could add from templates and customize with a few clicks. Lower thirds are on-screen graphics commonly used for a speaker’s name or other short identifying information. The announcement does not give a precise editing path.
Customizable background source
The new background source could use supplied images or an image added by the user. XSplit said this source prevents other sources from appearing behind the background: “Using a background source now means you never have to worry about any other sources going behind your background!” That statement appeared in XSplit/SplitmediaLabs Limited’s 4.3 announcement.

How do I build a first scene?
A scene is a layout containing sources; scenes can be switched using the Scene buttons. XSplit’s current getting-started guide documents the following general Broadcaster workflows. These are useful for building a scene, but should not be mistaken for steps unique to version 4.3.
Guided setup with Layout Wizard
- Open Layout Wizard from the welcome screen or the top-bar button, or choose Tools > Layout Wizard.
- Choose a layout.
- Use the source drop-downs to select sources for the layout, such as a camera if you have one and want to use it.
- Finish the wizard to create the scene.
Manual setup
- Click Add Source and choose a source type.
- Place and resize the source on the canvas, then arrange it with the other sources.
- Use the Scene buttons to switch layouts. To rename a scene, right-click its Scene button.
The wizard is the quicker route to a starter arrangement; manual placement gives you more direct control over where sources sit on the canvas.

How do I stream or record?
Before streaming or recording, set the canvas resolution and frame rate. The getting-started guide says these provide the default basis for stream or recording settings; it does not identify these controls as new in 4.3.
Start a stream
- Click Stream. The Plugin Store dialog opens.
- Select a platform and follow its setup wizard to authenticate or configure the output.
- Choose the intended channel from the Outputs drop-down.
- Click Stream to start. Some platforms display a pre-stream dialog first; review and complete it if shown.
Record
- Confirm which canvas the Record button will capture.
- Click Record.
What should I know before installing or relying on an old license detail?
XSplit’s FAQ page, dated 2022, says Broadcaster supports Windows 7 and higher and that there were no plans for a macOS version. It also warns that Boot Camp users may encounter issues. These are dated statements, not a reliable substitute for checking present system requirements before installing.

The same 2022 FAQ described free-license restrictions including a watermark, no commercial use, a four-scene limit, and no simultaneous broadcasting to multiple platforms. It also listed features omitted from the free license: Audio Source, Local Streaming, Stream Delay, Source Transitions, Projector, Preview Editor, Audio Mix Preview, and Skype Video Camera. It said a Premium or Premium Bundle license removed the watermark. Licensing terms can change; verify current terms on XSplit’s licensing information before making a purchase or planning a production around a specific entitlement.
