CaptureKit advertises S3 uploads, but its public product page and general help page do not establish the endpoint parameters or whether uploads can target a bucket you own. CaptureKit describes an API-key workflow for backend requests, so first confirm the current screenshot endpoint’s S3 destination settings with its documentation or support. If the workflow gives your backend the screenshot bytes, you can upload them to S3 yourself using the AWS CLI, SDK, or REST API.
What CaptureKit publicly says about S3 uploads
CaptureKit’s product page describes its service as having “Auto-scaling, built-in caching, and S3 uploads included.” It also says it can capture full-page or viewport screenshots as PNG, WebP, JPEG, or PDF. These are CaptureKit’s feature claims, not independent verification of how a customer configures an S3 destination. CaptureKit product page

CaptureKit’s help center describes issuing an API key and calling API endpoints from a backend. The reviewed general documentation does not specify a screenshot endpoint parameter for a custom bucket, the AWS credentials required, or whether a customer-owned bucket is supported. Do not assume a parameter name or send AWS credentials until CaptureKit confirms its supported configuration.

Choose an upload path
| Path | What it means | What to confirm |
|---|---|---|
| CaptureKit-managed S3 upload | Use CaptureKit’s advertised S3-upload feature, if it supports the destination you need. | Whether you can specify your own bucket and Region, how the destination is authorized, and which endpoint options enable it. |
| Your backend uploads the screenshot | Your application receives image or PDF bytes from the screenshot workflow and writes them to S3 using an AWS SDK, CLI, or REST API. | Whether the CaptureKit endpoint returns bytes to your backend in the format you need, and how its response indicates success or failure. |
The second path is a general AWS upload pattern, not a verified CaptureKit endpoint recipe. CaptureKit’s public materials reviewed here do not establish whether its S3 feature uses this pattern or a managed upload destination.

Plan the S3 object before implementing
Amazon S3 stores files as objects in buckets. An object consists of file data and metadata, and an upload identity needs write permission for the bucket. AWS: Getting started with Amazon S3 and AWS: Uploading objects
- Bucket and Region: Choose the destination bucket and its AWS Region. Confirm CaptureKit can use that destination if you want its managed upload feature.
- Write identity: Arrange an identity with the bucket write permission needed for uploads. Follow AWS guidance and your organization’s least-privilege practices; the available CaptureKit material does not specify an IAM policy for this integration.
- Object key: Choose a filename and, if useful, a prefix such as
captures/example.com/2026/10/03/shot.png. Prefixes help organize captures, but are part of the object key rather than a separate filesystem directory. - Overwrite and versioning: Decide whether repeated captures should reuse a stable key or use unique/date-based keys. In a versioning-enabled bucket, uploading to an existing key creates another object version; choose keys and retention behavior intentionally. AWS: Uploading objects
- Content type and metadata: Set the correct content type for the output format if your upload path allows it. AWS says user-defined metadata is set at upload time; changing it later requires copying the object. AWS: Working with object metadata
Upload screenshot bytes with the AWS CLI
If your backend or CaptureKit workflow has already saved the screenshot locally, the AWS CLI can upload that file as an S3 object. This command does not call CaptureKit; it covers only the S3 upload stage. Configure AWS CLI credentials and permissions according to AWS guidance before running it.

- OPTIMIZE IMAGES AND TEXT – Automatic color detection/adjustment, image rotation (PC only), bleed through prevention/background removal, text enhancement, color drop to enhance scans. Software suite includes document management and OCR software. (4)
- Save the returned capture to a local file, for example
shot.webp. Use the actual output format and filename your screenshot request produced. - Choose a key that reflects your overwrite policy. Replace the bucket and key below with your destination.
- Upload the object:
aws s3 cp shot.webp s3://YOUR_BUCKET/captures/example.com/2026/10/03/shot.webp --content-type image/webp - Check the result: confirm the command completed successfully, then verify the object in the intended bucket and key using the AWS Console or an approved AWS listing/head-object workflow.
For a PNG use image/png; for JPEG use image/jpeg; for PDF use application/pdf. Match the content type to the actual response format. Avoid placing long-lived AWS credentials in client-side code or in a public repository; keep the upload on a trusted backend and use your organization’s approved secret and identity management.
Direct upload versus backend upload
CaptureKit-managed S3 upload
This may avoid handling image bytes in your own service, but the public sources cited above do not show whether the feature supports a customer-selected bucket, nor the endpoint settings and authorization required. Confirm those details with CaptureKit before designing around it.

Backend upload through AWS
This gives your application control over the S3 object key and upload metadata when the backend has the screenshot bytes. It also means your application is responsible for the AWS upload, its failure handling, and the credentials or role used for S3 access. AWS supports uploads through the console, SDK, CLI, or REST API; select the method that fits your backend and operational controls. AWS: Uploading objects
Or skip the browser setup
ScreenshotNeo is another screenshot API. It returns screenshot output from one GET request; it is not an asserted CaptureKit-compatible S3 integration. If you want your own bucket, your backend can receive the returned bytes and upload them with the AWS method above. ScreenshotNeo’s documented call is at ScreenshotNeo documentation.

Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Troubleshooting
- You cannot find the custom-bucket option: The public CaptureKit materials cited here do not specify it. Ask CaptureKit whether its S3 upload supports a user-selected bucket and request the current endpoint reference and destination-authentication instructions.
- The AWS CLI reports an access-denied error: Check that the configured AWS identity has write permission for the target bucket and that the bucket, key, and Region are correct. AWS identifies bucket write permission as a prerequisite for uploads. AWS: Uploading objects
- The uploaded object has the wrong type or does not open as expected: Match the filename extension and content type to the actual capture format. CaptureKit advertises PNG, JPEG, WebP, and PDF output, but you must determine the format returned by your particular request.
- A later upload replaced or versioned an earlier capture: Check whether the object key is reused and whether bucket versioning is enabled. A versioning-enabled bucket retains another version when an existing key is uploaded again. AWS: Uploading objects
- Metadata is missing: Set required user-defined metadata when uploading. AWS states that changing it later requires copying the object. AWS: Working with object metadata
What to verify before deployment
- Ask CaptureKit for the current screenshot endpoint documentation covering S3 uploads, including whether a customer-owned bucket is supported.
- Confirm the destination bucket, Region, authorization method, and any required endpoint options directly with CaptureKit.
- If your backend performs the upload, confirm how your CaptureKit request returns image or PDF data, and test the full request-to-object flow in a non-production bucket.
- Set the key naming, overwrite/versioning, content-type, and metadata behavior before production use.
- Use a backend identity with appropriate write access, and keep API keys and AWS credentials out of browser code.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does CaptureKit definitely upload directly to a bucket I own?
The cited public product page advertises S3 uploads, but the reviewed public documentation does not establish support for a customer-selected bucket. Confirm this with CaptureKit before relying on it.
