Does exploration count across your WoW: Forever account?
It counts toward the account-wide Legacy Point pool, but you cannot combine partial map exploration from several characters to complete the challenge. Blizzard lists the Adventure Legacy Challenge as: “Explore the entire world map on the same character.” Completing a challenge earns one Legacy Point, according to the September 23, 2026 announcement.

In practical terms, one character must satisfy the full exploration requirement. Once earned, the point joins the shared pool for eligible characters. The challenge completion and the point’s availability therefore have different scopes: character-specific progress, account-wide currency.

Blizzard says Legacy Points are shared across a Battle.net account for non-Hardcore characters. Each eligible character can spend from that shared pool on that character’s perks, and different characters can choose different perks. Sharing the currency does not automatically give every character the same upgrades.

The announced system has three perk areas: Professions, Adventure, and Resourcefulness. Blizzard’s launch announcement says a character can spend up to 16 points in total at launch, and that all character advantages can be unlocked on a single character. Alts are encouraged as another way to experience classes and tradeskills, but are not required to benefit from the system.
How exploration fits into the wider Legacy System
Exploration is one of two Adventure challenges in Blizzard’s announced set of 65 Legacy Challenges. The other is completing the Lord Valthalak dungeon set questline. The announcement groups its challenge totals as follows:

These totals and requirements come from Blizzard’s announcement; they describe the announced system, not independently verified live behavior. Each completed challenge is stated to award one point.

When the Legacy System becomes available
Blizzard says most players will unlock the system when their first character reaches level 25. The announcement also names two alternatives: reaching 150 in a non-gathering primary tradeskill, or exploring the entire world map. Once available, the Legacy System can be opened using its shield icon or the default Y key.

What changes in Hardcore
The account-wide rule has a stated Hardcore exception. Blizzard says collections and Legacy Points work across rulesets, but Hardcore progress can flow outward to other rulesets; progress made in other rulesets does not flow back into Hardcore. So a broad statement that all characters share points needs that one-way qualification.
Shared progression also does not mean a shared social space. Blizzard describes WoW: Forever as using rulesets rather than traditional realm selection: characters can group, run dungeons, and raid with players in the same ruleset, while cross-ruleset grouping is not supported.

What this means if you are deciding whether to explore on an alt
- If you want the exploration challenge point, choose one character and complete the entire map exploration on that character.
- If another eligible character will benefit more from a perk, the point can be spent from the shared pool on that character instead.
- If you play Hardcore, account-wide progression is asymmetric: progress can transfer from Hardcore to other rulesets, but not the reverse.
