WordPress.com’s October 2, 2026 changelog announces two new ways to use AI tools with a site: the WordPress Agent can activate, update, and install plugins from chat, and a WordPress.com plugin in Cursor’s marketplace lets users manage their site from Cursor. The update also covers Reader changes, hosting logs, security releases, and smaller fixes. It covers changes dated September 15 through October 1, 2026.
What are the new AI tools for WordPress.com?
Manage plugins through the WordPress Agent
WordPress.com says users can ask the WordPress Agent to activate, update, and install plugins directly from chat. Its changelog does not specify permissions, supported plugin types, confirmation steps, or technical limits, so those details should not be assumed.
Manage a site from Cursor
The changelog says a WordPress.com plugin is now available in Cursor’s marketplace, allowing users to manage a site from that AI agent. It does not give setup instructions or explain the integration’s capabilities in detail. Although the entry’s heading also mentions Grok Bot, it provides no specifics about that integration.
What changed in the WordPress.com Reader?
Read posts now dim automatically, helping distinguish new posts from ones already read. An unread count appears beside Recent, and users can turn off this behavior in preferences. WordPress.com frames the change for people who use Reader to follow blogs, sites, and news sources.

What did WordPress.com say about security updates?
WordPress.com’s changelog names WordPress 7.1.1 and 7.1.2 as security releases and says WordPress.com sites have already been updated. That is WordPress.com’s statement; the entry does not identify the vulnerabilities or their severity.
