Before checkout, review the current plan and renewal price and check that the server’s software versions, memory, and HTTPS support meet WooCommerce’s requirements.
How to order a Bluehost VDS with WooCommerce
Bluehost’s guide describes selecting WooCommerce (WordPress) as the application during the initial VDS purchase. The available application depends on the plan meeting its minimum requirements. The flow allows one application per purchase; Bluehost says the system selects the operating system for that application. See the Bluehost VDS and WooCommerce purchase guide for the provider’s current steps.

- Open Bluehost’s VDS hosting page. Review the available plans and select Standard or High Performance.
- Configure the server. Choose a data center location and review the hardware options presented for the plan.
- Select the application. In the Software section, choose WooCommerce (WordPress). If the option is unavailable, the selected plan does not meet its minimum requirements.
- Review the remaining options. Check any support, security, or advanced options and note whether optional services incur recurring charges.
- Choose a billing term and review the order. Verify the current sign-up offer, billing period, and renewal price before confirming.
- Complete the purchase and manage provisioning. Bluehost says provisioning starts after purchase; the hosting can then be managed through the Bluehost Portal.
Bluehost’s help article, updated August 27, 2026, says: “You can install only one application per purchase; the system will automatically select the best operating system for it.” The same guide notes that prices may change: check the VDS page for the current sign-up offer and the portal’s Renewal Center for renewal pricing.
Check WooCommerce compatibility before checkout
WooCommerce’s server recommendations are version-scoped: the requirements below apply to WooCommerce 10.8 and later. Confirm the versions and settings the offered VDS will provide, and recheck the official WooCommerce server recommendations when ordering.
| Component | WooCommerce 10.8+ requirement or recommendation |
|---|---|
| WordPress | 6.9 or later |
| PHP | 8.3 or later; tested up to PHP 8.4 |
| Database | MySQL 8.0 or later, or MariaDB 10.6 or later |
| Memory | WordPress memory limit of at least 256 MB |
| Web server | Apache or Nginx recommended; WooCommerce says any server supporting PHP and MySQL can work |
| Secure connection | HTTPS support |
Some stores or extensions may also need cURL or fsockopen, SOAP, multibyte string support for non-English stores, permalink support, or particular global SQL modes. Check the requirements for the extensions and integrations you plan to use. Older PHP and database baselines may still function, but WooCommerce warns that PHP 7.4+ and MySQL 5.6+ (or MariaDB 10.4+) are end-of-life; they should not be treated as the recommended target for a new purchase.
WordPress also recommends Apache or Nginx and says running PHP applications under the account’s username rather than the server’s default shared username is more secure. See WordPress.org’s requirements.

Plan for HTTPS and store security
WooCommerce says SSL is necessary when sensitive information such as addresses and card numbers is transmitted. A hosting provider may offer a free certificate, or one may be available through Let’s Encrypt; paid certificates are another option. After SSL is configured, update the WordPress and site URLs to use https://. Follow the provider’s certificate instructions and WooCommerce’s SSL and HTTPS guidance.
Install WooCommerce after buying the VDS
If you did not select WooCommerce during the VDS purchase, you can install it through WordPress administration, provided the server is compatible. In WordPress admin, open Plugins > Add New Plugin, search for “WooCommerce,” select Install, then Activate. Activation opens the setup wizard. WooCommerce documents this process in its installation and removal guide.
WooCommerce advises keeping software current and maintaining backups and a staging environment for updates. These practices help you test changes and recover if an update causes a problem; they do not replace checking compatibility before installation.

A VDS is one way to host a store, not a WooCommerce requirement. WooCommerce’s getting-started documentation describes hosts with WordPress preinstalled, automatic installation, and manual plugin installation. Its server guidance also points people seeking a new host toward hosting partners. Compare providers based on the work and costs you will take on, rather than assuming that a one-click or preinstalled option includes ongoing site maintenance.

- Cost: Compare the current introductory offer, renewal price, and billing term.
- Resources and location: Check included CPU, memory, storage, and available data-center locations.
- Setup responsibility: Establish whether WordPress and WooCommerce are preinstalled or whether you will configure them yourself.
- Ongoing operations: Determine who handles operating-system, PHP, and database updates, backups, and recovery.
- Security and support: Check HTTPS/certificate availability and whether support or security options add recurring fees.
- Scaling: Find out how resources can be changed if the store’s needs grow.
Bluehost’s guide documents configurable location and hardware, plan tiers, billing-term selection, optional premium support, and extra IP addresses at an additional fee. It does not establish comparative value against other providers. For alternatives to a purchase-time install, see WooCommerce’s five-step getting-started guide.
