If you mean the name assigned to your Windows PC, change it in Settings > System > About. This renames the device, not the Wi-Fi network name broadcast by your router; changing that requires the router’s settings.
Rename your Windows PC
Microsoft documents the same route for Windows 11 and Windows 10: Settings > System > About > Rename this PC.

- Open Settings.
- Select System, then About.
- Select Rename this PC.
- Enter the name you want and select Next.
- Choose Restart now to finish immediately, or Restart later to apply the change after a restart. Save open work before restarting now.
When does the new name take effect?
The rename is completed when Windows restarts. If you choose Restart later, restart the PC when convenient; until then, the change is pending.

If you meant your Wi-Fi network name
The steps above change the Windows device name only. A Wi-Fi network name is set on the router, so use the router’s configuration settings or instructions instead.

Windows 10 support status
Windows 10 support ended on October 14, 2025. Microsoft says free Windows Update software updates, technical assistance, and security fixes are no longer provided after that date. Windows 10 PCs continue to work, but this support change is separate from renaming the device.

A distinct device name can make it easier to tell PCs apart and support consistent device management. Microsoft also notes that replacing a default name can obscure clues in that name; renaming alone is not meaningful overall security protection.
