No: 180 or 200 is not a safe number of Windows 11 services to disable. There is no universal service-count threshold. What matters is which services you change, your Windows edition and build, and whether Windows or an app depends on them.
Why the service count does not tell you what is safe
The phrase “between 200 or 180” could mean the number of services listed on a PC or the number someone plans to turn off. Neither interpretation establishes a safe threshold. Service availability and dependencies differ across Windows versions, editions, devices, and installed or used features.

Microsoft’s detailed service-configuration guidance is specifically for Windows IoT Enterprise. Microsoft cautions that other Windows 10 and 11 versions may not have the same services. Its recommendations therefore should not be treated as a universal checklist for consumer Windows 11 PCs.

Services support Windows functions, device hardware, networking, updates, and applications. Microsoft’s IoT Enterprise table marks many services “Don’t disable” because changing them can affect essential functionality. For example, its entries say disabling DHCP Client prevents dynamic IP address and DNS updates, disabling Device Install can cause system instability, and disabling Update Orchestrator prevents Windows Update from downloading and installing updates. These are examples from that edition-specific reference, not a complete consumer-PC checklist.

Microsoft describes essential services as supporting security, updates, expected operation, or functions integral to Windows. Its essential services and connected experiences guide identifies Windows Update as an essential service. The related support guidance explains that required service data supports these essential functions.
What to do instead, based on your goal
If you want to change diagnostic-data settings
Use Settings > Privacy & security > Diagnostics & feedback to review the available controls for optional diagnostic data, tailored experiences, and inking and typing. Some options may be restricted on a work- or organization-managed device. See Microsoft’s Diagnostics, feedback, and privacy in Windows guidance.

Microsoft’s IoT Enterprise service table classifies Connected User Experiences and Telemetry (DiagTrack) as “OK to disable” in its specific enterprise context. That is not a general recommendation for ordinary Windows 11 users. For privacy controls, start with the user-facing settings rather than changing a service based on an IoT-specific classification.
If you are troubleshooting a startup problem
Use Microsoft’s clean-boot procedure to isolate whether a service or startup item is causing the problem. In System Configuration, select Services, check Hide all Microsoft services, and then disable the remaining services systematically as the procedure directs. After identifying the cause, restore normal startup. A clean boot is a diagnostic technique, not evidence that turning off many Windows services improves performance. Follow the full Microsoft clean-boot instructions, including its restoration steps.

If you are considering one named service
Check documentation for the exact Windows edition and build, what feature the service supports, and which apps or services depend on it. Consider whether you use that feature and what would stop working if the service were disabled. Do not infer that a service is safe to turn off from its position in a list or from advice written for another Windows edition.

Before changing a service
- Identify the exact service name and your Windows edition and build.
- Confirm the service’s role and documented dependencies for that version.
- Decide whether your goal is privacy control, startup troubleshooting, or another specific issue; use the corresponding Windows control rather than a bulk-disable list.
- Change only what you can assess, and know how to restore the original setting if a feature stops working.
