First identify the failure: are you setting up an Android phone or an iPhone, and is pairing failing, a previously connected phone no longer syncing, or only one feature unavailable? The fixes differ by platform. Check the requirements below, then follow the matching troubleshooting path rather than removing a working pairing unnecessarily.

Check that your phone and PC meet Phone Link requirements
Phone Link uses different connection methods for Android and iPhone. Microsoft’s setup guide lists these minimums:
The Tool Desk
Outbyte PC Repair FREEClear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →| Phone | Windows PC | Phone and connection requirements |
|---|---|---|
| Android | Windows 10, October 2022 update or later, or Windows 11 | Android 10 or later; PC and phone on the same Wi-Fi network |
| iPhone | Windows 10, May 2019 update or later, or Windows 11 | iOS 16 or later; PC must support Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) |
These are Microsoft’s stated requirements, not a guarantee that every feature works on every device. Some supported Android phones have Link to Windows preinstalled. See Microsoft’s Phone Link requirements and setup guide for current details.
#1 Best Overall
- Please note, this device does not support E-SIM; This 4G model is compatible with all GSM networks worldwide outside of the U.S. In the US, ONLY compatible with T-Mobile and their MVNO's (Metro and Standup). It will NOT work with other CDMA carriers, and it is also not compatible with their MVNO (Visible, Xfinity Mobile, US Mobile, Cricket Wireless, etc).
- Compatibility with certain third-party devices and accessibility accessories, including some hearing aids, may vary depending on manufacturer support, Bluetooth protocols, software compatibility, and regional firmware limitations. For additional hearing aid compatibility information, please refer to Samsung’s official support documentation.

Identify which kind of failure you have
- First-time setup will not finish: use the relevant Android or iPhone setup steps below. If pairing codes do not match, use the recovery steps in the code-mismatch section.
- A phone that used to work will not reconnect: try the platform-specific reconnection steps before resetting anything else.
- The phone appears connected, but one feature fails: go to the section for that feature. Successful pairing does not mean every Phone Link feature is supported or enabled.
Fix an Android connection or sync problem
- Check the connection and account. Turn on both devices, connect them to the same trusted Wi-Fi network, and confirm Phone Link and Link to Windows are updated. Make sure both apps use the same Microsoft account.
- Temporarily turn off Battery Saver. Check both the Android phone and the PC. Power-saving settings can interfere with background activity and reconnection.
- Check Android notifications and Do Not Disturb. Allow Link to Windows notifications and turn off Do Not Disturb while testing. On Android 13, grant notification access when prompted if you want Phone Link notifications.
- Allow Phone Link to run in the background on Windows. If your Windows settings include shared experiences or account-status controls, check that the account is available there too.
- Consider network restrictions. Public Wi-Fi and some workplace networks restrict communication between devices. A VPN or firewall can also interfere. Do not bypass workplace security rules; ask the network administrator whether the connection is permitted.
If Android used to connect but no longer does, update Link to Windows, sign out and unlink the account in the phone app, then open Phone Link on the PC and choose Add new device. Restart Phone Link if it still cannot reconnect. Microsoft documents these steps in its Phone Link troubleshooting guide.
When Wi-Fi is unavailable, Link to Windows settings may offer syncing over mobile data. Treat this as an optional workaround: it uses your phone’s mobile data and may count against your plan.

Fix iPhone pairing or syncing problems
- Confirm Bluetooth is enabled on both devices. Keep the iPhone close to the PC during setup. The PC must support Bluetooth Low Energy; ordinary Bluetooth support alone does not establish BLE compatibility.
- Start pairing from Phone Link. Scan the QR code with the iPhone camera, complete the Bluetooth pairing prompts, and approve the permissions you want Phone Link to use.
- Review iPhone permissions. Check the Bluetooth sharing permissions for system notifications, notifications, messages, contacts, and call history. The available permission names and choices may depend on your iOS version and what you want to sync.
- If pairing is stuck, remove both sides and retry. Remove the PC from the iPhone’s Bluetooth devices and remove the iPhone in Windows Bluetooth settings. On the iPhone, forget the PC. Turn Bluetooth off on both devices for ten seconds, turn it back on, then start pairing again from Phone Link.
Microsoft’s setup instructions cover iPhone requirements and pairing. If your PC lacks BLE, a Bluetooth adapter is only a possible way to add compatible hardware; Microsoft does not say that an adapter will resolve every pairing issue.

After more than three unsuccessful attempts to match pairing codes, Phone Link may automatically prevent linking. Close and reopen Phone Link on the PC, then restart setup. Microsoft notes that permission prompts may appear instead of code matching on the next attempt. Follow the prompts rather than repeatedly entering codes. See Microsoft’s setup troubleshooting steps.

When pairing works but a feature does not
Check feature eligibility before repeating the whole setup. Some Phone Link experiences have narrower device, operating-system, or hardware requirements than basic pairing.
Phone screen or Android apps
Phone screen is limited to supported Android devices in select markets, with Android 10 or later and Link to Windows installed or preinstalled. The Phone screen setup guide and supported-device list explain eligibility.

Apps and multiple-app use have their own compatibility conditions. Microsoft’s Apps guidance lists Android 11 and at least 8 GB of PC RAM for multiple apps; check its Apps setup page for device-specific requirements. Some mobile apps block screen casting, so a black screen in one app can be an app restriction rather than a broken connection. Microsoft covers app-specific checks in its Apps troubleshooting guide.
Calls
Check that the phone and PC are paired over Bluetooth. Another phone-linking utility or a manufacturer app that has already paired the devices can conflict with Phone Link’s call connection. Follow Microsoft’s call troubleshooting guidance if calls alone fail.

Notifications
On Android, confirm Link to Windows has notification access and is not restricted by battery optimization. Notifications that Android treats as sensitive may be blocked from appearing in Phone Link. See Microsoft’s notification troubleshooting page.
