To clear a stuck Windows 11 print job, open Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Printers & scanners, select the correct printer, choose Open print queue, and cancel the job. If cancellation hangs, restart Print Spooler. Clear the spool files only as a later step: that removes all pending jobs, not just the one that is stuck.
Cancel the stuck job from the printer’s queue
- Open Start > Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Printers & scanners.
- Select the printer that has the stuck job, then choose Open print queue. Check the queue window’s printer name before changing anything; Windows may have separate queues for different printers. Microsoft’s queue instructions show this path.
- Right-click the stuck job and choose Cancel. Repeat for any other jobs you want removed. If the queue offers Cancel all, use it only if you intend to remove every queued job.
Give Windows a moment to process the cancellation. If the job remains in the queue or the cancellation itself is stuck, move on to the Print Spooler.

Restart Print Spooler if cancellation does not work
Print Spooler is the Windows service that manages print jobs. Restarting it is a less extensive step than deleting spool files. Microsoft notes that when the spooler fails, documents can stay stuck in the queue and the printer may become unresponsive.
Recommended Free Tools
- Press Windows key + R, type
services.msc, and press Enter. - In the Services window, find Print Spooler.
- Right-click Print Spooler and select Restart.
- Reopen the printer’s queue and check whether the stuck job has cleared. If it has not, use the spool-folder reset below.
See Microsoft Support’s Print Spooler guidance for this service restart.

Clear the spool files only if the queue is still blocked
This reset removes pending spool files, so it clears queued work beyond a single selected job. Use it only after cancellation and a service restart have failed.
- Open
services.mscand find Print Spooler. - Right-click it, choose Stop, and confirm if prompted. Leave the service stopped while deleting the files.
- In File Explorer, enter
%WINDIR%system32spoolPRINTERSin the address bar and press Enter. - Delete the files inside the
PRINTERSfolder. Do not delete the folder itself. - Return to Services, right-click Print Spooler, and choose Start. Open its properties and set Startup Type to Automatic.
Microsoft includes this sequence in its instructions for fixing printer connection and printing problems.

If the queue is empty but the printer still will not print
A cleared queue only addresses pending Windows print jobs. If printing still fails, troubleshoot the connection or printer separately rather than repeating the queue reset.

- For one stuck document, cancel that job in the correct printer’s queue.
- If cancellation hangs, restart Print Spooler.
- If jobs remain blocked, stop the service, delete the spool files, then start the service again; this removes pending queued work.
- If the queue is clear but printing still fails, focus on the printer connection, offline state, driver, or installation.
