The A18 Pro leads the A16 Bionic in the available CPU and Neural Engine benchmark results, but those figures compare specific iPhones and submitted benchmark data—not a universal speed difference between chips. Apple lists both processors with six-core CPUs and 16-core Neural Engines; the A18 Pro has a six-core GPU, compared with five GPU cores for the A16 Bionic.

How the chips differ on paper

Apple identifies the A18 Pro with iPhone 16 Pro models and the A16 Bionic with the iPhone 14 Pro generation. The A16 Bionic also appears in other Apple devices, so a chip name alone does not identify one exact device configuration. Apple’s specifications list these core counts:

GPU Six cores Five cores
Neural Engine 16 cores 16 cores

These are Apple’s listed configurations, not measurements of performance or power use. Apple’s iPhone comparison provides the device associations and specifications.

Geekbench CPU results: iPhone 16 Pro vs iPhone 14 Pro

Geekbench’s iOS CPU table, checked October 7, 2026, lists these results:

#1 Best Overall
Apple iPhone 16 Pro, 128GB, Black Titanium - Unlocked (Renewed)
  • Titanium frame combines strength and lightness, giving the iPhone 16 Pro a premium feel while reducing weight for prolonged daily use. The polished edges and textured back enhance grip and handling, making it easier to use during long calls, gaming sessions, or when capturing photos and videos on the move.
Phone and chip Geekbench 7 CPU score
iPhone 16 Pro with A18 Pro 2,898
iPhone 14 Pro with A16 Bionic 2,368

The iPhone 16 Pro result is about 22% higher in this table. Geekbench says that a score twice as high indicates twice the performance. These are device scores, not a promise that every app or task will run 22% faster. The table aggregates submitted results and changes as results accrue. Geekbench 7 iOS CPU results

Geekbench AI results: Neural Engine tests

Geekbench AI’s Core ML Neural Engine table, checked October 7, 2026, reports the following scores. The figures are specific to these test configurations and are not direct measurements of every on-device AI feature.

PassMark measure A18 Pro A16 Bionic
CPU Mark 12,803 10,881
Single Thread Rating 4,075 3,975

PassMark says these values are tabulated from 1,978 combined submitted PerformanceTest benchmarks and updated daily. They are a second database’s submitted-result comparison, not a controlled test of matched devices. Do not combine PassMark and Geekbench scores into one percentage: the suites use different scoring systems. PassMark’s A18 Pro and A16 Bionic comparison

What the benchmarks can—and cannot—tell you

Across the cited CPU and AI tables, the A18 Pro-equipped iPhone 16 Pro scores higher than the A16 Bionic-equipped iPhone 14 Pro. That supports a benchmark lead in these results; it does not establish a fixed performance gain in ordinary use.

  • Scores are tied to devices and benchmark suites, and can vary with configuration, software, and accumulated submissions.
  • The GPU core counts show a specification difference, but the available results here do not establish gaming performance.
  • CPU scores do not establish battery life, heat, sustained performance, or power efficiency.
  • AI benchmark scores do not predict the speed or quality of every AI feature or app.

Is the A18 Pro a reason to replace an A16 Bionic phone?

Not on benchmark scores alone. These results show that the newer chip leads in the listed tests, but deciding whether to replace a phone also depends on its display, cameras, battery condition, storage, software support, and current price. Those whole-phone factors are not measured by the processor comparisons above.
